Because it is the truth & revelation of God to mankind, to show us how to have a right relationship to our Creator through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Book of Acts 17:16-25 Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him as he saw that the city was full of idols. So he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews & the devout persons, and in the marketplace every day with those who happened to be there.
18Some of the Epicurean & Stoic philosophers also conversed with him. And some said, “What does this babbler wish to say?” Others said, “He seems to be a preacher of foreign divinities”—because he was preaching Jesus & the resurrection.
19And they took him & brought him to the Areopagus, saying, “May we know what this new teaching is that you are presenting? For you bring some strange things to our ears. We wish to know therefore what these things mean.” Now all the Athenians & the foreigners who lived there would spend their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new.
22So Paul, standing in the midst of the Areopagus, said: “Men of Athens, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along & observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: ‘To the unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.
24The God who made the world & everything in it, being Lord of heaven & earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all mankind life & breath & everything.
26And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods & the boundaries of their habitation, that they should seek God & perhaps feel their way toward Him & find Him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for:
“‘In Him we live & move & have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed His offspring.’
29Being then God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the Divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art & imagination of man. The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent,
31because He has fixed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by a Man whom He has appointed & of this He has given assurance to all by raising Him from the dead.”
I Corinthians 2:1ff When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ & Him crucified. I came to you in weakness & fear & with much trembling.
4My message & my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
6Among the mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom—but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of the mysterious and hidden wisdom of God, which He destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it. For if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9Rather, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.” But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit.
10The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of man except his own spirit within him? So too, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us
.
13And this is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him & he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned...But we have the mind of Christ.
I Cor 1:18-25 For the message of the CROSS is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”
20Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not know Him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.
22Jews demand signs & Greeks search for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews & foolishness to Gentiles, but to those who are called, both Jews & Gentiles, Christ the power of God & the wisdom of God.
25For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom & the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
Second Peter 3:15,16 And remember, our Lord’s patience gives people time to be saved. This is what our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave him—He writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant & unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Hebrews 4:12,13 For the word of God is living & active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing of soul & spirit, joints & marrow. It judges the thoughts & intentions of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight; everything is uncovered & exposed before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
Psalm 10:4 In his pride the wicked man does not seek Him; in all his schemes there is no God.
Psalm 53:1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God."
Romans 1:16-25 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first & also to the Gentile. For IN IT the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”
18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness & unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it within them.
20For His invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power & divine nature, have been CLEARLY PERCEIVED, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking & their foolish hearts were darkened.
22Claiming to be wise, they became fools & exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man & birds & animals & creeping things.
24Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie & worshiped & served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
Romans 10:1-13 Brothers, my heart’s desire & prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, & seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
4For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them.
6But the righteousness based on faith says, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’” (that is, to bring Christ down) or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
8But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth & in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim);
9because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord & believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes & is justified & with the mouth one confesses & is saved.
11For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew & Gentile; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing His riches on all who call on Him. For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
