Not surprising.

Right-Wing Extremism Is Still the Biggest Threat to National Security

A new report out from the Anti-Defamation League documents a sharp uptick in extremist violence in 2018, up to 50 killings from 37 the year before. And all of those attacks, per the ADL, were committed by right-wing extremists. This covers several high-profile cases where the mass shooter had ties to or voiced support for white supremacists, like the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, and the massacre at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh.

This comes after several other distressing stories about the rise of violent right-wing radicals. In upstate New York, three men were arrested for planning an attack on a small Muslim community. A man trying to emulate Dylann Roof failed to enter a locked, predominantly black church, so he headed to a local grocery store and shot two people to death. PBS produced a documentary about neo-Nazis joining the U.S. military for combat training. And there's been quiet concerns for years about white nationalists infiltrating law enforcement across the country, and that finally bubbled up into The New York Times this past November.

Maybe someone should ask Congressman Steve Scalise about it. Now there's someone who knows about this stuff...and guess what? He was not just threatened but shot and almost killed, and the outrage from other than his own party was muted to say the least. Now that Rep. Omar is offended by words, it is supposed to be a concern.

...you mean like this:
Obama calls Republican lawmaker after shooting at baseball field
or this:
Sen. Bernie Sanders and Democrats Condemn ‘Despicable’ Attack on Republican Lawmakers
or this
'This Kind of Mindless Violence Must Stop'
because it looks to me like Democrats as well as Republicans were very interested in offering support...until Republicans started using the attack to in turn attack Democrats that is. Then it was back to business as usual. :sigh:
tulc(notes if Albion would like to discuss Congressman Scalise and the attack on him perhaps he should start a thread to discuss that there?)

Maybe someone should ask Congressman Steve Scalise about it.

He was shot by a left-wing terrorist. So that would kinda like asking a guy who was struck by lightning, what he thinks of automobile accidents.

Now there's someone who knows about this stuff...and guess what? He was not just threatened but shot and almost killed, and the outrage from other than his own party was muted to say the least.

In a statement, Senator Sanders wrote that he had been “informed that the alleged shooter at the Republican baseball practice is someone who apparently volunteered on my presidential campaign.” He went on to say: “I am sickened by this despicable act. Let me be as clear as I can be. Violence of any kind is unacceptable in our society and I condemn this action in the strongest possible terms.”

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said in a statement that “on days like today, there are no Democrats or Republicans, only Americans united in our hopes and prayers for the wounded.” She commended the Capitol Police for their “bravery” and “heroism,” which she said “undoubtedly saved countless lives.”

Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein said that “this kind of mindless violence must stop” in a statement. “My heart goes out to those who were injured in Alexandria, along with their families and everyone else affected. I wish them all a speedy recovery," she said. "I’m dedicated to doing all I can to putting an end to these senseless tragedies.” More of Scalise’s colleagues took to Twitter to send well-wishes:

'This Kind of Mindless Violence Must Stop'

Now that Rep. Omar is offended by words, it is supposed to be a concern.

We've always understood that. When a left wing nut does something, democrats condemn it vigorously. But when a right-wing nut like the MAGAbomber or these creeps threaten democrats, the right plays it down as "Omar is offended by words."

That's how it always is. Last December, the Trump DOJ admitted that the way it included foreign terrorists captured overseas, and brought to the United States as captives, in it's list of domestic terrorists was not an accurate representation, and that:
"On reconsideration, the Department acknowledges that a focus on eight seemingly similar “illustrative examples” from a list of more than 400 convictions could cause some readers of the Report to question its objectivity."

Ya think?

The right has a near-monopoly on terrorist killings in the United States in recent years.

On Wednesday, the Anti-Defamation League released a report finding that attackers with ties to right-wing extremist movements killed at least 50 people in 2018. That was close to the total number of Americans killed by domestic extremists, meaning that the far right had an almost absolute monopoly on lethal terrorism in the United States last year. That monopoly would be total if, in one case, the perpetrator had not “switched from white supremacist to radical Islamist beliefs prior to committing the murder.”

The number of fatalities is 35 percent higher than the previous year, and it marks the fourth-deadliest year for such attacks since 1970. In fact, according to the ADL, white supremacists are responsible for the majority of such attacks “almost every year.” The 2018 attacks include the one at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life synagogue by a man who blamed Jews for the migrant caravan, the mass shooting at a yoga studio by an “incel” obsessed with interracial dating, and the school massacre in Parkland, Florida, carried out by a student who wished that “all the Jews were dead.”

From 2009 through 2018, right-wing extremists accounted for 73 percent of such killings, according to the ADL, compared with 23 percent for Islamists and 3 percent for left-wing extremists. In other words, most terrorist attacks in the United States, and most deaths from terrorist attacks, are caused by white extremists.
The Terrorism That Doesn’t Spark a Panic

And yes, Americans have become accustomed to the right brushing off that sort of thing as "being offended by words." Decent Americans are sickened by the behavior of our president, who sought to stir up hate against this congresswoman by a tweet falsely connecting her to 9/11.

He has no morals, no shame, no sense of decency.

Neither do many of his followers, a few of whom have decided that assassination is the way to deal with people they hate. We knew that, too.

Where did you get that info from??? It doesn't take but a few seconds to prove that statement wrong about the outrage from other than his own party. The truth is that outrage came from all members of Congress, equally.

I'm sure there must have been republicans who were angered by Trump's attempt to tie an American congresswoman to 9/11, and there must have been some republicans who denounced the people who have threatened her life because of Trump's tweet.

Is there a republican here who can give us the names of some of them?
