A little part of me died reading this. They are now saying the entire wooden interior is destroyed, hopefully they can get the rest saved before it is a total loss.

Been watching the live coverage. Now the roof collapse into the church. So sad, I may not be catholic but I appreciate good architecture and the fact its a world famous landmark. Well to be fair I would never want any place of worship (no matter the religion) to burn down. I don't know if they will be able to restore it at this rate. If they do it will not be the same.

The building is the property of the state and not the church so you can be sure it will be rebuilt as it has been before. The earliest portions of the building goes back to the 12th century but even the spire was last rebuilt only 180 years ago. Tragic yes but as the tv show once said 'we can rebuilt him'. UNESCO has already pledged funding. A gentle reminder that the things mankind holds dear are fleeting and not of any true value.

Fortunately it can, and will be rebuilt - much as the cathedrals in Germany after WWII were. Blessedly we have pictures and plans that will aid the building to be rebuilt as it once was. None the less, that does not make it any less of a tragedy.

Possibly billions of dollars will be taken from people to rebuild it....... while ten thousand children die every week of thirst or hunger....

Not taken. People can give to both.

Will they pay to restore that which is not theirs, in this case Notre Dame?

Do you think the world will want to see it sit as a pile of rubble? Everyone has free will. God knows the heart of every person.

No doubt the world will chip in to restore it. however, would a tenant leasing an apartment pay for restoration of a property not theirs?

The topic is not the money to build churches or to preach at people about poverty. Stay on topic. Second mod hat, last warning. This thread has had a clean.

Notre-Dame cathedral on fire in Paris

Apparently this is the literal heart of France as distances are measured from this cathedral. It is the place where the kings and emperors were crowned, where Napoleon was crowned, the place survived the French revolution without being torn down as many sacred places were. IN 850 years it has not had a fire so serious so why now. Much of the art work has been saved. This art was painstakingly crafted for the glory of God but is now regarded as little more than display items in a secularised tourist site.

IN terms of the physical causation it seems to have been an accident which makes the spiritual causation all the more interesting. France is spiritually in a very bad way. It has an adulterous atheist for a president who is widely detested right now and was meant to make a speech saving his job from the fuel protestors tonight. The church itself is owned by the state and is more a tourist attraction that makes France money than a place of worship. When they do worship there they sing Ave Marias to the Virgin Mary after whom the cathedral is named.

So I am wondering if the fire is an act of God, a wake up call for the French to get their act together regarding Him.

Yes but the only admission charged is to the bell tower observation deck. Most people wander about free of charge.
