&, “As a Christian submits to the solemn rite of baptism, the three highest powers in the universe, --the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, -- place their approval on his act, pledging themselves to exert their power in his behalf as he strives to honor God. ...”

&,The three great powers of heaven pledge themselves to furnish the Christian with all the assistance he requires. The Spirit changes the heart of stone to the heart of flesh. And by partaking of the Word of God, Christians obtain an experience that is after the divine similitude. When Christ abides in the heart by faith, the Christian is the temple of God. Christ does not abide in the heart of the sinner, but in the heart of him who is susceptible to the influences of heaven.”

[“Godhead” after]

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the eternal Godhead ...” - Ms 45, May 14, 1904, par. 16; May 14, 1904

[connected with the words,

Ms 45, May 14, 1904, par. 16 - “The open path, the safe path of walking in the way of His commandments, is a path from which there is no safe departing. And when men follow their own human theories dressed up in soft, fascinating representations, they make a snare in which to catch souls. In the place of devoting your powers to theorizing, Christ has given you a work to do. His commission is, Go through and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Before the disciples shall compass the threshold, there is to be the imprint of the sacred name, baptizing the believers in the name of the threefold powers in the heavenly world. The human mind is impressed in this ceremony, the beginning of the Christian life. It means very much. The work of salvation is not a small matter, but so vast that the highest authorities are taken hold of by the expressed faith of the human agency. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, the eternal Godhead is involved in the action required to make assurance to the human agent to unite all heaven to contribute to the exercise of human faculties to reach and embrace the fulness of the threefold powers to unite in the great work appointed, confederating the heavenly powers with the human, that men may become, through heavenly efficiency, partakers of the divine nature and workers together with Christ.”

God would make it impossible for man to say that He could have done more. With Christ He gave all the resources of heaven, that nothing might be wanting in the plan for man's uplifting. Here is love--the contemplation of which should fill the soul with inexpressible gratitude! [-6]

Our life is to be bound up with the life of Christ. Henceforth the believer is to bear in mind that he is dedicated to God, to Christ, and to the Holy Spirit. He is to make all worldly considerations secondary to this new relation. Publicly he has declared that he will no longer live in pride and self-indulgence. [99] He is no longer to live a careless, indifferent life. He has made a covenant with God. He has died to the world. He is to live to the Lord, to use for Him all his entrusted capabilities, never losing the realization that he bears God's signature, that he is a subject of Christ's kingdom, a partaker of the divine nature. He is to surrender to God all that he is and all that he has, employing all his gifts to His name's glory. {6T 98.3}

The obligations in the spiritual agreement entered into at baptism are mutual. As human beings act their part with wholehearted obedience, they have a right to pray: "Let it be known, Lord, that Thou art God in Israel." The fact that you have been baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is an assurance that, if you will claim Their help, these powers will help you in every emergency. The Lord will hear and answer the prayers of His sincere followers who wear Christ's yoke and learn in His school His meekness and lowliness.”]
This list will briefly pause here, and continue in the next post with matters of the Holy Ghost/Spirit.

The Holy Spirit exalts and glorifies the Saviour. It is his office to present Christ, the purity of his righteousness, and the great salvation that we have through him. “Science is too limited to comprehend the atonement; the mysterious and wonderful plan of redemption is so far-reaching that philosophy cannot explain it; it will ever remain a mystery that the most profound reason cannot fathom. If it could be explained by finite wisdom, it would lose its sacredness and dignity. It is a mystery that One equal with the eternal Father should so abase himself as to suffer the cruel death of the cross to ransom man; and it is a mystery that God so loved the world as to permit his Son to make this great sacrifice. The Holy Spirit exalts and glorifies the Saviour. It is his office to present Christ, the great salvation that we have through him, and the sacred, elevated purity of his righteousness. Says Christ, "He shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you." The Spirit of truth is the only effectual teacher of divine truth; those who are taught of him have entered the school of Christ. How must God esteem the race, that he gave his Son to die for them, and appoints his Spirit to be man's teacher and continual guide. Satan understands this, and he lays his plans to mar and wound man, the workmanship of God, and to prevent him from enjoying the happiness that this great rebel lost through his disobedience and malice.”]

