Sunday 31 March 2019 is Mothering Sunday (UK) A wonderful time to remember our mothers, present and passed on. It is also a time when we can remember and celebrate in or with our mother church. Bless mothers everywhere!

"Mother church"? Now that is a term I have not heard before. What are you talking about?

The term "mother church" does indeed exist, and as far as I am aware, it has two meanings. I think the first meaning is that the church is the primary (or oldest) church of a Christian denomination. For example, the relationship between the Church of England and the Anglican Communion. As quietbloke has stated, it is also a term used to describe the church's role in nurturing the believer.

I thank God for my dear mother, now passed on. She was a brave person with determination to carry on through many difficulties. As a young girl she suffered tuberculosis and had half a kneecap and was lame. She was evacuated to a 'cripple' school when world war 2 came. As a young lady she made clothes for the forces and met her husband when he was in the army and in London. They fell in love and were married My brother was their first child and then me. We moved from London when I was under three years old. We had lived over a shop and it was very crowded. When the new town of Hemel Hempstead was introduced we moved into a brand new council house. We had a happy family life there.

I loved my mum and I am sure she loved me and my brother and sister. I can still see her limping up the hill to clean after school closed. She battled on in life looking after my grandmother, who had cancer of the bowel and was bedridden. She then went on to care for my father who was dying of enthesemia. Although she was suffering herself she bravely faced up to her difficulties and cared for those around her.

We are visiting my wife's mother and father today. Dad is 91 years old and Mum 87. They are doing well but suffering the effects of old age.The supermarket was alive today with people buying flowers for mother's. We bought a plant for my Mother-In-Law. They love the Lord and are looking forward to His second coming! I am humbled by their faithfulness to our Saviour!

How wonderful! I had a lovely card from my grandchildren, Martin's 2 from near Bristol, I remember him driving all the way a few years ago on his new Harley Davidson motorcycle on Mother's day. What a wonderful surprise visit. What memories..:)

I pay tribute here to the mother of our three children. My sweet, faithful wife is a wonderful mother to them and grandmother to eight grandchildren and one on the way! When I read (Proverbs 31:10-31) I think of her.
