The U.S. ambassador to Poland wished Jews a happy Passover in Polish, and the reaction has been a wave of angry comments on Twitter.

Ambassador Georgette Mosbacher also wished Poles a happy Easter on Sunday. But by then, she was accused of offending the country with her Passover tweet and reminded that she is serving in a mostly Roman Catholic country.

Krystyna Pawlowicz, a lawmaker with Poland's ruling right-wing party, called it a "provocation."

Those few who are ancestors of the rare survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto might. What the ambassador said was proper. If the Czech ambassador to the USA wants to convey wishes for a Happy Quanza, nobody's feathers would be ruffled. Presuming they also conveyed wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy Hannukah.

If Christ was resurrected, there is no ground for judaism. You cannot have/wish both. You must choose one.

Judaism and Christianity are not like "blue and green", they are incompatible and against each other.

To wish a judaistic holiday to a Catholic Poland is, at least, very insensitive from that ambassador. Similar to wishing a communist holiday in the USA.

Poland was much more 'multicultural' before Hitler 'solved' that problem.

Since the Christ has been resurrected there is a basis for Judaism to come to recognize their own Messiah. How is that going to happen when someone wishing them a Happy Passover is castigated by representatives of the Monolith. We wish then a happy Passover and we pray that they may recognize the eternal Passover Lamb, who was slain for their sins too, based on their own Scriptures.

Would the ambassador have gotten as chilly a reception had she wished the Muslims of Poland a happy Eid? That can be tested.

I would expect an ambassador to show a bit more awareness of the situation.

Some holocaust investigation team or another has begun blaming Poland for what happened. Meanwhile, the Polish government has refused any and all responsibility for that. The Polish people, understandably, don't want to be associated with genocide.

As I say, Poland has never been overly fond of jews but things have really gotten worse this year. The ambassador's statement was incredibly tone deaf and you'd think a diplomat would know better.

People are searching for more verbal crimes. They seem to want more verbal crimes. Anything... I'm sorry is not enough. Even if no harm was meant by it.

Context matters. Right now, the French people are probably in no mood to wish the Moslem community a happy Ramadan. A year ago, maybe they were. But right now, not so much.

Being accused of genocide against a bunch of people they never liked much in the first place is a lot for the Polish to take in. I'm not saying anybody has to agree with them. I understand if they don't agree, in fact. But ambassadors rarely get optimal, best case circumstances. The situation in Poland is what it is.

And the fact is that diplomats should know better.

I'm all about being sensitive. And that includes both sides. It is one thing to do something with malice. Which obviously was not the case here. And it is another thing to be assimilated into the 'group think' which seems to be the motivator here to jump on the Brainwashing R Us bandwagon.