[“Cumbered ...” after “divested”]

The Holy Spirit is Christ's representative, but divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally. Therefore it was for their interest that He should go to the Father, and send the Spirit to be His successor on earth. No one could then have any advantage because of his location or his personal contact with Christ. By the Spirit the Saviour would be accessible to all. “Before this the Spirit had been in the world; from the very beginning of the work of redemption He had been moving upon men's hearts. But while Christ was on earth, the disciples had desired no other helper. Not until they were deprived of His presence would they feel their need of the Spirit, and then He would come. {DA 669.1}

The Holy Spirit is Christ's representative, but divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally. Therefore it was for their interest that He should go to the Father, and send the Spirit to be His successor on earth. No one could then have any advantage because of his location or his personal contact with Christ. By the Spirit the Saviour would be accessible to all. In this sense He would be nearer to them than if He had not ascended on high. {DA 669.2}

"He that loveth Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will love him, and will manifest Myself to him." Jesus read the future of His disciples. He saw one brought to the scaffold, one to the cross, one to exile among the lonely rocks of the sea, others to persecution and death. He encouraged them with the promise that in every trial He would be with them. That promise has lost none of its force. The Lord knows all about His faithful servants who for His sake are lying in prison or who are banished to lonely islands. He comforts them with His own presence. When for the truth's sake the believer stands at the bar of unrighteous tribunals, Christ stands by his side. All the reproaches that fall upon him, fall upon Christ. Christ is condemned over again in the person of His disciple. When one is incarcerated in prison walls, Christ ravishes the heart with His love. When one suffers death for His sake, Christ says, "I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, . . . and have the keys of hell and of death." Revelation 1:18. The life that is sacrificed for Me is preserved unto eternal glory. {DA 669.3}

At all times and in all places, in all sorrows and in all afflictions, when the outlook seems dark and the future perplexing, and we feel helpless and alone, the Comforter will be sent in answer to the prayer of [670] faith. Circumstances may separate us from every earthly friend; but no circumstance, no distance, can separate us from the heavenly Comforter. Wherever we are, wherever we may go, He is always at our right hand to support, sustain, uphold, and cheer. {DA 669.4}

The disciples still failed to understand Christ's words in their spiritual sense, and again He explained His meaning. By the Spirit, He said, He would manifest Himself to them. "The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things." No more will you say, I cannot comprehend. No longer will you see through a glass, darkly. You shall "be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge." Ephesians 3:18, 19. {DA 670.1}”]

Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally; therefore it was altogether for their advantage that he should leave them, go to his Father, and send the Holy Spirit to be his successor on earth. The Holy Spirit is himself, divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. &The Holy Spirit is an effective helper in restoring the image of God in the human soul, but Its efficiency and power have not been appreciated in our schools. It came into the schools of the prophets, bringing even the thoughts into harmony with the will of God. There was a living connection between heaven and these schools; [68] and the joy and thanksgiving of loving hearts found expression in songs of praise in which angels joined. {CT 67.3}

The Holy Spirit has often come to our schools and has not been recognized, but has been treated as a stranger, perhaps even as an intruder. Every teacher should know and welcome this heavenly Guest. If the teachers will open their own hearts to receive the Spirit, they will be prepared to co-operate with It in working for their students. And when It is given free course, It will effect wonderful transformations. It will work in each heart, correcting selfishness, molding and refining the character, and bringing even the thoughts into captivity to Christ.”]

Ms 158 December 7, 1898 - ““The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” There is a multitude of errors in our world, but the truth is a unit always. Those who cherish the truth in the heart will manifest its sanctifying power; for true faith works by love and purifies the soul. “Nevertheless, I tell you the truth,” Christ declared, “It is expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.”

This was the arrangement of the divine government. Christ's ascension was the event which in heaven's order was to mark the descent of the Holy Spirit. A vital work was to be carried on. The world's Redeemer designed to show His followers on earth His union with the Father and with man.

“If ye love me, keep my commandments,” Christ continued. “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father; and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”

During the whole Jewish economy the influence of this Spirit has often been revealed in a marked manner, but not in full. The Spirit had been waiting for the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension of Christ. For ages prayers had been offered for the fulfillment of the promise, for the impartation of the Spirit; and not one of these earnest supplications had been forgotten. Now for ten days the disciples sent up their petitions, and Christ in heaven added His intercession. He claimed the gift of the Spirit, that He might pour it out upon His people. He ascended on high, leading captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Having reached His throne, the Spirit was given as He had promised, and like a rushing, mighty wind, it fell upon those assembled, filling the whole house. It came with a fullness and power, as if for ages it had been restrained, but was now poured forth upon the church, to be communicated to the world.

What followed this outpouring? Thousands were converted in a day.”]

The work of the Holy Spirit is immeasurably great. It is from this source that power and efficiency come to the worker for God; and the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, as the personal presence of Christ to the soul. He who looks to Christ in simple, childlike faith is made a partaker of the divine nature through the agency of the Holy Spirit. When led by the Spirit of God, the Christian may know that he is made complete in Him who is the head of all things. As Christ was glorified on the day of Pentecost, so will He again be glorified in the closing work of the gospel, when He shall prepare a people to stand the final test in the closing conflict of the great controversy.]

