"They will receive everything our Father in Heaven has and will become like Him. They will even be able to have spirit children and make new worlds for them to live on, and do all the things our Father in Heaven has done. People who have not been married in the temple may live in other parts of the celestial kingdom, but they will not be exalted."
Gospel Fundamentals [2001], 201

"Then will they become Gods...they will never cease to increase and to multiply, worlds without end. When they receive their crowns, their dominions, they then will be prepared to frame earths like unto ours and to people them in the same manner as we have been brought forth by our parents, by our Father and God”
Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 17:143

“The Father has promised us that through our faithfulness we shall be blessed with the fullness of his kingdom. In other words, we will have the privilege of becoming like him.
To become like him we must have all the powers of godhood; thus a man and his wife when glorified will have spirit children who eventually will go on an earth like this one we are on and pass through the same kind of experiences, being subject to mortal conditions, and if faithful, then they also will receive the fullness of exaltation and partake of the same blessings. There is no end to this development; it will go on forever. We will become gods and have jurisdiction over worlds, and these worlds will be peopled by our own offspring.”
Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation Vol. 2, p.48, (also quoted in Achieving a Celestial Marriage Student Manual, 197)

"We educate ourselves in the secular field and in the spiritual field so that we may one day create worlds, people and govern them."
The Teachings of Spencer W. Kimball, ed. Edward L. Kimball [1982], p. 386

"Mortal persons who overcome all things and gain an ultimate exaltation will live eternally in the family unit and have spirit children, thus becoming Eternal Fathers and Mothers."
Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p.517

"In this way both the Father and the Son, as also all exalted beings, are now or in due course will become Gods of Gods. (Teachings pp. 342-376)"
Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, McConkie, pp. 322-323

What blessings await those who live worthy of exaltation? (Godhood, having all things subject to them, having angels subject to them, having all power, living with Jesus.) Point out that just as Jesus Christ was promised all that the Father has, we can also receive all power and dominion, becoming creators of other spirits and other worlds.
“Lesson 29: Exaltation,” Young Women Manual 2, 1993, p. 110

BUT WHAT ABOUT HEAVENLY MOTHERS?
"In this way both the Father and the Son, as also all exalted beings, are now or in due course will become Gods of Gods. (Teachings pp. 342-376)"

Everyone will have the opportunity to become like our heavenly parents. We can become one with the Father and Son as stated in the Bible. The Bible also states that we can be joint-heirs with Jesus Christ. It depends on whether or not we love Jesus enough to keep the commandments:

(New Testament | John 17:16 - 23)

16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
23 I in them, and thou in me,
that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.

(New Testament | Romans 8:16 - 17)

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

(New Testament | John 14:15)

15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments.

(New Testament | John 14:21 - 23)

21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

I wonder how the next "god" and his celestial wife will get to the next habitable planet if the nearest one might be 17,000 years away by ordinary space travel; and what if that planet is inhabited by total atheists in a culture that is ten thousand years ahead of our own by the time they get there?

Everyone will have the opportunity to become like our heavenly parents.

Do we get a choice of being like Heavenly Father and let others become like Heavenly Mother? or does earthly gender determine this?

How are planets doled out? to heavenly couples?

Those are good questions unfortunately there is no documented answers that I know of. Therefore all I can do is advise you is to go to God through sincere prayer.

The gaseous planets would be doled out to those who are just full of gas! :)

Planets would not be doled out, they would be created, just like God the Father created ours.

The universe is expanding fast, that is because of the creations that are taking place now.

The ways of the Lord to navigate the universe are much higher than yours, maybe even as different as you and an amoeba. So you and I can not answer your silly question, but God could and does get around the universe in a way that is unknown to you and our science.

It was a deliberately silly question, again, to connect with your sense of humour.
But seriously, I understand that there are mysteries about God that we will never know. We have to just take the Bible at its word where we don't understand intellectually what and why it says what it says.

How can that be off topic? The topic is
Do Latter-day Saints believe that they will "get their own planet?"

Then your post was all about becoming Gods and that is what I talked about.
You ignored the question:

Do Latter-day Saints believe that they will "get their own planet?"

If we become like our heavenly parents, we may become able to form all things the way they do:

(Old Testament | Proverbs 26:10)

10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors.

(Old Testament | Isaiah 45:7)

7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.

However it takes lots of faith to do this:

(New Testament | Hebrews 11:3)

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

We also believe that we may become joint Heirs with Jesus Christ:

(New Testament | Romans 8:16 - 17)

16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

However there is a stipulation, we need to love the way God loves because God is LOVE. We can do this by keeping the commandments of LOVE thereby becoming like God:

(New Testament | 1 John 2:5)

5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

Very interesting how not one of your quotes came from The Book of Mormon ? Is it because the Book of Mormon is void of LDS teachings ?

No, it is because every time I quote the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, or the Pearl of Great Price, few here give it any credibility. That being said, the Book of Mormon, The Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price bring a deeper understanding of the Bible and help give credence to belief in God as a witness of God in these latter days.
