Alabama legislators refuse to fund mother and child health care as they ban nearly all abortions
Alabama’s Senate approved legislation on Tuesday that would ban nearly all abortions in the state at every stage of pregancy, but refused to consider amendments that would take provide health care for the mothers who were denied abortions.

State Senator Linda Coleman-Madison proposed an amendment to the bill that would require the state to provide free prenatal and medical care for mothers who had been denied an abortion by the new law. Her amendment was struck down by a vote of 23-6.

“The sin to me is bringing a child into this world and not taking care of them,” Coleman-Madison said. "The sin for me is that this state does not provide adequate care. We don’t provide education. And then when the child is born and we know that mother is indigent and she cannot take care of that child, we don’t provide any support systems for that mother.”

State Senator Vivian Davis Figures proposed three amendments to the bill, one which would require a Medicaid expansion to provide funding for mothers and their young children, another that would require those who voted for the bill to pay for the legal costs of defending it in court and a third to make it illegal for a man to get a vasectomy. All of the amendments were voted down.

The new abortion laws do not grant exceptions for cases of rape or incest and doctors who perform abortions in-state would face up to 99 years in prison. The change sets up a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade, the 1973 landmark Supreme Court case that granted women their constitutional right to terminate a pregnancy.

That's because the so-called "pro-life" agenda has nothing to do with life and everything to do with control and punishment. Born people have no "right to life" and that includes the newly born. (Especially if poor or the "wrong" color.) They fight against every social policy that would help to make people's lives better.

I think the above post is an unfair assessment of the entire pro-life movement, which includes people like me. I'm a liberal activist who opposes abortion and yet I not only advocate for the unborn but also I advocate for the children who are born. I'm also not the only pro-life advocate who stands up for children who are born either. The following links are examples of other pro-life advocates. I would like to give credit to @redleghunter for his dedicated effort in posting these links in his previous posts.

They only deny health care for abortions, not other stuff, get real.

That is not what the article says.....

I don't care what any article said.

In real life, no one is going to be denied health care under any law for any reason.

If you have insurance, then its up to the insurance company if they will cover you.

If you do not, Hospitals will still cover you and you will owe them .

The truth is Abortion or not, you can not be turned away for health care , unless, you want to end up in court and be sued.

Considering the article is what we are talking about it is kind of relevant and would probably increase your understanding of the subject as well.

How is it even possible to contradict yourself in two secutive posts of your own......

First quote says no one is going to denied healtcare for any reason.

Second quote says healthcare will be denied for abortions thus contradicting the first quote.

Wrong,

First quoit said Unless its for a abortion you will not be denied.

Second quit no one will be denied health care heath reasons, not for abortions.

So no contradictions, and you are assuming I meant for also abortions.

Sure, we will just chalk it up for your creative use of language. Maybe we can go back to article OP posted and discuss that.

And make others believe the article over truth?

Why would I have a creative use of language just to amuse you?

This isn't banning medical assistance. Unless on state assistance, I don't know of anyone who gets free medical care and prenatal throughout pregnancy, so I would reach this as an unusual amendment that the states couldn't afford regardless.

Every one of the Alabama legislators who supported this bill was a male!

This may come as a shock, but this is the 21stC and young women in America are not about to allow white, elderly men in suits impose their morality!

The real showdown will come when 1000's of young women defy these laws, eventually filling the prisons with those that have been sentenced up to 99 years!

Who is denied health care?

Well, i guess it depends where you are, Where i am from, no one is denied health care.

Even the poor people have state employees come to there homes and help them with care.