"Brethren should not feel that it is a virtue to stand apart because they do not see all minor points in exactly the same light. If on fundamental truths they are at agreement, they should not differ and dispute about matters of little real importance. To dwell on perplexing questions that after all are of no vital importance, has a direct tendency to call the mind away from truths which are vital to the saving of the soul. ...

... It is not essential for you to know and be able to define just what the Holy Spirit is. Christ tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Comforter, and the Comforter is the Holy Ghost, “the Spirit of truth, which the Father shall send in my name.” [John 14:26.] “I will pray the Father, and he shall send you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; but ye know him, for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” [John 14:16, 17.] This refers to the omnipresence of the Spirit of Christ, called the Comforter. Again Jesus says, “I have many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth.” [John 16:12, 13.]

There are many mysteries which I do not seek to understand or to explain; they are too high for me, and too high for you. On some of these points, silence is golden. Piety, devotion, sanctification of soul, body, and spirit—this is essential for us all. “This is life eternal, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” [John 17:3.] “This is the will of him that sent me, that every one that seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life.” [John 6:40.]" - Lt 7, 1891 (June 11, 1891) par. 14

[Entry 45] [2 entries] [2 original sources]

"... That Christ should manifest Himself to them, and yet be invisible to the world, was a mystery to the disciples. They could not understand the words of Christ in their spiritual sense. They were thinking of the outward, visible manifestation. They could not take in the fact that they could have the presence of Christ with them, and yet He be unseen by the world. They did not understand the meaning of a spiritual manifestation.

The great Teacher longed to give to the disciples all the encouragement and comfort possible, for they were to be sorely tried. But it was difficult for them to comprehend His words. They had yet to learn that the inward spiritual life, all fragrant with the obedience of love, would give them the spiritual power they needed.

The promise of the Comforter presented a rich truth to them. It assured them that they should not lose their faith under the most trying circumstances. The Holy Spirit, sent in the name of Christ, was to teach them all things, and bring all things to their remembrance. The Holy Spirit was to be the representative of Christ, the Advocate who is constantly pleading for the fallen race. He pleads that spiritual power may be given to them, that by the power of One mightier than all the enemies of God and man, they may be able to overcome their spiritual foes.

He who knows the end from the beginning has provided for the attack of satanic agencies. And He will fulfil His word to the faithful in every age. That word is sure and steadfast; not one jot or tittle of it can fail. If men will keep under the protection of God, His banner will be over them as an impregnable fortress. He will give evidence that His Word can never fail. He will prove a light which shineth in a dark place until the day dawn. He, the Sun of Righteousness, will arise with healing in His beams.

The very image of God is to be impressed upon, and reflected in, humanity. The cold heart is to be quickened and glow with divine love—a love that beats in union with the love the Redeemer has evidenced for you. No longer shall you complain that you cannot understand, for your Teacher has ascended to heaven, and His first interest is to advocate the cause of all who believe in Him. He has assured you that the Holy Spirit was given to abide with you forever, to be your pleader and your guide. He asks you to trust in Him, and commit yourself into His keeping. The Holy Spirit is constantly at work, teaching, reminding, testifying, coming to the soul as a divine Comforter, and convincing of sin as an appointed Judge and Guide.

Christ was the Spirit of truth. The world would not listen to His pleadings. They would not accept Him as their guide. They could not discern unseen things; spiritual things were unknown to them. But His disciples see in Him the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And they shall have His abiding presence. They shall have an experimental knowledge of the only true God and of Jesus Christ whom He has sent. To them He says, You will no more say, I cannot comprehend. No longer shall you see through a glass darkly; you shall comprehend with all saints what is the length and depth and breadth and height of the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge. He who has begun a good work in you will perform it unto the day of Christ Jesus.

The honor of God, the honor of Jesus Christ, is involved in the perfection of your character. Your work is to co-operate with Christ, that you may be complete in Him. In being united to Him by faith, believing and receiving Him, you become part of Himself. Your character is His glory revealed in you. And when you shall appear in His presence, you will find the benediction awaiting you, “Well done, good and faithful servant, thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make you ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.”

Christ seeks to make the lessons which they [His disciples] do not understand, as clear as possible to their befogged minds. But the time is not far distant when every word will be made plain. Then that which Jesus has spoken to them, and which they could not grasp, is clearly comprehended as living truth.

The thought that their Teacher was going to leave them filled the disciples with sorrow; but He comforted them with the assurance that He was coming again to take them to the place He would prepare for them. He assured them that if He went not away, He could not provide them with an Advocate: that if they only knew of the future blessings that were to come because of His departure, they would not mourn; they would rejoice in the presence of the Holy Spirit who was to be with them always. He told them that if He went not away, they could not do a greater work. But that deprived of His personal presence, by faith they would see and know Him, and by continuance in His love, by showing their appreciation of the truth by revealing to others what the truth is; in obeying His commandments and bearing a living, vital testimony; in doing His work that He had left in their hands, carrying it forward to completion, they would become representatives of Christ. ..." - Ms 44, 1897 (May 13, 1897) par. 8

What did Ellen believe regarding ... the Holy Spirit? ...
[Entry 46] [2 entries] [2 original sources]

"... Again He says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth [not deception]; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not [Jesus, the author of truth], neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” [John 14:15-17.] What is the work of the Comforter? “And when he is come, he will”—praise, flatter, exalt? No;—“he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.” [John 16:8-14.]

