Who said it was supposed to be a utopia? There is no utopia in this life.
By context, you (should) know what the person means. America is
marketed as a place that caters to the refugee and oppressed of the world, giving them a safe haven for freedom and opportunity. That is utopia for most people; people don't need their hands held, they need direction and resources. America promises that, and a dream that you can fashion in your own image.
That is why many immigrants 1) get stuck in the States after realizing what they must do to attain this dream, 2) get stuck in the states after realizing the dream doesn't apply to them, 3) get stuck because the dream
does work, but mainly for their progeny, or 4) leave the States, and return back to their home country, or another nation.
America was "built" over a long period of time, by all sorts of people, from all sorts of places, and living in all sorts of circumstances. Your caricature of it being "built" by the "wealthy" is just that - a caricature. History isn't this nice, neat thing that can accurately be summed up in silly slogan sentences.
A caricature would be describing America as being built over a long period of time by all sorts of people from all sorts of places and living conditions. We know the history of America:
- many of our great-grandfathers and great-great patriarchs used majority African slaves and Continental Natives to build the infrastructure of America. That is why it is failing now - forced slavery is illegal, and in a corporate society where no forced labor slaves exist, it is less costly to maintain something that isn't broken.
- America was founded in 1776 - only 243 years of age - hardly a baby in terms of history, and in terms of an empire. But, Columbians still had African and Native slaves as if they were owed them centuries before America existed. (by religious and economic justification.) Heck, America even went to Japanese internment.
- The Columbians committed a near genocide of continental Natives in order to "manifest destiny" - a declaration of entitlement to lands for conquer.
- Americans, even after being compelled to end slavery on paper, still tried to exploit, swindle and trap free men back into slavery. This is now accomplished by the PIC
We aren't even talking about what they
did to those slaves, and those natives murdered - just because of a misplaced superiority complex, and an ideological justification for their spiritual disdain of African and Native people.
If the church is the body of Christ on earth , who would Jesus vote for ?
I suppose he would vote for himself since he said he had all authority on heaven and earth.
Maybe the person meant this:
I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? - Luke 18:8
If you love the world, you hate the Redeemer, because
this world, especially, is a shadow of the thing that He has for us. We worship this place, we are lost. We like this plane of existence, we are blind. With the murder, rapes, slavery, genocide, lies, sexualizing of children... choosing to love or even like this plane of existence categorically means you have to ignore all of the
negativity stuff we as humans are supposed to fight against.
