Let's say you have a dramatic experience of a divine loving spiritual presence. There is no reason to assume that you experienced Bible-God as opposed to Shiva or your spirit guide. Even if you have a vision of Jesus you should consider the possibility that you imposed your Christian expectations and saw Jesus where a Hindu might have seen Krishna.

It seems to me that spiritual experiences only move you from atheist to theist, but belief in the Bible is necessary to move you from theist to Christian.

So, why are you a Bible-believer? To a non-believer like me, the Bible is unremarkable. Yet Christians speaking of "getting into the Word" and so forth.

The main thing for me was the Big Bang, there had to be a reason for it and why it happened. The answer was the bible. Evolutionists have no idea why the Big bang happened, ultimately Evolution didn't have the answers that I was looking for about life.

Evolution has nothing to do with the Big Bang. Evolution explains the diversity of life and the Big Bang explains the origins on the Universe. Science does not yet know the answer for why the Big Bang happened and it may never find out but that does not necessitate the specifics of the Bible in any way.

I’m not really a “bible believer” as I’ve never believed that the Bible was inerrant. I’ve known about the edits ,additions and deletions in the Bible since I was about 10 years old. And then there’s the acceptance of toxic abusive behaviors like slavery and misogyny . These weren’t acceptable just because they’re toxic and abusive. My church doesn’t treat these behaviors as acceptable otherwise I’d have trouble with my faith. I’m also scientifically literate so I treat some stories as allegorical or as fables not as histories

I'm not a bible believer first, I am given the gift of belief from God almighty, then after this I believe the Bible because Gods son quoited the old testament and he is in the second.

As one would expect. The Bible is essentially worthless without having the Holy Spirit to guide understanding. It is indeed "just a book" without it. It is only the "Living Word" for those who have the key to unlock it.

And you won't find God from reading a book as a dead person.

It will go like this:
1. Discover God in a spiritual sense
2. Understand the Bible

The vast majority of early Christians were illiterate and never read any scripture at all - and they didn't need to.

On your first point my experience has been that He identifies Himself so there is no confusion.
Second point, If you have the kind of encounter I have, there is no imposing anything, it is a totally 'other' experience.
Jesus appeared to me when I was about 8, I was already a God believer but not yet born again and committed.
Last point, without the Spirit interpreting the words - the bible will make no sense. You have to be hearing from the Holy Spirit to understand what it means. He inspired it - He reveals it.
I am a bible believer because it has proved to be a robust source of truth in real life.
I majored in Phenomenology of Religion and ventured for a time into Eastern thought before returning to the faith of my youth and being rebuilt as an individual - that journey took 7 years.

That's the problem for me, I don't believe that theirs not an answer for the beginning of life.

It is anything but unremarkable...everything about it is remarkable...if you were being completely honest you would admit it.

But, to answer your question, when I read the Bible I am spiritually nourished, which,as a few here have pointed out,is because I have the Holy Spirit.

Hi there,

At beginning, I couldn't open the bible or read it. I thought it was judging me all the time and it just scared me.

Then, overtime, I started reading proverbs (it was the only book I could read at the time) and my life was such a mess. The book of proverbs was the first time I had heard anything so wise. So it was wisdom that drew me in to read it. And once I heard wisdom, I wanted to know more.

It's the greatest story ever told. It's one of a kind. The history is incredible. From Hebrew culture & poetry, to Greek to English. The knowledge, the wisdom and above all understanding what love is, truly changed my entire life.

It is the Gospel in which my faith lies; I believe one place the Lord teaches us theology & His message is in John 14:15-18. The Lord says the Law & Prophets hang on His 2 great commands to love God & neighbor ( Matthew 22:36-40). The Lord says how we are to treat each other ( the golden rule) is the Law & Prophets (Matthew 7:12, Matthew 7:1-12 etc.). St. Luke reports that the Lord explained the scriptures to the Apostles regarding all that was written of Him in the Law, Prophets, & Psalms in Luke 24:44-49.

So the Lord explained what was written of Him in the Old Testament as His New Testament was being written.

St. Maximos the Confessor (7th c.) said, “The Law of the Old Testament through practical philosophy cleanses human nature of all defilement. The law of the New Testament, through initiation into the mysteries of contemplation, raises the intellect by means of spiritual knowledge from the sight of material things to the vision of spiritual realities.”

Why? No credit I can take...

Romans 8:29-30 KJV
[29] For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. [30] Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