The believers in all ages are to be one, and the Holy Spirit is the living essence that cements, animates, and pervades the whole body of Christ’s followers. The duties devolving on the members of Christ’s church are tasks set by the Lord, and although each one of the workers is but an atom, a fraction of the stupendous fabric, inhabited by the Holy Spirit, how sacred, how holy do these duties appear! The Jews had an appointed guard whose duty it was to watch the temple night and day, and although the guard was made up of a large number of men, each one felt that he was under obligation to stand in his lot and place; for he was entrusted with a solemn charge. Suppose that the numerous body of guards had been dismissed, and the whole burden of responsibility had been placed upon one man, and that [it was] at a time when particular danger was near because of the efforts of a vigilant foe. This would be presumption. Would not the solitary guard be liable to be overcome because overcharged? Thank God, important interests are not to rest on one man’s mind or one man’s judgment. Every soul is to be on the alert to catch every sound, to note every movement on the part of the enemy that would endanger his God-given charge. This is the spirit that should characterize every worker at the Health Retreat, for each one of you is entrusted with a sacred responsibility, that you may help one another, strengthen one another in keeping the fort. There is to be a building one another up in the most holy faith, and no one is to receive the least sanction in tearing others down. The Holy Spirit must abide upon every worker, else he that watcheth keepeth his watch in vain.

Let every one do his work as unto God and not unto man. Let your conduct accord with the sacred trust that has been given you. This you may do, for the foundation of life has been opened for you, and principles of a new and heavenly order are to control your spirit and actions. Let not anyone receive the impression that a confederacy may safely be formed with worldlings. Confidences are not to be encouraged with those who are enemies of Christ. No compromise can be made with the enemy. Are you sentinels for God? Then be careful lest you betray God’s people into the enemy’s hands. Satan is seeking to insinuate some scheme that will result in separating God from the workers, but I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Let every one stand in his lot and place, and do the part assigned him with unwavering fidelity, and he will see and realize the fulfilment of the gracious designs of the Lord.” If you become restless, as did Abraham and Sarah, and work up plans of your own in order to bring about God’s promises, a condition of things which you deem desirable after your own ways and ideas, you will find that it will result in sorrow, misery, and sin.

Jesus comes to you as the Spirit of truth; study the mind of the Spirit, consult your Lord, follow His way. If you yield to the dictates of the mind and flesh, your spirit will lose its proper character and balance, and you fail to discern and cannot appreciate moral power. Then you will seek to carry out the maxims of worldlings. Their voices are heard on every side, Here is the path of success. Your mind will, if you follow their suggestions, be deceived, carnalized, and you will esteem the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit as less than human invention. God calls upon you to close the door to human inventions and to open the door to divine illumination. Be careful that you do not resist the Spirit of God in its office work upon the temple of the soul. Be determined to please God, to magnify His name, to enjoy the sweet influence of His grace.

Every element of your nature is to be dedicated to God; lay not one attribute upon the altar of Satan. There is none too much of any of the workers, be they possessed of large or small talents, to render themselves to God that they may be sanctified and fitted for His service. Give all you have and are, and it is all nothing without the merit of the blood that sanctifies the gift. Could those who hold responsible positions multiply their talents a thousandfold, their service would have no worth before God unless Christ was mingled with all their offerings. Let all the glory of what is accomplished redound to the glory of God; it belongs to Him. The world cannot discern Jesus; then let me not be anxious to unite with the world, lest I, too, become blind as the worldling, so that I cannot see the beauty of the truth. By beholding, by studying the ambitious plans and projects of the world, I become more and more favorable to their methods, and become willing to listen to the suggestions of the enemy and to take the bribes of Satan, when I should instantly reject them as did Jesus when He was tempted.

