What Bible commentaries do you use when studying the Scriptures?

Gordon Clark, Albert Barnes come to mind. John MacArthur's commentaries are very good. I used to have a bunch of them on my old Esword but couldn't get it on the MAC I'm using now. Stupid MACs!

From what I remember he is both a Hebrew and Koine Greek language scholar as well.

I’m not sure, but his writing style is very accessible and he takes a very broad approach, considering different approaches to the text.

I don't worry about brand names too much. Because there is so much free information, I mostly just look for someone who tells me something I don't already know which seems to be true. I especially like ones that add historical context to biblical times.

For controversial subjects, I recommend a comprehensive book on Systematic Theology which covers all the major positions neutrally and then reveals their view.

Yes some have mentioned eSword and probably the best available for free is Bible Hub.

I use the Bible as it is the best commentary on itself the best outside commentaries are those who can demonstrate the word and how it relates to the word. If you have never read any Martin LLoyd Jones he is pretty good.

Yes, many of the modern Reformed pastors and theologians consider Dr. Jones as a mentor.

I have looked up on the net a comparative commentary location with various writers being compared. But I have not done this very much. Different writers of the Bible can be commentary on one another, and the context in any area of scripture can be commenting.

But I enjoy looking up a word in the Strong's Concordance Hebrew or Greek dictionary, so this can be a comment on what a word can mean.

And I benefit from reading a Spanish Bible, which can say and bring out things which maybe English does not quite have the ability to say in direct wording. Or I just get enlightened by the ministry of the ones who did the Spanish translation, like how ones who did the English version could be ministering to us. Each one can minister along with the others.

And our Apostle Paul says we ourselves are an epistle of Christ. My example people are a commentary, then, as my example of how God's love has us becoming and living all He knows His word means, and which can be deeper than what any words can tell. So, also, how God in us lives can be commentary demonstrating all He means.

Weighing in here ...

I have two good study Bibles.

One is the King James Study Bible by Thomas Nelson Publishers. As far as I have seen, the verse notes are right on with good biblical hermeneutucs.

The other is The New Defender's Study Bible, KJV, by Henry Morris, World Publishing. I was on a creation vs evolution debate kick for a long time and Henry Morris is the preeminent source. His verse notes often occupy more space on the page than the verses do. I find his interpretations to be about 99.5 percent in line with the KJ Study Bible.

On the Internet I go primarily to John MacArthur, Chuck Missler, David Guzik's commentaries on Blue Letter Bible, and GotQuestions.org.

I admire the huge amount of work that Matthew Henry (and those who took up for him when he died) put into his commentaries, but I'm sorry to say that his take on certain important doctrines that I have strong feelings about do differ from my viewpoint and thus don't offer much when I am doing research.
