Did Satan give me Aspergers?

Asperger's is a terrible disease that makes living the Christian life much harder than a typical normal NT. My question is because of my parents sin did Satan give me Asperger's? or is a punishment from God?

No, he didn't! And it's definitely not a punishment from God!

Look at the passage in the Gospel of John (John 9), where Jesus heals a man born blind. This specifically addresses the question you are asking:

As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” Having said these things, he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing.
Look too at the "thorn in the flesh" Paul talks about having (2 Corinthians 12):

Therefore, so that I would not become arrogant, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to trouble me—so that I would not become arrogant. I asked the Lord three times about this, that it would depart from me. But he said to me, “My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me. Therefore I am content with weaknesses, with insults, with troubles, with persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.
Having Asperger's can be a burden -- but it can also be an opportunity for God's grace to manifest in you, and for His power to be made perfect in your weakness. I truly believe that having Asperger's is not a disability -- you are not broken -- but you are different, and may have unique struggles -- but we all have struggles, that He gives us His grace to overcome.

(Hi, pleased to meet you. My brother has Asperger's too.)

P.S. Paul does talk about the thorn in the flesh being a "messenger from Satan," but I tend to think he is being figurative. Even if Satan were tormenting you -- he can only do what God allows him to do (see Job). I do not think Asperger's is a curse. It's just a different way of thinking and seeing the world, that honestly can be a gift.

We do know that sickness and disease did not originate in God. But people have not understood the full consequence that came with the sin nature that came in when Adam sinned. Now all mankind is open to all maladies. Jesus came to heal if you can believe.

If it is not a curse then why did I backslide for 15 years? Answer easy because I'm lonely and wanted friends first and God second. I am trying to change that attitude but it is very difficult.
But that is not because that. Many many backslide who have no problems. Many are lonely and put others before God. Focus on now and that you want God before all others.

We all have a sinful nature. That has nothing to do with Asperger's. Any one of us can choose to be selfish and and seek to fulfill ourselves rather than seek God. The sinful nature is a curse, not Asperger's.

No one can dictate what your relationship with God is, what your walk is like. Don’t read what other people say it is or isn’t. Read God’s Word. Stay in the Bible. In pray. Today is Good Friday. Read about what happened this day. Find videoed about it. Focus on Christ on the cross today, not on thinking there is no hope.

I am going to Chruch today on Good Friday the Church I mentioned before. I am nervous as I have not been in 15 years. Really have not stepped into a contagion since 2004.

Also on a unrelated note is it better to use your phone as a bible or bring a physical bible?

Awesome!!!!! Perfect day to go back!

Bible is up to you. I love a physical Bible. I was very surprised when I checked out a few churches when I moved here and hardly anyone had a Bible with them.

It's not a punishment from God. In the fuller revelation of the New Testament we know that God is good all the time. He is Light, and no darkness is in Him. And He is love. All sin can be traced back to satan. And that route goes through Adam, through whom sin and death entered the world. We then contribute to the problem, as do our parents and others. This constitutes "the world, the flesh and the devil" 1John talks about.

But the atonement Christ purchased on your behalf is greater than all of them. Jesus came "to destroy the works of the devil". This is why He could look at that man born blind in John 9 and see an opportunity for the glory of God rather than assigning blame.

As for your backsliding, it is because like all of us, your faith was not perfected. Abraham's wasn't either, at first. Twice he consigned his wife to grave danger to protect himself. But God did not bail on him. He worked with Abraham and raised him up in faith, until finally he passed the test of willingness to sacrifice his own son. He will do the same for you. Let Him. Refuse to be your own worst enemy.

As for returning to church, church is a house for people who are yet imperfect and need mutual encouragement. Try to find one that has that humble attitude, and that is faithful to the Word as well. Easter is a good time to go back, because the place will be swelled with visitors and you probably will have the opportunity to remain relatively unnoticed.

If you need a Bible at church, bring the actual book. Think about it: Cell phones do not belong in church sanctuaries anyway because the focus should be on a pastor's message.

I totally agree. But I know around here using the Bible on your phone is encouraged. Maybe because they don’t think people will bring a physical one. Idk but I find it very strange.

Aspergers isn't a curse. I have it and it can be a blessing in many ways.

But I know how you feel... The best advice I can give is to try not to care. God knows you and he loves you. If you mess up in social situations or come off as awkward in church, who cares? You're going to heaven anyways and God is by your side. Everyone in the world can turn their back on you but God never will. He knows you more than anyone else. Just try to remember that, that is what I do. If someone doesn't like you, love them still and don't be phased by it. I still get very nervous for social events but remembering this helps a bit. Sometimes it helps to make a scenario in my head for the event I am going to like I'm in a movie or something and I'm playing a confident and notable person, this helps me with job interviews especially. There are many little tricks and tips that can help. I am still nervous though, the social anxiety part never went away completely with me but there are things we can do to manage it. :)

Thanks but as nervous as I am I will use my mobile Bible for now but will bring my printed Bible to. Church soon.
If you feel more comfortable with the mobile version then use it! There's no right or wrong way to read God's word.