There are some who talk in a regretful way concerning the restraints that the religion of the Bible imposes upon those who would follow its teachings. They seem to think that restraint is a great disadvantage, but we have reason to thank God with all our heart that He has raised a heavenly barrier between us and the ground of the enemy. There are certain tendencies of the natural heart that many think must be followed in order that the best development of the individual may result, but that which man thinks essential God sees would not be the blessing to humanity which men imagine, for the development of these very traits of character would unfit them for the mansions above. The Lord places men under test and trial that the dross may be separated from the gold; but He forces none. He does not bind with fetters and cords and barriers, for they increase disaffection rather than decrease it. The remedy for evil is found in Christ as an indwelling Saviour. But in order that Christ may be in the soul, it must first be emptied of self, then there is a vacuum created that may be supplied by the Holy Spirit. ..." - Ms 8c, 1891 (July 26, 1891) par. 14

"The Lord is soon to come. We want that complete and perfect understanding which the Lord alone can give. It is not safe to catch the spirit from another. We want the Holy Spirit, which is Jesus Christ. If we commune with God, we shall have strength and grace and efficiency." - Lt 66, 1894 (April 10, 1894) par. 18

"Christ said to His disciples, “If I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.” [John 16:7.] After Christ’s ascension, the disciples were joyful, not because He had left them, but because He had ascended to stand in the presence of His Father, that He might secure for His waiting, praying, watching Church on earth the gift of the Holy Spirit. And while the disciples were praying in an upper chamber, the Saviour’s promise was verified. The Comforter came to the bereaved Church, and the apostles became mighty in power as the Holy Spirit rested upon them. God’s chosen messengers “out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.” [Hebrews 11:34.]

Christ is to be known by the blessed name of Comforter. “The Comforter,” said Christ to His disciples, “which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you, Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” [John 14:26, 27.] ..." - Ms 7, 1902 (January 26, 1902) par. 10

"... The Holy Spirit is the molding power. “Without me,” said Christ, “ye can do nothing.” But let the Holy Spirit take hold of heart and character, and all who will heed its voice will be lights in the world. Further passages may be cited in future, as time allows. Keep in mind that there are "three holiest beings", the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost/Spirit. Keep in mind the words "representative", "appointed", "office", "in Christ's name [ie character]", "take of mine [Christ's]", in regards the Holy Ghost/Spirit, etc. We shall move onto some scriptural texts, and some more evidences therein in combination with the cited SOP/TOJ above.

What did she believe about God?
She believed her Bible which states:

“...Yet no man has a right to add to or subtract from any other book written by inspiration of God. ...” - Early Writings, p. 137.3 or Spiritual Gifts. Volume 1, p. 9.4

"... A familiar acquaintance with the Scriptures sharpens the discerning powers and fortifies the soul against the attacks of Satan. The Bible is the sword of the Spirit, which will never fail to vanquish the adversary. It is the only true guide in all matters of faith and practice. The reason why Satan has so great control over the minds and hearts of men is that they have not [90] made the Word of God the man of their counsel, and all their ways have not been tried by the true test. The Bible will show us what course we must pursue to become heirs of glory.--RH Jan 4, 1881. (HC 31.) ..." - The (Advent) Review and (Sabbath) Herald, January 4, 1881

“... My brethren in the Lord, I am instructed to say that you must raise the standard of piety and truth and holiness higher, still higher. Compare [-171-] scripture with scripture. Encourage the people to study their Bibles. Nearly all have the common version, and the words are so simple and plain that all who read may understand. Let the Scriptures be read freely in the family and in the pulpit. The men who wrote the books of the Bible were inspired of God, and the words of Holy Writ are for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. {20MR 170.5} ...” - Manuscript Releases Volume 20, 170.5

What did Ellen believe regarding ... the Holy Spirit? ...
Sister White wrote:

"... The Holy Spirit exalts and glorifies the Saviour. It is his office to present Christ, the great salvation that we have through him, and the sacred, elevated purity of his righteousness. Says Christ, “He shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.” The Spirit of truth is the only effectual teacher of divine truth; those who are taught of him have entered the school of Christ. ..." - The Signs of the Times April 3, 1884 paragraph 7

"... The Holy Spirit is the Comforter, in Christ’s name. He personifies Christ, yet is a distinct personality. ..." - Ms 93, 1893, par. 8

"... These words present God and Christ as two distinct personalities ..." - Ms 181, 1905, par. 15
*******
Here's what ex-SDA D.M. Canright said of the Holy Ghost/Spirit:

The Holy Spirit is not a person, not an individual, but is an influence or power proceeding from the Godhead.” - D. M. Canright, “The Holy Spirit,” Signs of the Times, July 25, 1878, 218; D. M. Canright, “The Holy Spirit,” Signs of the Times, August 8, 1878, 236.
Here is what the SOP/TOJ says:

"... The Holy Spirit has a personality, else He could not bear witness to our spirits and with our spirits that we are the children of God. He must also be a divine person ..." - Ms 20, 1906 (February 7, 1906) par. 32

"... We have been brought together as a school, and we need to realize that the Holy Spirit, who is as much a person as God is a person, is walking through these grounds, unseen by human eyes, that the Lord God is our Keeper and Helper. He hears every word we utter and knows every thought of the mind. Ms66-1899 (April 13, 1899) par. 11 ..." - Ms 66, 1899 (April 13, 1899) par. 11

