I bought some cordless power tools years back and discovered that no cordless tools are made in america any more. All the tools are made in china or mexico. What happened to made in america? Why are trumps tariffs so bad? Dont they address this problem?

Average annual wage in the USA is 60,000 dollars.

Average annual wage in China is 9,000 dollars.

If the tools were made in the USA, it would cost much more and nobody would buy it. You would be too poor to buy American goods.

In the 50s and 60s average American families were supported by one person working, they could own their own home, and some even had two cars. Many/most of the products we bought were made in the USA.
How is it that we could afford to buy American made then but can't now?

They had much less things and they did not live in consumerism, they bought one car, one table, one bed for almost the whole life.

Average Americans today have tuns of useless cheap stuff. It must be cheap so that you can buy and buy and buy and have more than your neighbor. Even average houses in America are just cheap wooden boxes. Who can afford a real house made of bricks?

Of course, you can buy one high-quality american shoes instead of 10 pairs of Chinese shoes. But only few Americans want to do that. Not masses. Quantity and quick "fashion" changes are more important than quality, today.

You may want it, but most people are too poor for it. Poor people in America want to have many things, cheap things. Things that will last one-two years at best and then they will have to buy it again.

Thats the principle of consumerism.

You are wrong, these are expensive, high quality, professional tools which were and still could be made in USA. Pros dont buy junk.

If it would be advantageous to make them in USA, it would be so.

Either the "made in USA" tools would be so expensive, that nobody would buy them and the company making it would end, or there are not enough skilled workers to produce these tools for the whole market to satisfy the demand. There surely are reasons.

It's not what they want, it's what they can afford.

Greed is one reason. But it's too late to turn back the clock.

It is, it would bring back good american jobs, dont you understand that? You want to compete with cheap chinese labor? Thats not very wise is it? Our standard of living goes down trying to compete with china and thats ok with you?

Yes and democrats support this greed. What ever happened to helping the working class? Democrats seem uninterested in bringing back good american jobs.

Have you read the the DNC and RNC platforms? How many House and Senate bills have you followed to see who wants what and who votes for what?
