• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My dad passed about four years ago of colon cancer. I am now 27 and am having "issues". I do not want to freak out too much, but I can't help, but worry. This has been going on for a little over a week. Additionally, I am scared that if I DO have the test done and they find nothing the insurance ( given my age would have a problem with it) I am not sure how much of this is panic and how much of this could be really serious. Any other (specially young people) have these issues).

The problem is I do not even know whether there is anything to beat and even if there is I am not sure once you HAVE it if it does much good in terms of it going away.

thank you

I have decided that if this is still an issue after my first week of summer camp is concluded (on June 7th) or if it clears up and comes back shortly after that that I will become more insistent on getting something done.

Mom ( I live with her) says she will give me until Wednesday. She does not think it is anything, but we would whether know than not. Glad of that I was afraid I was going to have to argue with her.

When I was having chemo after my surgery there was a 16 year old having treatment at the same time. Don't let a dr tell you that you are too young: get the test. Colon cancer is extremely survivable, if caught early! God bless you: please report back how you get on.

What "issues" or symptoms are you experiencing that have you concerned?

I always felt like I had to go to the bathroom. Now, that is getting better, but I am still averaging two to four times a day when before I was averaging one to two a day.

They caught dad's first round very early and he still had a relapse and ended up passing, so that kinda ( while I know you are right) sort of makes me a little iffy as to how good catching it early will do. They said they got it all, but it came back and that was NOT pretty because I took that it would not come back to be the gospel truth.

That doesn't seem like all that often. I go much more often than that. I even went to a urologist to have them make sure nothing was wrong, and they didn't find anything.

Oh, no. I thought you were referring to peeing 2 to 4 times a day. For bowel movements, that does seem like a lot. But it seems that as long as it's "solid", it's not really too much of an issue. Googling the subject, I found that 3 bowel movements a day or even 3 per week is actually normal.
How Many Times Should You Poop a Day: Factors and Frequency
It depends on the person, but when you go from 1 a day or so to 2-4 a day or so that is what was concerning me.

I began having the problems of being unable to empty my bowels around the first of May. Mom has been giving me some stuff to help and now they are even, but often. I am unsure if I should try going off the stuff ( It is not prescription or anything) to see if the stools stay the same or go back to like they were before.

That might be a good idea. Sounds like what your Mom gave you might be the reason for the increased frequency. Maybe even just cut the dose in half to see what happens. The good news is that you've been able to start going again. Far better than not being able to.

I was going 2-4 times a day at end of April start of May, but I felt like I ALWAYS had to go like literally if I sat on the toilet as often as I felt I needed to go I would be spending like 90% of my waking hours on the toilet. Now, I do not feel like I need to go quite that often, but still go the same 2-4 times a day.

Have you been having any other digestive problems? If there was something seriously wrong, it would probably be accompanied by something else.