"... Before this the Spirit had been in the world; from the very beginning of the work of redemption He had been moving upon men's hearts. But while Christ was on earth, the disciples had desired no other helper. Not until they were deprived of His presence would they feel their need of the Spirit, and then He would come. {DA 669.1}

The Holy Spirit is Christ's representative, but divested of the personality of humanity, and independent thereof. Cumbered with humanity, Christ could not be in every place personally. Therefore it was for their interest that He should go to the Father, and send the Spirit to be His successor on earth. No one could then have any advantage because of his location or his personal contact with Christ. By the Spirit the Saviour would be accessible to all. In this sense He would be nearer to them than if He had not ascended on high. {DA 669.2} ..." - The Desire of Ages, p. 669.1 - 669.2
Notice that there are two persons involved there, two beings, the one, the Holy Ghost/Spirit, sent by Jesus, from the Father, to be His [Jesus'] representative on earth, in "Christ's name", as cited elsewhere.

[1] Holy Ghost is not cumbered by humanity, that is the human flesh.

[2] Jesus is cumbered by humanity, that is the human flesh.
Notice again the two, the plural, not singular:

"... they talk about Christ and about the Holy Spirit, yet receive no benefit. They do not surrender the soul to be guided and controlled by the divine agencies. ..." - The Desire of Ages, p. 672.1
Jesus is not representing Himself.

In fact, it was the Holy Ghost that was taking the teaching of Christ Jesus and applying such to the hearts of the disciples/apostles, etc. They two were working together, even as they did with the Father above.

John N. Andrews, Seventh-day Adventist
The doctrine of the Trinity which was established in the church by the council of Nice A. D. 325. This doctrine destroys the personality of God and his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. The infamous, measures by which it was forced upon the church which appear upon the pages of ecclesiastical history might well cause every believer in that doctrine to blush.” — (J.N. Andrews, Review and Herald, March 6, 1855)

Was he another false teacher?
No, he, J. N. Andrews, was not a false teacher, but those who run that website are, and promoted therein, including the non-SDA (and heretic) Nader Mansour (he's independent, not an official member of the Seventh-day Adventist movement and carries some serious heresy), as well as the others in association, such as the heretics (I use this term theologically and in sadness) 'Dr.' Allen Davis, and Daniel Mesa and others, whom have been disfellowshipped due to their errors after counselling by their brethren on numerous occasions, including from myself (over a period of several months), etc.

What J.N. Andrews was arguing against, was the false definition as given by Roman Catholicism, see here for examples - Non-Trinitarian - The Trinity and Non-trinitarians

Again, please do not get your information from half-baked websites which quote older and immature citations from James White, etc, who began as a member of Christian Connexion (arian), but later was in full harmony with all the citations above in the SoP/ToJ (Spirit of Prophecy/Testimony of Jesus), with his wife, sister White and the Seventh-day Adventist movement, and to be sure, go read James White for yourself in the (Advent) Review and (Sabbath) Herald over the years. James White grew out of His Arian errors which he held from youth from being in the Christian Connexion brerthren. That website makes no distinction in the years they are citing. Go to the pure sources. The Ellen G. White estate website contains all the information on the writings and materials of not only sister White, but also the Pioneers, et in the movement. And it is all freely accessible online, using the search function -

Or if you would like some indepth study of those sources, here are some excellent Adventist sources - Link

If you aren't an Adventist
I know you were speaking to another, but I will answer also, so that the matter is clear, as I am an officially recognized member of the Seventh-day Adventist movement, and have been for about the past 10 years or so.

... BTW, are you a Trinitarian?
In the sense of the definition as given by the Roman Catholic dogma? No, as it is definitionally in error.

However, if one means in the sense of three eternal existant divine Persons/Beings (the Person/Being of the Father, the Person/Being of the Son (Jesus) and the Person/Being of the Holy Ghost/Spirit) working together in harmony, then, Yes.

Roman Catholicisms definition does not include a body for the Father and Son, but instead vaporizes their "form", "shape", "likeness", "image", etc., which is gross error, and because of that meld not only those two, but also the third. There are also the errors of eternal generation and eternal spiration.

I tore into no one and I don't believe you set the rules for this site.
I can agree with you here, in that I do not see any 'tearing' into, but what I do see, is misguided information (website), which brought about the questions.

Hopefully I have answered your questions, and would not mind so further answering additional questions on the topic. I am fully studied on this matter and prepared to answer with official citations.

So the Holy Spirit went from being called "IT" to being "HE."
The Holy Ghost is called both in scripture (KJB), as is Jesus.

