Just as seniors and others who depend on their savings are reeling from an almost 7% stock decline related to Chinese tariffs this May, Dollar Tree has announced it is suffering from Trump-flation.

Yes, folks, tariffs are making the 40% of Dollar Tree items manufactured in China more expensive, and Dollar Tree has no alternative but to trump its prices up.

There go your tax cuts, people. As a reminder, 99%, here's what Forbes estimated you would get (or have to pay additionally).
What Will The Trump Tax Cuts Mean For Your Wallet?

Fantastic! Keep it up President Trump! I dont really buy much cheap junk at dollar tree anyways. Now China has threatened Canada not to join the trade war, seems like China is not a country you want to do business with and they are showing their true colors.

Great Job!

I probably shop at Dollar Tree two or three times a week. They carry many of the brands you buy everywhere else at very reasonable prices, and if I just need a few things I can get in and out quickly. Some of those items are Halls Cough Drops, Pupperoni Dog Treats, Extra Gum, Campbell's soups. You can't beat the price of their greeting cards or gift wrap/bags anywhere. Our DT is near the hospital, and they sell helium balloons for less than the party stores. Their cleaning supplies, some brand name, are great. I love the disposable aluminum casserole pans, bake pans, pie plates, etc. for bringing food to potlucks and meetings (something I, as a recently retired lady, do quite a bit).

Our city has been hit by flooding, and we have been asked to donate toiletries and cleaning supplies. I don't know about you, but when I want to donate as many items as I can to flooded families, I don't spend that money in Walgreen's. Ten bucks buys ten bottles of shampoo, tubes of toothpaste, bottles of Fabuloso.

There are plenty of Lexuses in the Wal-Mart, Aldi, and Dollar Tree parking lots. I even saw a man with a construction business that does almost $300 million worth of business a year at Aldi's. If it's good enough for him, it sure is good enough for me.

The plummeting stock market doesn't bother you? Even Trump's Congressional enablers are wringing their hands, because they know the tariffs will tank the economy.

Sucks to be Dollar Tree, I guess...

If you didn't care about the Dow when it was soaring, why care about it when it's falling?

As a retiree, the health of the stock market is important to me, although most of our IRA's and savings are in a balanced blend of mutual funds that mitigate our downward risk.

Many people have 401K's at work. Most pension funds are invested in the stock market.

And when stock prices plummet, that's when even entry level employees need to worry--because companies will do everything they can to shore up their stock price. That includes laying off workers and even merging with another company to cut costs.

What are you talking about? The stock market isn’t plummeting and tariffs aren’t significant enough to tank the economy.

I agree that these conditions are reversible if Trump gets hold of his senses soon and ends the tariffs.

Today he enacted tariffs against Mexico for not stopping Central Americans from traveling to the U.S. Tell me, how will it discourage immigrants from applying for asylum if Trump takes action that will increase Mexican poverty and unemployment?

I am pretty sure if President Obama had taken action to raise prices while tanking the stock market Trump supporters would be concerned. (But of course Obama understood economics and markets...)

Have you heard that tariff-induced price increases will cost US families about $2200 a year? The only good thing about this is that it will hurt his chances for reelection.

Pity about The Dollar Store Farmers I know who've felt kicked in the groin with steel toed boots by Donald's idiotic trade wars depend on that store for their needs. Donald will just put on another one of his ties with his name on it that was made in China, grin since he knows there's folks ignorant enough to give him applause over this foolishness.

That’s not what the left wants to hear. Sorry but since the Trump haters don’t agree with you, you must be wrong.

I doon't know what you're happy aboot, Trump doesn't affect your country, eh? I mean you'll still be spending a few loonies on a bag of milk and the colour of the Canadian flag with the leaf in the centre woon't change, eh? Also, to Americans, a Canadian dollar store is thought of as a 75-cent store!

How many times has it been now that the Stock Market has crashed for good, owing to something Trump did that simply ruined the economy? I think its about three.

The market recovered in short order and went higher still each time.

Therefore, it will do that every time.

I'm not saying it will do it this time.

I would ALSO agree with you that people reacted too quickly to an 800 pt drop in two days.. A big drop over a short time means nothing. Eroding over time? Now that's a problem. But I don't thikn we're really seeing that yet.

Decent Americans care about all Americans, not just the ones in their tribe. Folks who voted for Trump & are not "Trump haters" have been badly hurt by his foolish trade policies. Now you as an old fellow made not personally have been, but that doesn't mean fellow Americans haven't been. Some Christians care genuinely about what happens to others besides themselves.
