Steak, Sumo and Fighter Jets: Inside Japan's Plan to Keep Trump Busy

As Written

When Donald Trump arrives in Tokyo on Saturday, he’ll be the first foreign leader to meet Japan’s new Emperor Naruhito, but he won’t find much “executive time” on his schedule.

Japanese officials have gone to great pains to ensure that Trump’s time will be filled by playing golf with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, presenting the “Trump Cup” to the winner of a sumo wrestling tournament and visiting a helicopter carrier that is being adapted so it could host Lockheed Martin’s vertical takeoff F-35B jet fighters. A dinner is planned at a robatayaki restaurant, where with respect for the president’s preference for well-done steak, the meat will be grilled before his eyes.

Much of that kabuki choreography is simply the product of traditional Japanese culture and hospitality, as well as Abe’s long-running effort to flatter the American leader, which in the past has included giving him a $3,755 gold-plated golf club.
If written as reporting:
When President Trump arrives in Tokyo on Saturday, he’ll be the first foreign leader to meet Japan’s new Emperor Naruhito, where they have planned a very heavy schedule

Japanese officials have scheduled event for the President including playing golf with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, presenting the “Trump Cup” to the winner of a sumo wrestling tournament and visiting a helicopter carrier that is being adapted so it could host Lockheed Martin’s vertical takeoff F-35B jet fighters. A dinner is planned at a robatayaki restaurant, where with respect for the president’s preference for well-done steak, the meat will be grilled before his eyes.

If written bias positive:
When President Donald Trump arrives in Tokyo on Saturday, he will have the privilege to be the first foreign leader to meet Japan’s new Emperor Naruhito, the historical significance of this occasion between two world leaders includes a very busy schedule

Japanese officials have gone to great pains to ensure that the American President's time will be respected by playing golf with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, a long time ally, having the honor to present the “Trump Cup” to the winner of a sumo wrestling tournament and visiting a helicopter carrier that is being adapted so it could host Lockheed Martin’s vertical takeoff F-35B jet fighters. A result of the cooperation between nations. A dinner is planned at a robatayaki restaurant, where with respect for the president’s preference for well-done steak, the meat will be grilled before his eyes.

Personally, I wish they would just report the news.

Why does the fact of the expensive golf club not count as a fact or news? I do get it could never be written with a positive bias

Meh. I don't think it really matters as long as the facts get reported accurately.

It is called biased reporting - casting a positive or negative light on a person according to personal persuasion or beliefs. It's not reporting news - it is promoting one political objective over another.

Context and reason is everything.

I am unsure of the OP’s point-of-view: I would assume that the companies, (in some cases, foundations or other, privately funded organizations) will couch news items in a way that best puts forward their own particular point-of-view, (goals, policies) while presenting the facts.

You cannot have “market based journalism” and expect a “just the facts reporting style”!
Competition amongst various outlets will always provide color for the “news”!

(You can get a “just the facts” style but usually it tends to be “The Official News that has been cleared as 100% pure by The-Powers-That-Be”, and nobody wants THAT? Do we?)

What I get from the op is that this is exactly what most of the media is doing.

Right, but “the press” (as the media used to be called), has always had “a side”.
Without a free-press, (free to frame the facts with whatever “biases” each news outlet desires to imbue while presenting “facts”), then we would be given a story devoid of nuance, upshot, and yes, spin.

There is a world of difference between bias reporting that disrupts (or a "flowering") facts and bias reporting that is simply untrue.

What I see his supporters doing is claiming ALL news reports about Trump that don't have a positive bias be labelled as untrue; regardless of whether it is a disruption of facts or all lies. This is just intellectually lazy in my mind.