Some stumble over the Holy Spirit being called “it”, and by this claim that He is only a force, a power, a non-intelligence. Yet, they should also recognize that Jesus was called “it” [Revelation 12:4 KJB], “child” [Revelation 12:2,4,5 KJB], “holy thing” [Luke 1:35 KJB] and “holy child” [Acts 4:27,30 KJB], all of which are also neuter gender. Jesus is still a person and masculine. The wicked angels are also called “it” [Luke 8:29, 9:39, 11:14, etc. KJB], but they too are intelligent [though created] beings and cited in the masculine. Neuter terms do not automatically mean inanimate, for instance, the terms “child”, “babe”, “person”, “mail-carrier”, “flight attendant”, etc.

Even the Father is called by a neuter term in scripture if you really look. I'll let you look first.

Well, you got carried away and I don't intend to read all that.
I did not get carried away, but provided detailed and unarguable documentation and evidence, and so is for any who decide to come look later, even if you do not read it presently. I cannot afford to leave the matter half way done, for if I leave, it must be able to stand.

Thank you for post 32, but I've lost interest I think.
You are welcome. I do not mind questions in future if you feel it necessary, just grab my attention.

So if some of the founders knew the Catholic Dogma was false, they decided to keep with it anyway, or ignore it calling it vanity. They chose to retain the tag Trinitarian knowing it was misleading. It's not just a tag though, but pertains to the metaphysical nature of Christ and God. Holy Spirit(Gnostic God?)

James White denounced the 'definition' of the commonly held 'trinity' as "unscriptural", which definition included a three-headed hydra for God, a melding of the 3 Persons, which is "unscriptural".

Notice:

What many 'pioneers' fought in regards the word “trinity”, was not the word so much or per se, but/as the Roman Catholic definition of it “without body or parts”, “one substance”, “three one being”, etc. consider:

J. B. F.:

“... If it be said that the Spirit of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost is one Spirit, with this we all agree. But if it be said that the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost are three persons in one person, making in all one God without body or parts, with an idea so inconsistent we cannot agree. ARSH March 12, 1857, p. 146.18

The oneness of Christ with the Father may be plainly seen by any one who will refer to John 17:22. “That they (that believe) may be one, even as we are one.” Who could believe that Christ prayed that his disciples should be one disciple? Yet this would be no more inconsistent than the idea of some that Christ and his Father are one person. ARSH March 12, 1857, p. 146.19

In accordance with the doctrine that three very and eternal Gods are but one God, how may we reconcile Matthew 3:16, 17. Jesus was baptized, Spirit of God descended like a dove, and the Father’s voice heard from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, etc. The Father in heaven, the Son on earth, the Spirit of God descending from one to the other. Who could ever suppose for a moment that these three were one person without body or parts, unless it was by early training. See other texts which appear equally absurd, if such doctrine be true. Matthew 28:18; Acts 10:38. “How God anointed Jesus with the Holy Ghost,” etc. First person takes the third person and anoints the second person with a person being at the same time one with himself. ARSH March 12, 1857, p. 146.20

That three are one, and one are three,
Is an idea that puzzles me
;
By many a learned sage ‘tis said
That three are one in the Godhead. ARSH March 12, 1857, p. 146.21

The Father then may be the Son,
For both together make but one;
The Son may likewise be the Father,
Without the smallest change of either. ARSH March 12, 1857, p. 146.22

Yea, and the blessed Spirit be
The Father, Son and trinity
;
This is the creed of Christian folks,
Who style themselves true orthodox,
All which against plain common sense,
We must believe or give offense.”
J. B. F. ARSH March 12, 1857, p. 146.23 ...” - Advent Review, and Sabbath Herald, vol. 9 March 12, 1857, page 146 par. 20 (under Uriah Smith)

R. F. C. [could be Roswell Fenner Cottrell, reporting on a “Disciple” meeting]:

“... BRO. SMITH: Some weeks since, Bro. Wheeler preached a number of discourses at the Disciples’ house in Lancaster, Erie Co. N. Y., which had the effect to call forth an appointment from a Disciple preacher on the Sabbath question. At the time appointed I found myself at liberty to attend, but learned that the minister had preached his promised discourse a week previous to the time appointed. However, another preacher was present, and I remained to hear on another subject. ARSH November 19, 1857, p. 13.7

The Disciples have, from their very first introduction in this part of the country, stoutly advocated the no-Sabbath doctrine. You may therefore conceive something of my surprise, when, at the close of their Sunday school, the minister gave out a hymn commencing: ARSH November 19, 1857, p. 13.8

This day belongs to God alone,
This day he chooses for his own;
And we must neither work nor play,
Because it is God’s holy day.” ARSH November 19, 1857, p. 13.9

To hear those who have repeatedly affirmed that there was no holy time under the gospel dispensation, and could not be all over the habitable surface of this revolving globe, now teaching the young that Sunday is God’s holy day, might well produce astonishment. I could scarcely help wishing to revise the next verse, for their use, as follows: ARSH November 19, 1857, p. 13.10

