‘Dystopian approach’: SEC gives blessing to MasterCard’s idea of cutting off right-wingers

MasterCard is not the only holder of purse-strings that is mulling the selective banning of individuals from their services and funds. Patreon and PayPal have previously barred individuals from receiving payments using their platforms, due to their extreme views.

But unlike crowdfunding platforms, being cut off from one of the leading American multinational financial services corporations will, most likely, have a much greater impact on the financial stability of an individual or a group, especially after the US Securities and Exchange Commission reportedly blessed MasterCard’s undertaking. By doing this, Swann believes the government granted “big corporations the ability to control what voices are heard.”

The issue with such an approach, the investigative journalist argues, would lead to a wider crackdown on financial payments to anyone who the government would see as unfavorable.

“The fact that the SEC has given a green light to this essentially says the SEC supports the idea of censoring these groups in order to freeze out essentially anyone you don’t agree with,” the journalist said.

“It is such a dystopian 1984 world view and yet we’re living through it right now,” the journalist observed.

Prophetic Link:
“And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Revelation 13:17.

Determining who wins and who loses by using political ideology as a basis, how novel.

That would be Gerrymandering. Which is legal too, BTW. White nationalists, pedophile groups and the like are often not accepted as customers by financial institutions. Go figure. Perhaps you'd like a law requiring private financial institutions to do business with anyone who wants their assistance?

Go for it.

I suppose it depends on whether your higher value is economic freedom or white supremacy (or pedophilia or whatever those companies don't want to be associated with).

MasterCard can do whatever they want I could care less cause I don't deal with them. But if they're going to do something as stupid as this they should at least do it "fairly". Why just target only a small portion of the White Supremacist groups why not the ones affiliated with the "liberal activists" that are forcing MasterCard to do this in the first place

Some companies are just soooooo stupid...

The problem may be that the idea is being promoted in certain quarters that anyone who is not on the political Left is, ipso facto, a White Supremacist. So it is not as though something like this cannot affect the average person.

If you're entrepreneurial, then it sounds like a market opportunity. Build out a payment processing service for whoever you choose.

Economies of scale and barriers to entry. That's why we have antitrust laws.

I don't see anything in capitalism that says businesses should be "fair." Socialism, yes. Usually, when someone asks for businesses to be "fair", they have a handout in mind.

Why just target only a small portion of the White Supremacist groups

I think they target all white supremacist and white nationalist groups. Pedophile groups, too, and others.

why not the ones affiliated with the "liberal activists" that are forcing MasterCard to do this in the first place

Because they aren't racists. That matters. And keep in mind, businesses probably aren't doing this out of kindness or morality; if they do business with that kind of organization, people will draw conclusions about them. Corporations are for making money, and it's an economic decision.

Some companies are just soooooo stupid...

Go figure. Maybe some enterprising bank will come up with a "FarRight Card" and make huge bucks patronizing the KlanNaziWhiteNationalist demographic.

Economies of scale and barriers to entry.

That's kind of a revelation in itself, isn't it?

Because they aren't racists.

You really don't think that anybody with more than 2 brain cells to rub together believe that do you? Especially when you consider which political ideology came up with the concept of white supremacy back in the 1800s and now also supports black supremacy...

Just noting the obvious. As you learned, racists flocked to the republican party after Nixon's Southern Strategy, and after Trump's election the KKK held a victory parade. Oh, and that "Heil Trump" thing from white nationalists. Stuff like that. All those guys are conservatives, not liberals.

Especially when you consider which political ideology came up with the concept of white supremacy back in the 1800s

Conservatism. Yep. That was kind of a litmus test for conservatism. All the congressmen voting against the civil rights act were conservatives. None of of them were liberals.

and now also supports black supremacy...

Only in selected African nations where Trump has investments.

This is out of RT (Russia Today) and Infowars.

So I do not believe this at all. It is a Russian troll story picked up by some far right sites.

Why would we be surprised at banks and credit card companies wanting to control us or what we can and cannot say?

It's more concerning to me that some people support basically forbidding someone to exist in the modern economy.
Find a legitimate source for the claim.

What are the barriers to entry for MasterCards industry? There are a lot of fintech startups that seem to be able to pull it off...
