Trump administration argues in court that detained migrant children don't need toothbrushes or soap and they can sleep on concrete floors

The Trump administration went to court this week to argue that migrant children detained at the United States-Mexico border do not require basic hygiene products like soap and toothbrushes in order to be in held in "safe and sanitary" conditions. Trump's team also argued that requiring minors to sleep on cold concrete floors in crowded cells with low temperatures similarly fulfilled that requirement.

Arguing in a 9th district San Francisco court about the conditions that they must hold migrant children in, the administration said that they did not violate a precedent set by a landmark 1985 class action lawsuit which established guidelines for the way minors held in federal immigration detention must be treated. ........

"Are you arguing seriously that you do not read the agreement as requiring you to do anything other than what I just described: cold all night long, lights on all night long, sleeping on concrete and you've got an aluminum foil blanket?" U.S. Circuit Judge William Fletcher asked Fabian. "I find that inconceivable that the government would say that that is safe and sanitary."

The three Federal judges seemed shocked at the administration's argument.

Denying basic needs and making the children sleep on a concrete floor with an aluminum blanket is child abuse, as I see it.

There have been 7 deaths, and even John Sanders, the acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection said that another 4.6 billion was needed to prevent more deaths.

I find this to be evil.

I think there version of Matthew just has Jesus saying 'suffer little children' they stop reading there and take it as a command.

Since certain members of Congress have refused to fund the purchase of such items (and much more), the administration and border patrol have little alternative but to try to make do.

The problem could be solved in short order, but that would eliminate a potentially good campaign issue. Or so it is thought by opponents of the President.

Make no mistake. This is being done intentionally in the hopes that it would act as a deterrent.

To intentionally deprive children in state custody of basic sanitation needs because it works to the presidents political advantage is child abuse and it will be what defines this administration in the eyes of future generations.

Those who find it Evil, should pay for the supplies themselves.
No, those who forcibly detained the children away from their parents and therefore took on their care need to pay for the supplies.

The actions taken by the Trump administration toward immigrant children will go down in history as a period of shame. It is unChristian, unkind and flat evil.

There is so much Evil in the world, to focus purely on a singular political administration is all ego.

The 'presumably' parents brought the kids, through crime ridden areas of rape and murder. They initiated the problem. If that's the culture they bring they should go back and sort out their own political systems.

If your employee was doing evil on your dime, would you not care?

Trump is my employee. He is doing evil. He is doing it on my dime.
Try to remember that he is not your employee ALONE. And your opinion about who is evil and who is not evil may not be shared by other voters. That's why we have elections.

Right.....they should stay and be raped, killed, let their daughters be turned into prostitutes and their sons into gang bangers.

IMHO, your view is heartless. There is no excuse to separate (steal) children from their parents and then mistreat them.

Isa 58:7

Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

Mat 25:37
“Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink?
Mat 25:38
‘And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You?
Mat 25:39
‘When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’
Mat 25:40
“The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’

Mistreating children is not loving thy neighbor or doing unto others what you would have done to you.

We sure have the right to protest that employee and complain about performance.

We can call our congressmen and senators and make our view clear. We can tell them we will not vote for those who support such policy as this administration has shown to immigrant children.

Oh heck yes. Cruelty isn't just an effect of the policy, cruelty is the policy.
