The Love of the Father.
Ephesians 2
"in order that in the coming ages He might display the surpassing riches of His grace, demonstrated by His kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast"
What! Deserve it?? The whole principle of grace is that we don't deserve it at all. If we deserved salvation, it would not be of grace. What we deserve it to spend eternity in hell, having the wrath of God continually poured on us as the just penalty of our sins. That's what we deserve, and the sooner we realise that, the greater we will really appreciate the wonderful salvation that Jesus has accomplished for us.
The problem is, that many have "got religion" and have taken Jesus as their "friend", and companion, and as a vending machine to satisfy their selfish desires. They think they deserve to have God love them into the kingdom. That is not so. A person with those attitudes will never seriously repent, and they will one foot in the Christian religion and the other still in the world. They will hold on to their favorite secret sins because they have no fear of God. They see Him as a lovey-dovey Father who appreciate the favour they have done for Him by coming into His kingdom.
In actual fact they are following a God of their own imagination, and believing in a dreamed-up Jesus instead of the God and Jesus of the Bible. They are believing another gospel and not the gospel of Christ which brings conviction of sin and the horrors of hell so that they will cry out to God for grace and mercy, Then the finished work of the real Jesus will be good news to them and they will solidly repent of all their sins and walk softly before God, being careful to honour Him and not grieve His Holy Spirit within them.
Most of what is peddled in many churches is another gospel, and not the gospel that Paul talked about as "the power of God unto salvation to all those who believe." Therefore when they hear the false gospel, they get religion, and instead of falling on their faces, trembling and shaking under the conviction of their sinfulness, they go into Kundalini type manifestations like violent shaking, jerking, falling over backwards and uncontrolled screaming and laughter, mistakenly thinking that is the Holy Spirit, when it is another spirit.
When a person hears the true gospel, that sin will condemn them to hell, they will come under conviction of sin and cry out for grace and mercy. Then, when they believe that Jesus paid the price for them, that is good news, and they then receive peace and joy knowing that they are truly saved. Their love for God will be so much deeper, because "When someone is forgiven much, they love much". It is a pity that this true gospel is not often preached with power in many of our churches, and there are many church members who have never actually heart the true gospel of Christ!
