Actually, 10 Cities Are Reportedly Waiting For Trump Campaign To Pay $841,000 In Rally Bills

Officials in El Paso complained last week that they were still waiting for President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign to pay up for expenses related to providing extra police, fire department and other services for a rally months ago. Now it turns out there are nine more cities across the country that haven’t received a dime from the campaign for similar charges, according to The Center for Public Integrity......

The Trump campaign owes a total of $841,219 to cities from Burlington, Vermont, to Green Bay and Eau Claire in Wisconsin, Mesa, Arizona, and Spokane, Washington, according to invoices. The largest bill — $470,000 — was for El Paso for a February rally, including $381,000 for extra police and $61,000 for fire department services. Erie, Pennsylvania; Billings, Montana; and Tucson, Arizona, are also still waiting for payment.

How unethical.

This should not come as a surprise. This is typical Donald Trump business practice.

Oh dear, another reason to pile on Trump. It never ends does it? I don't think it's going to. The attacks are going to just increase as the campaign goes on.

A lot of presidential candidates don't pay for their security bills. Obama didn't, but it wasn't a big deal for him. These cities didn't have a contract requiring payment. The secret service never agreed to pay that I can see. It's just more pile on Trump news.

How about actually discussing the content of the reports rather than trotting out the "poor oppressed Trump" trope?

Have you got a citation for this?

Golly, one wonders why those cities are trying to get the money they're owed if Trump doesn't "actually owe" it to them. I guess they all just hate Trump, right?

These seem to be more "suggested reimbursements" of police department expense than an actual official invoice. Other campaign committees seem to vary greatly in choosing to pay or not pay them. From the public integrity site, Why the Trump campaign won’t pay police bills – Center for Public Integrity :

Must Trump pay?

That depends on who you ask. The cities are adamant Trump should pay up. But in many of these cases, there are no signed contracts between the municipal governments and the Trump campaign. The cities dispatched police officers to secure Trump’s events because they believe public safety required it — and the U.S. Secret Service asked for it.

Unlike the federal government, cities actually can run out of money. Getting paid to provide a municipal service is called being fiscally responsible.

There’s probably a tad of difference between ONE example of a dispute between Obama’s Secret Service and a city’s invoice...and a LIFETIME of refusing to pay for the services provided...!
