Using mud sounds magickal to me in your context. Might as well call Jesus a sorcerer as well for all the magick. This is in your context.

It's not. It's a symbol and catechetical. The mud itself does not heal the man, Jesus does that himself as God.

When you do deliverance you rarely cast out only one. Basics of deliverance. How do you know that this is just a narrative?.

Frankly, any other reading is absurd. Jesus, being God, knows the demon's name, and has no need to ask it except as a narrative device. Anything else just doesn't fit with orthodox theology.

Yes you are correct Jesus does it. We are the mud Jesus heals through as well as does deliverance. However the Holy Spirit leads...this mud man is to follow...even the weird ways He heals. It might be symbolic but Jesus actually used mud.

Are you saying the whole bible is symbolic?

If Jesus went out and used mud...so can we if the Holy Spirit says to do so. Deliverance and healing can be odd.

A few days ago, I learned that my own home church has begun to accept what I consider to be error into it. Nothing on the level that Hillsong allegedly has, but my church has just begun, for the first time ever, the Alpha Course.

Why does it have to fit orthodox theology?

Are you saying the whole bible is symbolic?

Jesus didnt do any of it?

Why did Jesus ask its name then? How can you be 100% certain as to ur belief?

Imho, a deeply flawed and problematic course that, the producers claim, is designed to introduce people to the basics of Christianity. It's done over a number of weeks and includes eating suppers, watching course videos, and having discussions in small groups.

Alpha Course is packaged charismatic religion. Not my thing, but there's far worse out there (I had a good friend once who was a middle-of-the-road charismatic Anglican lay preacher). On the other hand, it could lead you down a path where you start asking about demon's names and seeing conspiracies everywhere. Not pretty.

I went through some of Alpha Course. My old Anglican church had it. I ended up leaving the church before it was completed, though. I started attending the Epsicopal cathedral instead . They were quasi-charismatic but much more sober in their preaching and style.

Alpha is basically 4 spiritual laws stuff combined with a bit of people laying hands on you and encouraging speaking in tongues (sometimes) or "receiving the Holy Spirit", or something like that.

My life partner, a couple of friends of ours, and I once did the Alpha Course at a Christian Reformed church. Imho, the only thing worse than the teaching on video were the suppers that were served up - canned chili 80% of the time.

My church at home is a conservative, evangelical, Baptist church. The Alpha Course doesn't belong there. The videos should be driven to the local landfill and abandoned there.

You better tell Jesus He should have never asked the demons' name.

Its very hypocritical you are posting in a thread you believe are conspiracy theories.

Even worse you are flat out saying Jesus...the God of the universe cant ask a demons' name as an example of we are to do.

If Jesus had wanted us to ask demons their names, he would have specifically told us to do so.

Sometimes.

Some things in the Bible are meant to be merely descriptive rather than prescriptive.

Also note how he doesn't otherwise ask for the name of the demon. Most of the time it's inconsequential. I think that's indicative enough.

How many examples do you need of Jesus asking the names for it to no longer be inconsequential? Really i am asking how many you would need?

It would have grieved our Lord that there are so much of evil forces entering His church. Music is beautiful, a wonderful creation from Him, but the devil has perverted it. I agree, as many have said, that we should discern of what we listen to, and what we should introduce to our children, and generations to come.

May the Lord bless us all. :amen:

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. - 1 Colossians

Christ created them. He would know their names.

Therefore, He must have asked the name for the sake of His audience.