‘Tis well to have one day in seven
To think of God and Christ and heaven;
Since God divorced his day of rest,
We take the day the Popes have blest. ARSH November 19, 1857, p. 13.11

The discourse was on the subject of man’s nature and destiny. The speaker made a very just distinction between destruction and annihilation, but represented his opponents as teaching that the wicked will be annihilated, whereas we only affirm that they will be burned up root and branch, and be ashes under the feet of the righteous. If this is true, (and who will deny it, since the word of God affirms it,) they certainly will have no conscious existence, unless ashes have. As persons they will not be, i.e. they will not exist; but this is not saying that their dust will not exist. ARSH November 19, 1857, p. 13.12

He proceeded to affirm that “man is a triune being,” consisting of body, soul and spirit. I never heard a Disciple confess faith in the doctrine of the trinity; but why not, if man consists of three persons in one person? especially, since man was made in the image of God? But the image he said, was a moral likeness. So man may be a triune being without proving that God is. But does he mean that one man is three men? I might say that a tree consists of body, bark and leaves, and no one perhaps would dispute it. But if I should affirm that each tree consists of three trees, the assertion would possibly be doubted by some. But if all admitted that one tree is three trees, I might then affirm that there were ninety trees in my orchard, when no one could count but thirty. I might then proceed and say, I have ninety trees in my orchard, and as each tree consists of three trees, I have two hundred and seventy. So if one man is three men, you may multiply him by three as often as you please. But if it takes body, soul and spirit to make one perfect, living man; then separate these, and the man is unmade. ARSH November 19, 1857, p. 13.13 ...” - Advent Review, and Sabbath Herald, vol. 11 November 19, 1857, page 13 par. 13 (under Uriah Smith)

Joseph H. Waggoner:

"... The position that he is to occupy—the government that he is to hold—sufficiently identify the person here referred to as the Son of God, the Messiah. The wonder has been how he who is the Prince of Peace can be called “the everlasting Father.” It cannot represent him in any relation to “the Trinity,” as some have supposed, for the Father is uniformly considered “the first person,” while the Prince of Peace, he who appeared as the Son of David, and Heir to his throne, is as uniformly held to be the second person. If it should be claimed that he is both Father and Son in the Trinity, then it is evident there could be no Trinity, as he would be but one person with two names. It appears evident that this prophecy has no reference to any such doctrine, but refers to him as a Father in a different sense. FEE 249.2 ..." - From Eden to Eden, p. 249.2; 1890 (Joseph H. Waggoner)

[Joseph H. Waggoner is right about the Father being a Father, the Son being a Father [and the Holy Ghost is also a Father], but in differing senses:

The Ancient of Days [Daniel 7:9,13,22 KJB] is The Heavenly Father which is "Our Father who art in Heaven ..." [Matthew 6:9; Luke 11:2; KJB etc.]

The Son, Jesus Christ is also a Father [Isaiah 9:6 KJB], see Matthew 2:13-15; Hosea 11:1 [He is true Israel, and as true Israel, he has children, even twelve tribes [James 1:1 KJB], see Revelation 7:3-8; 14:1-5 KJB], then turn to Hebrews 2:9-13; Isaiah 8:8-20 [which Hebrews quotes, see Hebrews 2:13; Isaiah 8:18 KJB], for His disciples are His "children" that the Father gave unto Him [see also John 13:33 KJB].

The Holy Ghost/Spirit is also a Father, for Christ Jesus was born of the Holy Ghost; see Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:35 KJB, and we as Christians are "babes", even "born again" [1 Peter 1:23 KJB] of the Holy Ghost [John 3:3,5,6,7,8 KJB], and thus we are "born of God", the Holy Ghost [John 1:13; 1 John 3:9, 4:7, 5:1,4,18 KJB]

They are all Fathers, but not the same person/being, nor in the same manner. They are all Creators [in fact there is a bible verse which is plural and says 'Makers' [Ecclesiastes 12:1 HOT & so-called LXX]], and thus they are all Head over all creation [body]. The early pioneers didn't understand all of that and were digging into the truths which we now have. Why then go back to the error that thy were in and fighting with? We must go forward, not backward, neither to the left, nor to the right!]

What is really being argued against? The word, or definition of the word?
In order to be God all three have to be one and the same being or essence. The RCC has always taught that they are three distinct persons while one in being.

Of course not... you mischaracterized White and lacked facts about her beliefs. Now proven wrong with an incredible amount of proof, you'll just close your eyes and stick your fingers in your ears and keep throwing darts until something hits. You just proved, with your response, that you aren't seeking truth.... rather... your mission is to stir the pot even after being proven wrong. Very sad!
