It's just getting overwhelming. There are some I'll never get rid of but many i have gotten, read and never picked up again. Any suggestions? Should I put them out at Church with a 'free' tag on them?

If they're Catholic/Catholic appropriate, maybe try donating them to a local Catholic high school, if you've got one? Before it burned in one of the recent fires :(, the local Catholic high school in my home area of Northern California used to have annual "rummage sales", largely consisting of books and other donated items (small appliances, etc.), which helped subsidize some of that year's school activities. I remember I bought a copy of Eusebius' Church History at one for $1. Pretty nice find. (Except I lost it in my recent move; d'oh!)

They are ALL Catholic. I thought I might call the parish and ask if they'd be interested.

Vincent de Paul - Wikipedia says:

"Vincent de Paul CM (24 April 1581 – 27 September 1660) was a French Catholic priest who dedicated himself to serving the poor. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. He was canonized in 1737."

So too late for me, but he does have a very wonderful Society named after him, I'll give him that! :)

Sorry. No. But I'm sure you are not surprised. ;)

As they say, it never hurts to ask. Thank you for offering. I hope someone can take you up on them. I wouldn't want to see religious books go unread.

Some books should be burned, or composted. Best use for them. A heretical book has no rights.

Some can be donated to Goodwill. You can claim a reasonable small amount for the value of the books which might be useful at tax time.

Some you should never let anybody ever pry out of your hands for any reason.

There are a few books which should go to a used bookstore. Their formula is generally that they will offer a quarter of what they think they could sell a book for. If the book is still in print they can sell it for half price, so you would get 1/8 of the list price. For an out of print book the pricing is more subjective so the amount they would offer would depend. They have to consider carefully whether they would ever be able to sell the book. And they might already have a dozen copies so another would do no real good. Or the book might be one they know they can sell that afternoon, and they can offer a nice price. Overall you do not get rich selling your books to one of these guys. But at least it has a decent chance getting to someone else who wants it.

A parish SHOULD have a library. It should be chock full of solid books and heavy duty reference works.

Anybody looking for anything in particular? I'll see if I have it and willing to part with it.
A rare little paperback book by Hubert Jedin concerning the closure of the council of Trent. For that matter anything by Jedin except for the two volume history of the council of Trent (which I already have).

I'm not looking for profit. Just good homes. I do have books about the Council of Trent but will have to look through them. I doubt I have what you are looking for. Many of these books were bought during the time I was in the process of converting and after I was accepted into the Church. Nothing spectacular I am sure. I have many over 100 years old but tend to keep them.

Do you have anything patristic from before 451 AD? Asking for a friend... :D
Origen? Of the patristics I'd be able to part with. The rest you are not prying out of my greedy fingers. BUT you could come and be a house guest and read to your heart's content.

When my husband died, I gave his clothes to people who wanted them and the rest to the Salvation Army. Emotionally, I wanted to hang on to them--but, then I realized they would be a help to others, so I gave them away.

Do you have anything from Tozer or C.S. Lewis?
Thanks for asking gennypearl. Unfortunately, I am keeping CS Lewis along with Fulton Sheen. If you can think of anything else, let me know!:)
