We'll have to see what happens before we declare victory. They should be able to close their southern border rather quickly. The map shows it is quite a bit shorter than ours. There is also a 'choke point' to the west of the actual border that could be a more effective stopping point.

I agree but there may be areas where it isn't so easy because of the terrain and I believe there is a river as well. I'm not sure that they have the manpower and/or the technology without our help.

I sincerely pray for those people and their families who are struggling to find a way for their families to live in such a wicked world, where no one wants to help them, or even cares what happens to them. It makes me think of Christ every time I see them; and his words, what you did to the least of my brethren you did unto me.

Given the kick back that the president was getting from both democrats and republicans on the Mexican tariffs, I suspect that both parties caved a little.
This is one way they negotiated.

However, as part of that deal, it appears the U.S. did not get Mexico to agree to a "safe third country" agreement where asylum seekers would be granted asylum in Mexico and unable to claim asylum in the U.S. Instead, the administration says it will expand its policy of deporting asylum seekers to Mexico to await adjudication of their cases. Mexico will accept those people and offer them services like health care and education.

Mexico agreed to this if the US agreed to speed up the asylum court cases.

Some years ago I listened to a United Nations refugee official concerning the state of mind of the refugees. He said in essence that they have come to the realization that are dead in a matter of days or weeks if they stay where they are. The threat may be starvation or disease or slavery or violent persecution. Realizing this, they are willing to take the most desperate chances to save them selves and their families. "When you are dead it doesn't matter."

As a parent and grandparent I can see that these parents must be desperate to get their children to safety, even if it means sending the children to family or friends in the US. It's got to be so hard and it's heartbreaking for all of them.

Sounds like the next step would be annexation of Mexico!?

Won’t that be fun?

No, the last thing we want is Mexico to be part of the US. Part of the problem is the rights imposed in our laws. To stop refugees, we need a country that doesn't have the press looking over them demanding that people be treated humanely.

The US isn't alone in this. Europe has taken somewhat of the same approach, pressuring countries like Turkey and Libya to stop the flow.

I agree, however, that looking at the borders it should be a lot easier for Mexico than the US. But we need to find a way to improve conditions in places like Honduras. I'm aware that this is a hard problem.

What are you seeing as possible fallouts?

Reduced trust in US agreements.
A move towards excluding the US in trade negotiations.
Other countries being willing to flex their economic muscle in areas that the US can't counter

Not to mention the likelihood of worsening the humanitarian crises in south America.

The violent tyranny and crime seen in those countries seems to be part of their DNA, for what's it's worth.
But that's kind of a racist thing to say right?
I mean, I VERY VERY much doubt you were trying to be racist. I'd wager after I say this you will argue that it is not racist.

But let's take a second here:

1) You are ascribing two incredibly negative character attributes to a group of people of a certain race.
2) You SPECIFICALLY create a link between their "DNA" (hence the connection to race) and violence and crime.

In lieu of calling you racist though I would WAAAY rather ask you first to, perhaps, clarify your thought for me to make sure I am understanding it okay. I don't want to make presumptions.
