The big thing that emerged from this is Mexico agreed to crack down on the organizers and funders of the caravans, and to give up names of known organizers based in the U.S.

I have a hunch Trump is planning to make some theater around arresting several charity organizers in the U.S. for "human trafficking"

I don't recall seeing anything about that -- Mexico is going to go after the smugglers and human traffickers, but I didn't see anything about the funders of the caravans...

Of course.

Interesting...

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...9c411dc4312_story.html?utm_term=.91e08c4dfc86

Mexico did not commit to any specific reduction of migrants, and it did not accept the top U.S. demand: that Mexico force Central Americans to apply for asylum in Mexico instead of the United States. The two countries also agreed to help build “a more prosperous and secure Central America to address the underlying causes of migration.”

That last provision, which got little attention, could be the most significant. Few people want to leave their homes. Central Americans are coming north because poverty and crime have made life unbearable. In another fit of pique two months ago, Mr. Trump took the wildly counterproductive step of cutting off aid to El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. A recommitment to help those countries would be the single most useful measure the administration could take.

Makes sense.... but that involves foreign aid that Donald's base will never support.

It's amazing what happens when a President doesn't get walked on.

He backs down and agrees to let them do the things they'd already promised to do?

Canada had that problem a little over 200 years ago. They didn't listen to reason so we had to shoot them. It took a couple of years but they finally got the message and we haven't had that problem since.;)
Was that before or after the white House went poof?

I’m still surprised he’s not implementing everify. That might actually have an effect. The cynical side of me says he doesn’t want to solve the problem, but to exploit it politically. Hence he won’t do anything that would actually reduce immigration.

In a roundabout way, hopefully.

With the money the US has agreed to invest in Central America in order to solve their problems and keep them from coming here in the first place, even if Mexico pays for the wall, the US will still end up losing money.

...besides, won't this deal make a wall unnecessary?

Yeah, I saw your NYT link where it said "things Mexico largely already agreed to" meaning there's more, and they know there's more, but articles for the "gotcha" people still have to be written. Stopped reading when it called him Mr. Trump and not President Trump. Imagine them disrespecting President Obama like that. LOL

But that's kind of a racist thing to say right?
I mean, I VERY VERY much doubt you were trying to be racist. I'd wager after I say this you will argue that it is not racist.

But let's take a second here:

1) You are ascribing two incredibly negative character attributes to a group of people of a certain race.
2) You SPECIFICALLY create a link between their "DNA" (hence the connection to race) and violence and crime.

In lieu of calling you racist though I would WAAAY rather ask you first to, perhaps, clarify your thought for me to make sure I am understanding it okay. I don't want to make presumptions.

Sorry, I meant the comment for all of Latin America, not just Central America.

How long have they been resisting?
Is there a time limit? Does the resistance have to be a certain length of time before it can be capitulation?

Hopefully, but it still won't stop Mexicans themselves from crossing illegally.

Ah, the NYT at its best. An unnamed source from a secret meeting.

The media’s equivalent of Colonel Mustard in the Library with a candlestick.

Oh I'm not at all surprised Donald hasn't implemented e-verify. During Donald's federal shutdown it expired. Studies have shown that it reduces the number of illegal immigrants in states that have mandated use of it for all employers, deters illegal immigration to the US in general. Donald, unsurprisingly: Trump seeks cuts to E-Verify

Donald's golf properties have been investigated by the FBI for hiring undocumented immigrants. Undocumented immigrants have talked about serving Donald personally.

To boot, some Republicans also have pushed for an increase in the number of visas given out to migrant workers for cheaper labor.

I think you're spot on that he's not at all interested in actually reducing illegal immigration. For Donald, it's all about political theater for his base. He wants to get them to keep tuning in to the next 'episode.'
