Hi Family,

I have been studying Mark 5:8 which says:
8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

In Greek 3004 Lego it means he said in the plural . Concordance

It looks like Jesus said multiple (plural) times to come out. Lexicon

It looks like it even took Jesus multiple times to get legion out.

Is my thinking correct?

PS I placed this in Discussion because it may spark a discussion as to the Authority of Jesus.

I doubt Jesus said it more than once. The plural part is probably referencing Legion which is many many spirits.
Plural, according to the Greek Lexicon 3004 means said plural not referring to what He said it to. From what I have seen.

The following is from strong's:

G3004
(Strong)

λέγω

legō

leg'-o

A primary verb; properly to “lay” forth, that is, (figuratively) relate (in words [usually of systematic or set discourse; whereas G2036 and G5346 generally refer to an individualexpression or speech respectively; while G4483 is properly to break silence merely, and G2980 means an extended or random harangue]); by implication to mean: - ask, bid, boast, call, describe, give out, name, put forth, say (-ing, on), shew, speak, tell, utter.

In the Thayer's Lexicon it says: 3 person Plural Imperfect.

8For Jesus had already declared, “Come out of this man, you unclean spirit!”

Mark was stating what Jesus had previously declared ... Jesus only said it once. Mark was recapping what had already been said by Jesus ... one time.

Why does it say plural though? I understand the 3 person and imperfect.

Maybe it is Greek 2036 but Strong's says it is 3004. They are a bit different. Lex are confusing sometimes.

I think this makes a big difference... one is singular 2036 and one is plural 3004. Is the Strong's wrong?

Appears you are keying in on the word said ....

Strongs

legó: to say
Original Word: λέγω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: legó
Phonetic Spelling: (leg'-o)
Definition: to say
Usage: (denoting speech in progress), (a) I say, speak; I mean, mention, tell, (b) I call, name, especially in the pass., (c) I tell, command.

Mark 5:8 Greek Text Analysis

I don't see any plurality. That is Him speaking the command to come out more than once.

In Thayers lexicon 3004 is plural and singular. You might have to visit the lex since strongs doesnt usually show that info. But in strongs it could prob be 2036...
