Attorney General William P. Barr has tapped the U.S. attorney in Connecticut to examine the origins of the Russian election-interference probe, according to reports late Monday.

John H. Durham, the top federal prosecutor in Connecticut, has been asked to get the bottom of the Justice Department’s investigation into members of the Trump presidential campaign.

Mr. Durham’s probe will focus on whether the Justice Department lawfully collected intelligence on Trump campaign associates, according to both The New York Times and Associated Press, each citing sources familiar with the matter.

It is not clear what investigative powers Mr. Durham will have or whether Mr. Barr will authorize a team or budget. Special counsel Robert Mueller had a squad of roughly 20 people to conduct his investigation.

Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec did not immediately return a request for comment. Thomas Carson, a spokesman for Mr. Durham, declined to comment.

This is going to make some folks (Clapper and Brennan for instance) wet their knickers and double down on slandering Barr.

Durham has a long history of investigation in high profile cases. Though it smells because it has an outward appearance corrupt intentions by the White House, Durham is a well respected prosecutor in the DOJ dating back several administrations.

Is that what they paid Comey?

Sounds like he reneged on his deal. And the funny part is he's only giving more information to add to his own indictment when it comes, what a dummy.

It looks to me more of a 'review' than anything:

CIA, Director of National Intelligence working with Attorney General Barr to review Russia probe origins - CNNPolitics

Attorney General William Barr is working closely with the CIA to review the origins of the Russia investigation and surveillance issues surrounding Donald Trump's presidential campaign, according to a source familiar with the matter, broadening an effort that the President has long demanded to involve all major national security agencies.......

As CNN previously reported, US attorney John Durham in Connecticut is heading up the effort with Barr. The source said Durham and Barr are doing a comprehensive review, and Durham is with working with the Justice Department's Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, as well.

Perhaps. But the last “view” took almost 2 years.

They'll be paying off people to keep quiet, so they'll still be able to continue their anti Trump frenzy.
Proof? Or is this just pro Trump, anti-Democrat conspiracy theory?

Past performance plus a little added humor, something libs have difficulty with, specially when it comes to Trump. I can relate, especially when Obama was at the helm.

Perhaps. But the last “view” took almost 2 years.
The last 'view' showed the Russians did, in fact, attempt to interfere and did interfere with the election. It showed the Trump campaign was receptive. It showed at least 10 instances of obstruction by the Trump administration in the effort to see what Russia did - with Mueller leaving it to the congress because of DOJ policy.

What this review will probably show is that the concern about the Russians instigated the Russian probe.
What started the Trump-Russia investigation? Not the Steele Dossier as Trump claims

The memo instead affirmed a hotly contested story from the New York Times which traces to beginning of the investigation into the Trump campaign's ties to Russia to Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos and a conversation he had with an Australian diplomat in a London bar in May 2016 boasting about Russians having "dirt" on Hillary Clinton.

The Russia probe: A timeline from Moscow to Mueller

Three key takeaways:

-- In the months before the 2016 presidential election, the FBI was uncovering efforts by the Russian government to interfere in the election, and the FBI was trying to assess unverified allegations that Trump’s associates were aiding the Russian effort.

-- The FBI’s counterintelligence probe was not launched because of the “dossier,” but the “dossier” aided the investigation and offered unconfirmed tips for agents to explore.

-- Looking to share the work of a longtime acquaintance, senior Justice Department official Bruce Ohr passed on “dossier”-linked information to the FBI. But the first recorded meeting between Ohr and the FBI came four months after the FBI launched its investigation and a full month after the FBI used previously-obtained information from the “dossier” to support secret surveillance of Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

You are right. By responding to an unsubstantiated post I may have made a double negative.
Except that Stormy Daniels was paid $130,000 to keep quiet during the campaign.
