Sure seems that way. Civilians openly carrying around guns is outright frightening to me.
In some U.S. states it is legal for open carry of handguns in holsters, and concealed carry. From the video clips I see on Youtube, civilian concealed carry has prevented many armed robberies and harming of innocent people.

I understand, by your posts, that you don't like guns and think that there should not be any guns.. well, maybe in the hands of trained professionals...

However, even though I understand that guns make these events much easier.. and.. that there is a lot of lives that are changed forever by these events.

This is, however, a symptom of a problem. You can take a decongestant for a runny nose... you still have a cold. You can take antihistamines for allergies... you still have allergies.

You can try to take all the guns from people.. you will still have murdering maniacs...That's even if you could get all the guns... but you cannot.. and only the guys like myself who are law abiding citizens will not have guns.

Criminals don't hand in their guns just because they are unlawful to own.

I agree that these events are awful and terrible events with significant loss of innocent lives.

Thing is..you can ban all the guns and sit back with a proud look on your face...yet you have not done anything... just grabbed some low hanging fruit and given yourself a false sense of accomplishment.

Gun laws are always the first thing that a government targets... Why? because it looks like they are doing something... all the while.. it is not.

On the flip side.. how many shots do you think that this guy would have got off if everyone had a gun on their hip.... I know it's not realistic... but let's swing the pendulum the other way for a bit and see.

Ya.... two or three men there with 9mm in a holster under their arm.... that guy is toast... burnt toast.

So, lets stop trying to hammer the law abiding citizens, who own and handle fire arms in safe and lawful manner....

Bring me a solution for the problem .... not the method.

Unless....we ban all knives, base ball bats, cars, ropes, lead pipes.....

I actually own a gun - a semi automatic handgun. I’ve got no problems with people owning guns. I simply think we are way too irresponsible in our screening.

Oh dear! Is the sheriff in your town that bad???

Not in my town. He knows his role as a public servant and he and his deputies pretty much stay in their own lane and obey the law.

If you Live elsewhere, such as in Leon Valley Texas, however, That Sheriff there IS A Tyrant who makes up his own laws, and you'd better have at least a platoon or even a full company of Soldiers at your disposal to protect your family from him and his deputies' tyrannical overreach.

New Zealand is not Texas. People in NZ want to live quiet, simple lives - in peace with their families. It should not be possible for a complete stranger to arrive from another country, purchase guns and ammo for no particular reason, and then massacre people in a place of worship. Obviously the perpetrator found some kind of loophole. They are trying to close it. It is that simple.

Prayers and best wishes for the people in Christchurch.

If we had anyone like that down here, putting a couple of red-back spiders on his toilet seat would sort him out!

No one needs a semi-automatic to hunt rabbits, pigs and deer.

You stumble across a hog in tall grass/weeds and he decides to charge you better have an AR in .308 or larger or you will be trampled and maybe much worse.

Until they do, at least there are these quiet, simple, peaceful New Zealanders who have vowed to protect the Mosques for Friday prayers:

And the wild boar roam many states in the north and south.

I guess if one is brave and likes close encounters a 44 hand cannon would do. :)

Oh that’s going to go well...
I suspect you are absolutely correct.

That will stop bullets.
If that attacker drove up and saw that group out front instead of the scene he did see, there would not be those 50 dead innocents today. And there will not be any more dead this Friday from any potential copycat, except maybe the copycat....
