A state senator threatening to kill state troopers. Crazy.

Oregon Republican senator threatens state troopers, warns them to ‘come heavily armed’

Tensions were already smoldering in the Oregon Senate Wednesday, when Sen. Brian Boquist, R-Dallas, poured gasoline on the situation, suggesting he would shoot and potentially kill any state trooper sent to haul him unwillingly back to the Capitol.

“Send bachelors and come heavily armed. I’m not going to be a political prisoner in the state of Oregon. It’s just that simple.”

Big city politics forcing major lifestyle changes on rural Oregonians, and the rural lands hate that, I dont blame them one bit walking out to deny a vote. Those who walked did that so that they are faithful to the people who elected them.
By not doing the job they are paid to do? The do get paid, correct?

They are getting paid for not turning up to work?

Is that how it happens in America? Elected officials can just not work and still get paid?

What happened to personal responsibility?

Its politics and if they can deny the vote, they can win for the moment. In today's politics, the sides are completely at odds one with the other party, there is no collusion between them. So you bet they are working to prevent a vote because their constituents do not want cap and trade.
Because the people of rural Oregon are known to be massive producers of pollutant emissions, and would suffer mightily if such a policy would be implemented.

Gee, I really wonder what kind of "constituents" these politicians are representing.

So because their constituents don't want cap and trade, they should sabotage the democratic system they were elected to be part of?

State legislators have run away before in Texas and elsewhere, and the Rangers and Boy Scouts and the Mickey Mouse clubbers were sent after them, blah blah blah.

Threatening to murder LEO in the performance of their duties is a terroristic threat.

The LEO should go 'Earp' him and haul him into the judge on terrorism charges.

This thread is about an elected official threatening to kill state troopers. What do you think about that?

Their constituents are in the minority. We have a democracy. They can show up and vote.

I think we are at peak Republican. When you do not get what you want, do not take part in the process, then demand everyone follow the process and rules when you're in power. Why do you people hate democracy? These antics show they do not believe in anyone being in power but themselves.

Wow. Who knew that elected officials were political prisoners?
If arrested in another state for having committed no crime and then forcibly taken to another location against their will...yes, that might be analogous to what happens to prisoners. And there is no question that this action, if it were to come to pass, would be about political differences of opinion rather than any crime.

I have seen this kind of thing done by the other party many times.

No it wouldn't be about political differences of opinion. They could denounce it as Satanic and vote against it. WHat they cannot do is be purposely absent to prevent a vote from taking place, and the Oregon Senate is given the power in the Oregon Constitution to compel attendance to ensure a quorum.

Context is so necessary

Sen. Chuck Riley, D-Hillsboro, sits at his desk in Oregon state Senate chamber in Salem on Thursday. Gov. Kate Brown dispatched the state police to find the 11 Republican senators who left the Capitol, denying Democrats the quorum necessary to conduct business.

The Democrats are trying to pass a bill that the Republicans want no part of. So they held a walkout.

So the Democratic Governor calls up the State Police to compel them to attend.

There is no balance on either side.

Is this how the Democrats reach across the aisle?
