If we have to have ask questions about God, then I guess that means we don't really know him. Who asks questions about someone they know? If you know someone, wouldn't you know everything about them? Why are we asking questions here? Doesn't the holy spirit guide us into all truth and knowledge of him? I wonder if the holy spirit is being ignored here or something? Or maybe some people don't know the spirit either. What's going on? Jesus said his sheep know his voice cause they are familiar with it, you know why? Cause they know him and are famaliar with his ways from being one and in the presence of him through his spirit, the holy spirit, the spirit of God. If we have to question something about God, we must don't know him. Do people truly know God or just the idea, the cliches of him and the stuff they hear about him from others?

There's a disconnect since there isn't a face-to-face knowing.

What do you mean?
It says in 1st Corinthians 13 that we do not know what we are, but when we see him as face to face we will be as He is.

So in terms of "intimate knowing" by experiencing that degree of god likeness (theosis) we'd need to be in bodies that don't produce sin (re: Romans 7)

So, by that logic if we don't know everything about God, we don't know Him at all. That's silly, impossible and not biblical at all.

Not necessarily. And in this case, God is essentially above our level of understanding, so it is not surprising that people ask more questions, even while they believe in him.

In addition, the Bible, which supplies most of our information about God, states that it
does not aspire to tell us everything about God but only that which is necessary for its purpose--to lead us to Christ and so be saved.

Yes, we will never fully "know Him" in these bodies. What we know about Him is only as much as He has revealed to us. He is too complex to begin to understand everything about Him. The better question would seem to be then, " is He personal to you "? Do you put your trust in Him even when bad times come along ?

I don't understand.what does that verse have to do with anything I just said and yes when Jesus reveals ourselves through him, we see ourselves as we truly are and not what we thought we were, Jesus says the truth sets us free and when we see ourselves through Jesus and when he takes off our veil, that's when we will see our true selves and that's how we see ourselves after we go to Jesus and become born again, we see we are not perfect, we really arentarwhat we sawsourselves as, we are not perfect, Jesus is the only perfect one and the only way to be like him and perfect in him is to deny ourselves and follow him and his ways, because when we do that we become famaliar with him and become like him too.

Hi Jen, it's my belief that an eternity spent in God's presence will not be long enough to know everything about Him, that we will, in fact, spend eternity in absolute wonder and amazement as we find out more and more about Him :)

As for life on this side of eternity (at least), the Bible makes it clear that we do not/cannot know everything about God, that there are mysteries and secret things that are known by God alone. The good news is, the information that He has revealed to us is all that we need to find Him, know Him, know what He expects of us, and, of course, be saved by Him :amen:

As the Bible tells us,

Deuteronomy 29
29 The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law.

You asked about "knowing God." In the biblical discourse, there are two types of knowing, the knowing of an idea, and an intimate knowing that occurs through an experience usually with God but also applied to Adam and Eve "knowing" each other.

Even in regular human relationships, we cannot know the other person completely, just all they are willing to say out of the parts that they actually know about themselves.

Since God cannot be observed by our eyes like humans that we know, that angle of "observing behavior" is kind of out of the picture in terms of universally knowing God.

For example: I follow God's leading and avoid trouble, other people follow God's leadings and get nothing but trouble.

So I don't think it means we don't know God, but are wholly incapable of seeing the whole picture. However, whatever image and likeness remains within us that is like Him, then from that perspective of the "spark of the divine" we can see an aspect of God that perhaps no one else can. That is one of the reasons we communicate in context of scripture, since our individual experiences of God's hand in our lives will vary.

Of course we can't know him in these bodies, especially if we are not born again, how can we see the truth of anything if we didn't enter the kingdom of God? If we are outside of the kingdom , how can truth be revealed to us, how can we see and know the truth living outside of the kingdom. Jesus said the only way to the father is through him, and if we are not born again, we can not enter the kingdom of God. And the only way to do that is to be born again, recieve the holy spirit so the holy spirit can lead us to Jesus and we can be guided into all truth. How does one go to Jesus? The holy spirit invites us to accept him in our hearts. So yes I believe there is a way to know him fully. With the holy spirit and a believing born again renewed spirit and heart..

I'd agree partially since eye has not seen and ear has not heard of what God has prepared for those who love Him. We'd still have theological disagreements and have a unique *something* each.

Even if we can't know everything, why not ask the holy spirit the questions asked on these forums? If you can ask others questions on here, then I'm sure you can ask the holy spirit the same ones asked on here since they are answerable, acceptable and all knowable

Yes, when we come to Jesus we are changed. He works in our lives, we will never be as we were before, Thank God. Indeed, He has shown me things about myself that I even had forgotten. But he doesn't hold us in our past either.

It's not about disagreements, it's about one thinking they are right , know everything and trying to have the last word. We don't gain God's favor by feeling secure and superior in ourselves for having a right answer on here.

Asking the Holy Spirit is great and we should all do that, and forums are not the greatest place to get answers. But do you realize you are actually potentially hindering people's relationship with God by doing this?

I was wondering what you meant. I agree, our relationship with God is the most important source of theology, and it's so much more than that. John 5:44
