How many dimensions of space are there?
There's one dimension, the divisions of space and time are actually illusions to help us see what's going on from a limited perspective.

Jacob Burroughs says there are three spatial (l, w, h) and three time (t, the, tau) dimensions.

Using these we can get to Oz, Barsoom and other interesting places.

(Sorry...feeling a little silly this morning.)

Space is the distance between particles.

So, with no particles, there is no space!

Right, so even here on earth there is space, that was my point, space is not only up above, it is everywhere.

except in places with no particles. Then it is "not space"

How many dimensions of space are there?

We cannot possibly say. All our science is an observation model: a game we play on paper and computers, that just models a projection into our senses, not the underlying reality.

By analogy our science is the red circle seen on a TV screen, where the reality could be a sphere, a spiral end on, or an infinite number of others. It also models only those things that interact with our senses. Red says as much about our senses as it does about the phenomenon. So non interacting particles , forces, dimensions are not accounted at all.

That is why the shrinking God of the gaps paradox is demonstrably false. Science explains nothing of what is at afundmental level. It models and uses the predictable behaviour of things that repeat in our observation space. It models what it normally does, not is.

Even hawking accepted the context of science when he spoke of "model dependnent reality" . That is , no unique model can account for the universe, there are multilpe models, that have to be used whwere they work, the models sometimes conflict.. He did not say so in those terms but "goodbye the theory of everything"

It is true that string theory sees a harmony in using a number 10: but the equations cannot resolve what cannot be observed, so are not determinate at anythign other than special cases.

So dimenssions could be finite, they could be infinite. We cannot possibly say.
Ask God.

But we can not prove particles, you can not prove what you can not see.
But don't we have microscopes so we can see small things?

What about antimatter? (re: no particles) Doesn't this imply there's a reality that we cannot touch?

Yes, we have microscopes, but what we see in the microscope what we think it is? or what we want it to be.

The same thing, Unless we can see it, we can not prove it, just as atheists say about God.

Its the same argument, but, i can see God, in all things.

Anti matter is not no particles. Anti matter is the presumption that nothing can spontaneously become two somethings that cancel each other out. So matter is the opposite of antimatter, and when they combine they disappear.

Indeed science now accpets the idea of particle pairs springing randomly into and out of existence. But remember this is a model. It may or may not have any connection with "what is".

You also presume that "cant see" is because of size. The reality is "cant see" is the lack of interaction with our senses or instruments, which may have large or small size who knows. Neutrons are hard to observe because of lack of interaction. That does not mean they are small. Wimps (weak interaction particles) are one of the conjecturers of missing mass.

Right. There is even space between protons and neutrons in atoms. However, the available space on my desk has somehow decreased over time, and I must do something to clean up the clutter.

We only have two kinds of space available to us. We have the kind of space when we look of into the heavens and then there's the space between our ears. What remains undetermined is which has the greater vacuum.

Ha ha!
An infinite number of kinds if you believe the tosh of modern day physics.

Did you know quantum theory postulates an infinite number of you, coexisting with all possible futures and histories?

So that space or vaccuum between your ears, is more abundant than ( one of )you thinks... the others may not be thinking it! Yes that really is science!

Here is a scary thought.

Space, is never ending and also infinite.

The question of course is what you mean by "space". Scientific models have the universe as finite expanding from a big bang, based on observation models. . The model is finite that is, not necessarily the reality.

But our universe may only be one small piece of an all together bigger space.
Maybe as "hitchikers guide" once said, our own universe is so small and irrelevant the whole of it is only worth two words and just classed as "mostly harmless" in someones encyclopaedia. And "other dimensions" are much more fun, and where it is at.... Maybe our fathers house has other mansions a long way from here...
