One thing I would clarify and that is we "choose," not because we love God, as if our choosing is of our own merit. If we still have a fallen nature, we can still have warm fuzzies about God and Jesus, but our nature when we are weak WILL choose to appease the flesh. Many in churches around the world are in this sinking ship without the power of the Spirit in them. We must be born again of the Spirit, and it is all God's doing. He puts a new nature in us, that easily and naturally chooses righteousness. It is not our merit at all; it is not like we even want to choose to sin. It is not in our nature.

But now is the question, how can someone be in church and NOT be born again? It is not a position like some reason, but is an actual state of being. Peter tells us how.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

God knows our heart. Are we repenting superficially so we can have a ticket to heaven and miss hell? That is not true repentance, and God doesn't bite. We must repent of the whole sin nature. In other words, we must desire to please God and have Him scrub us completely clean, for the purpose of NEVER getting dirty again. When you truly mean it, something awesome happens. Jesus fills you with the Holy Spirit from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet and you feel it happening. Overnight all my carnal desires I had been wrestling with were GONE! And now all the scriptures that others hate like those written by John, my life is confirming. If anyone needs help, or would like my testimony, PM me.
We choose because we love him ..but because he has made us new.. Not that old thing that desired sin but this new creation that desires righteousness.
Hope we agree on the many nuances of all that lol without splitting the hairs into ambiguity :D.

Just on the question on how they cam be in a church but not born again ..not that new creation...?
Pretty much the same way they can be in wallmart building ir a kfc building...
Church is an assembly of believers..

A rock concert is an assembly of the rock artists fans... But not all present neccacarily even like that artist.. They just like the show.

I think more than anyone else, you believe like I do. You understand the scriptures. I just want to always give credit where credit is due. The Spirit. And in this case my only claim to fame was that I truly wanted to be scrubbed clean and never get dirty again. I couldn't do it myself. Jesus knew my heart and from there did it all, and the Holy Spirit is the only thing preventing me from sinning again. I feel Him in me changing my desires still, though the major hurdle was changed on Feb. 9, 1977 around 8:00 pm. The difference between one day over the next was night and day. I also want to thank you for your support. Do you know that on another forum site I was on, I presented the same scriptures and they were so carnally minded they called me a heretic? Christians! Jesus said the world would hate us, well the world is right here inside the Church! Keep up the good work.

No. Jesus is the one that says we are no longer sinners, but sons (and daughters) of God and will live forever. The Spirit given to us is the means by which we heal the sick, cast out devils and see miracles. Since I was born again of the Spirit 100% of my prayers are answered. (And not with a "No" as false teachers claim). And if it is "wait" He always says how long to the day!

You share that 100% of your prayers are answered, and not with a "no" ...

Is that because you always pray in tongues?

Just curious ... thanks :)

No, because when I talk to God I always thank Him for every good thing I see, and just praise Him. I never pray my will for things for myself. But when something happens that I need something, He speaks to me and tells me what HIS WILL is for me, I pray HIS WORDS, and it comes to pass.

Here's an example.

I remember once when I was traveling alone between Illinois and Arizona and had been having car trouble off and on for months, a strange grinding noise, but my mechanic could never find it as it never happened when he test drove my van. I was going uphill 30 miles outside Oklahoma City, on Interstate 40, and all of a sudden there was that grinding sound coming from the underneath of my vehicle, louder than ever! I could feel the vibrations with my feet. Instantly, God whispered to pray John 15:7. "If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you may ask what you will and it will be done for you." Ask for a "Ford dealership." So I prayed, Lord I am abiding in You, and Your words do abide in me so I ask for a Ford dealership right now! Just after I crested the hill, there was an off ramp, and a small Ford dealership at the bottom of it, out in the middle of nowhere.

1 John 5:14-15 tells us that God only hears prayers that are His will, and always answers prayers that are His will, so why pray your own will? I just wait, and listen. He knows what I need better than I do. Some people think He says no, but they just pray amiss - their own carnal will - and He just doesn't listen to them. Especially, if they are not abiding in Him.

Jeremiah 11:11
Therefore thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will surely bring calamity on them which they will not be able to escape; and though they cry out to Me, I will not listen to them.

I realized this prayer lesson the first Sunday after being filled with the Spirit the past Wednesday night. At church we had prayer circles with the people around us in the pews ahead or behind, not more than five. We would first share our needs and then whoever felt lead to pray for one of them prayed, and then the next, and next till all prayed and were prayed for. I waited until the very end and heard God tell me what I should pray for the last person, and I prayed His words verbatim. They came to me the next week and told me God answered my prayer. They were so excited. So I did that every week from then on. So many times I can't count. Over and over the following week the person I prayed for with God's words came to me and told me what happened, that what I prayed came to pass. Some were prophecy, but I just said what I heard. "My sheep hear My voice, and follow Me."

A person born again of the Spirit has a super-sensitized conscience, and they know it is easy to live according to their new nature, that loves what God loves, and hates what God hates. It is the opposite of the old nature. They hate sin, so it is easy to not do what you hate.
The claim of a "new" nature that replaces the old nature (the flesh) is unbiblical, unless you can support the idea with scripture. Something that uses the term "new nature".

I want you to read Romans 7 in context this time. The longest context would be from chapter one, but the shortest context is Romans 7:7 to Romans 8:9. Even though Paul is talking in first person in Romans 7, he is talking about someone under the law. Throughout previous chapters he is teaching us that in Jesus we are no longer under the law, and in Romans 6, that we are dead to sin. Well, sin is the whole reason for the law in the first place. Galatians 3 tells us that the law was brought in because of transgressions UNTIL Christ. That is what Romans 7 and Romans 8 is showing. The contrast between the LAW before Christ (7) and the SPIRIT after Christ(8).

Now when you have time read the first 8 chapters of Romans in one sitting. And use a Bible like the New King James Version as it has the whole verse of Romans 8:1, where modern versions have only half the verse, and has lead to false teachings. There are many preachers that don't even know that Romans 7 is NOT about Christians. Ah vey!
That is a ridiculous misuse of the term "context". The farther out you pull, the more you can apply your own take on something. You are claiming the near context is a whole chapter in length. What happened to the verse before and after as near context?

There is no evidence that the Apostle is talking about someone else in Romans chapter seven. And don't give me that Semitic language garbage.

@Saint Steven, as usual we are going around the mountain, going over the same footage. You still can't see the truth, so there goes the dust off my feet. Good luck with the path you are on. I hope we meet up at the same place. I KNOW where I'm going.

Faith without works is dead.
So you openly admit to promoting salvation by works? (self-effort requirement)

What I posted.

John 8:34-36 again.
How does that balance with a whole-Bible view?
- Salvation as a gift of God
- Salvation not by works
- Salvation by grace through faith
- Faith credited as righteousness
- Believers not being judged, having crossed over already from death to life

Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 4:4-5
Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation. 5 However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.

John 5:24
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

Garbage? Knowledge. My people perish for lack of knowledge.
Claiming that the Bible does not mean what it plainly says is dangerous territory.
As does quoting the Bible to promote unbiblical doctrines. (assigning biblical authority to your own ideas - false witness)

That's fine reasoning, but you have failed to support your case biblically.

How can one know where they are going when they are over-driving their headlights with a dirty windshield? I'm trying to pull you out of the ditch. (or help you avoid it)

It occurred to me this week why we get talked down to. You don't believe that how you treat others is a violation of law. (only a personal transgression against a person who isn't God, therefore of no concern)
