Hi Family,

I was told recently that we are supposed to portray God always in a good light.

If God brings light; yet He biblically brings destruction also... is it also fair to say He is a god of justice?

Light...provided us Jesus and salvation.

Justice: Sodom and Ghmorrah; the Red Sea; Noah and the flood...etc

Isaiah says 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness; I make peace, and create evil; I, the Lord, do all these things.

So do we ALWAYS have to portray Him in a good light or can we also tell it like it is as He is also the god of Justice?

Is justice not a good thing?
To some it is cruel and evil and they avoid addressing this part of God.

We can still respect God and say He is loving but it comes in the form of punshment sometimes. We dont only have to focus on His bright side.

Because he does things out of love, even when it looks harsh

Well I would hope such people were never the victim of a crime.

Well I would hope no one is the victim of a crime but hopefully you get my point.

What do you mean?
I was explaining to someone that God not only brings hope but He also brings distruction ie sodom. It is seen as God being evil to him. We dont always have to place God as the lovey dovey one because He is also responsible for destruction.

Isn't saying God is responsible for creating evil Blasphemy?

I agree. But justice is not always seen as a positive thing when it comes to death of thousands of people.
Often such people point to God telling His people to wipe out the Canaanites. How could a loving God do such a thing?

The canaanites had a practice of sacrificing infants at the altar of Moloch. The altar would be heated up and the infants placed on it to burn to death.

Many of the people that complain that God is cruel for ordering the destruction of the canaanites will also point to suffering in the world and say, "why doesn't God do something about it?" Well here is an instance where He did something and they complain about that.

Point is, if people want to criticize God for something, they'll always manufacture a reason.

Is it cruel or dark to cut out a body part or a cancer among its parts to save the rest?

*Is the surgeon's knife destructive?

I guess it depends on how you look at it. To the liver being cut out it may seem evil. To the bigger picture it is a sacrifice.

I added this:

*Is the surgeon's knife destructive?

Yeah, I can see that...it is a destruction unto life.

*Unlike the enemy's work to destroy for the sake of destruction.

Justice is not just about punishment but can also be restorative.
