I am not a Democrat, I was a Republican until 2002.
I'm not a big fan of VP Biden. I will be disappointed in the party of the donkey if he is the nominee over fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
otoh, I think I'd vote for a literal jackass over the current occupant of the White House.

He might do that anyway, just by standing still. Back when I was in college, I was a staunch conservative and a registered Republican. Since then I have become a liberal Democrat, mainly by not changing my political opinions very much since then.

He's been rumored to run for much longer than that, though, so they've been polling about a potential Trump/Biden match-up for a long time.

IF... he is willing to NOT go down the liberal/socialist/leftist road.

It might be nigh on impossible for him to actually do that, but if he's willing and able to distinguish himself from the radical left who have pretty successfully made themselves the "voice" of the Dem party, he'll find that there are a LOT of Democrats that are uncomfortable with the insanity that has taken over their party, and they would throw their support and primary votes to him.

It is not PC to oppose the radical left inside the Dem party right now, so no one is speaking up. But any candidate that had the gall to do so would win the nomination... at least that's my prediction.

Furthermore, ONLY the Dem candidate who distances him/herself from that lunacy will stand even the remotest chance to beat Trump.

The polls in the 2016 election were actually accurate -- to point that out for the millionth time on this forum. Clinton won the popular vote, just like the polls said she would. The polls don't do "electoral college" math, the merely show the total percentage that say they will vote for each candidate -- and again, they were within their margins of error.

Then again, we are 18 months away from the election and a lot can change. The polls are likely to be "roller coasters," with various candidates up and down, from now until November 2020. I remember in 1991, all the pollsters and commentators claimed that Bush had reelection locked up. But, after his supermarket "gaffe" (where he seemed not to know about checkout scanners) and the "no new taxes" broken promise, he lost in 1992. Again, a lot can and will happen in the next 18 months.

I don't see a reason to vote for him and I won't vote for him if he doesn't come up with an acceptable platform. I'll only vote for someone who stands for most of what I want them to stand for.

Obama had dropped the ball pretty badly during his first debate...looking unprepared and generally indecisive. The GOP was practically celebrating the upcoming debate of Biden and Paul Ryan, since they spent the last 4 years making him look foolish. That changed quickly when Biden dominated Ryan and made it look like he was lost.

Anyone writing off Biden early risks embarrassing themselves. All he needs to do is get past the younger hardcore left's racist hate towards old white men and deliver them vague promises about the nonsense they prioritize like reparations and social justice and he's got a real shot.

Wow... that's not how I remember that debate.

What I remember is that Biden came off like an insipid fool... laughing at Ryan rather than offering substantive arguments for his position.

I think he'd win the nomination running away. Then once he has the nomination, and the leftists realize that he's their only hope to unseat Trump, they'll get right on board and vote for him in the General election.

Even then, I don't think that Trump is beatable, honestly. But I do think that Biden is probably their best shot.

It's fuzzy now but thinking back I can almost recall him receiving criticism in the media years ago for; "Literally, billions of dollars paid over by the Chinese government to Biden companies when Joe Biden was vice president and when Joe Biden went soft on China." Must be the political amnesia setting in already, judging by the polls, I'm probably not the only one. The obstacles of being a lifelong establishment politician, might be a bit much to overcome, after the media refreshes memories.

I agree... I don't think he'll be able to do avoid bowing to the leftists, and they still will not choose him, even if he bows to them. Not bowing is his only way to win, though. I don't think the left realizes that by radicalizing the national Dem party, they are giving the next 4 years to a Trump presidency.

I also don't see any one of the other candidates rising to the top of the field. Some have suggested that Kamala Harris has the best shot... and I think they might be right. She's relatively young, female, and non-white... and she's pretty articulate while not being a "shouter" like Mr. Sparticus.
