A look at most "Catholic" universities will show they are no longer very Catholic. It almost seems that once something becomes large, it's easier for the liberal, modernism to creep in and take over.

It just goes that way. Possibly because there just aren't that many really "orthodox" people in any one group to hold the line, and many are along for the ride.

I think that's why I now drive past two parishes to get to one small one - it's someplace you can have an impact and hold the line at least a little.

We would also need a great deal more pan-Orthodox administrative unity. The Greeks have Holy Cross/Hellenic College, but they, like usual, emphasize being Greek at the expense of being Orthodox. We have too much of this "it's not my jurisdiction so it doesn't exist" mentality. Abbot Tryphon's monastery is surrounded by almost a dozen parishes, but only the ROCOR and Oriental Orthodox send their people there. The Greeks send theirs to St Anthony's in Arizona and almost half the OCA sends theirs to St John's in Manton.

The problem I have with an Orthodox College at this time is the fact that too many Evangelical converts don't leave their baggage at the door. Too many still think the earth is only 6,000 years old "because Genesis says so" and we don't need that kind of narrow-minded learning. The Orthodox did not shun academia like that. If it weren't for the Orthodox there would never have been a Renaissance. I don't think we're ready for an Orthodox college until the Orthodox mindset has completely sunk into our collective psyche. We're too young.

As for HCHC, they are in DEEP financial trouble and could lose its accreditation

The school is running a deficit and has since 2011, the letter said. This year it has projected a $1.6 million cash-flow gap, the letter said. It said the school claims to have a strategy to eliminate the deficit but “there is no detailed and credible plan to do so currently available.”

For Sure! You can't imagine how many Catholics don't even know what Orthodoxy is - much less how it can help one think and be.

Preferably on the west coast or midwest.

Honestly, if I had the money I would just ask for the blessing from The Bishops / Patriarchs to start one.

The only millionaire Orthodox are typically Greeks and their own college, HCHC, is likely going to lose its accreditation. There's a few random celebrities here and there like Tom Hanks or Troy Palumalu, but good luck get them behind it.
