• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

When persons are asked the question "can you be controlled"? The typical response is no, that nobody can influence you to do something you don't want to. That people have free will which God does not violate.

Does Satan respect free will? This is the question that is not asked.

The Bible tells us that Satan is the god of this world. He blinds the minds of unbelievers, he beguiled Eve through his subtility. In the Cambridge Dictionary, beguiled is defined as "to persuade, attract, or interest someone, sometimes in order to deceive them :" English Oxford Living Dictionary explains that subtility is "Cunning, craftiness; = "subtlety"."

Satan is the prince of the power of the air, having influence on the course this world is taking and works in humans which are disobedient to God commandments.

2 Corinthians 4 verse 4

[1] Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
[2] But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
[3] But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
[4] In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

2 Corinthians 11 verse 3

[3] But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Ephesians 2 verse 1-3

[1] And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
[2] Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
[3] Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

So does Satan respect free will? The answer is no, he will use whatever method he can to deceive people to his own end. How does he does this, he does this through influence and control or coercion.

Influence is defined in the English Oxford Living Dictionaries as "The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behaviour of someone or something, or the effect itself." Examples are:

‘the influence of television violence’

‘I was still under the influence of my parents’

count noun ‘their friends are having a bad influence on them’

Some additional examples of powerful influencers, persons in the world has, is, alcohol, drugs, medications, and sex (addictions, inappropriate contentography, sexual scenes in movies, tv shows etc).

Now when someone uses alcohol, or drugs, or some medications or has sex, there are things they will do that, that they normally would not. This is understood by most. Often people indulge in these activities for fun or because there are truly hurting and this is the way they cope with problems they are having.

Can your behavior be directly influenced or controlled against your will? Yes, for example without your knowledge you may be given alcohol, drugs, medications, used for sex, or a deadly combination of all of these etc, causing you to act in ways that you normally would not.

Not only can you be influenced and controlled by the above, there are psychological ways in which people have been controlled which includes brainwashing and hypnosis which is more sophisticated but effective.

Cambridge Dicitionary defines brainwashing as "to make someone believe something by repeatedly telling them that it is true and preventing any other information from reaching them:"

Merriam Webster explains further that brainwashing is ": a forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes and to accept contrasting regimented ideas"

Cambridge Dictionary defines hypnosis as "a mental state like sleep, in which a person's thoughts can be easily influenced by someone else."

Merriam Webster states additionally, that Hypnosis is ": a trancelike state that resembles sleep but is induced by a person whose suggestions are readily accepted by the subject"

But can someone be directly controlled, not just influenced against their will, the answer is yes.

Brainwashing and Hypnosis is being used by different individuals such as the C.I.A and other groups, scientists etc to control the human mind, not just influence the human mind.

Physical Control of the Ind Toward a Psychocivilized Society (book)

Summary: Physical control of the mind by direct manipulation of the brain is a novel event in human history. In this volume, Dr. Jose M. R. Delgado describes his pioneering work in implanting electrodes in the brains of cats, monkeys, and men.

Through electrical stimulation of specific cerebral structures, Delgado demonstrates how movements can be induced by radio command, hostility may appear or disappear, social hierarchy can be modified, sexual behavior may be changed, and memory, emotions, and the thinking process may be influenced by remote control.

The mind is no longer unreachable, and may be the subject of experimental investigations. According to Delgado, we need to reorient the aims of civilization to restore a balance between its physical and psychological evolution. Our present mechanized society is dangerously self-perpetuating, and should be "psychocivilized" in order to develop wiser minds, to intelligently control our awesome technological advances. Dr. Delgado believes mankind

Another area of controlled that is not talked about much is in the area of the occult.

The answer is YES.

You can make an ant go some place you want to using pheromones...

The ant thinks it has free will because it chose to follow the pheromone which it assumes has a reward at the end.

If the world is ruled by the devil then guess what the devil uses to control people with -- money :)

For the love of money is the root of all evil...

Cheers!

The devil tempts us, but he can't force us.
We DO have free will...
but that free will can be subverted...
thus I agree with post no. 2...money is one way satan uses,,,there are others.

But only when we decide to serve God, can we be truly free because our sin nature is under submission to the Holy Spirit...

But we're still free to sin.

Bottom line: We're free.

METARELIGION AS THE HUMAN SINGULARITY - Christopher Michael Langan

Tech Singularity.
Hive structure, Eusocial selection; like mole rats or an Ant colony, but potentially worse as it would be a caste system, as well. Flood the West with highly skilled migrants, who won't do the jobs of Westerners(because inferior). Talking Murlocs & Eloi. Collectivism. Satanic or no faith.
Human Singularity. Distributive. Omega Point.

I remember reading something from Heraclitus about destroying the things that control you, or something like that. Also the movie Time Bandits, had a similar theme with Satan and Technology.

I do not believe so. But I cannot speak for anyone else. I do not believe that Free Will is more than an illusion -- a side-effect of our consiousness existing on this "side" of the "veil." (Another term for a singularity for all intents and purposes.)

@baryogenesis.
I have no doubt freewill is actual. Guilt, theft, murder; And above all lying. Otherwise have no consequence. There would be no ultimate structure to reality, or God.

To conclude that freewill is actual, I had to also conclude that I am partially divine,(Panentheist)Part of the Holy Spirit. Unbound potential outside of limits. "Nature(a limit) to be commanded must be obeyed." - Francis Bacon.

Perhaps (our) consciousness can be perceived as equivalent to the Holy Spirit(Godhead), there is no distinction. To presume a cause and effect, or a linear progression is to assume a deterministic affect. A Tech Singularity.

I would agree we can be controlled; I am an alcoholic. I made the choice to stop repeatedly, yet found myself drinking or in a bar within a short period of time. I was fighting something that was capable of changing my mind. Addiction or alcoholism is often given a 'disease' model in recovery. But a more accurate description (to me) is that it is a form of psychic hijacking.

We have much less free will than we think we do; most of the time we just act and react. Like dominoes falling one after the other. You can seek God though, and then the dominoes may start to fall a different way. Change the spirit of the man, and then the thoughts of the man and the actions of the man will change. But as it is often said 'the same person will drink again'. Fundamental changes have to occur and be reinforced daily.

Otherwise, the addict personality wins.

[...if free will did not exist...]
There would be no ultimate structure to reality, or God.

How so? What does the one have to do with the other? (Aside from our subjective perspective?)
