Btw, im not able to completely empty my mind and i dont try. However, sometimes you gotta cast out despair or you will invite it in. Just my fallible opinion.

I was just passing on as a warning from what I read from a teacher. In Christianity it's a filling, more so than an emptying. I have done the eastern meditations before I became a Christian and they teach one to empty the mind and the repeat mantras. A perfect practice for spiritual possession.

Simply because the Hindus or New Age believers do something does not mean they have the rights to it. Muslims pray, does my praying to God make me a Muslim? Buddhists chant, are Christian chants Buddhist? No, they are not.

Attempting to quiet the mind is a basic meditation technique, it can be found in Christian, Buddhist, Hindu, and other traditions. The difference is the why on the attempt to quiet the mind.

I wouldn't say it's about "quieting the mind", it's about practicing acceptance. Quieting the mind doesn't focus on the receptivity that is necessarily a part of this sort of meditation.

In practical terms, I think this looks like something like love, but not the carnal kind we are used to as a tit for tat- I love you because you love me. It's more open ended, just being open to love and accepting what comes, good or bad, as a gift.

I dont know, what im talking about is what i personally do, without any instruction (other than what the bible says) What i do is out of necessity. I cast out thoughts of condemnation sometimes, despair other times. Not perfect at it but it helps sometimes. Can Satan cast out condemnation? If so tell me and i'll consider your words.

I do not think we are not supposed to close our eyes and slow down our thoughts like the Buddhists and Hindus. We are supposed to meditate on the Word of God. Before reading anything in the Bible ask the Holy Spirit to reveal His truth. When you find a passage that sticks out, keep reading it over and over (meditate on it). Memorize it. This is what I do. I learned this from a bible teacher who is very prominent in the gifts of the Spirit.

I learned about meditating on the scriptures from the apostle Paul and King David the psalmist. I use to do it a lot more when i was searching for knowledge of Gods will.

Thank you. Not exactly technique but yes, the word "meditation" is used. This is why a teacher, led by the Holy Spirit is necessary today. Of course, the Holy Spirit himself is best, but I do not yet have that luxury ;)

I learn from scripture not teachers who are bound by their traditions even if they are wrong. Can i be wrong too? Yes but i seek the holy spirit inside where God writes on my heart. One preacher i kinda like though, check out this sermon. I dont follow him though but agree with his message none the less. I follow scripture and simplicity over the various traditions of the various churches.

Technique for biblical meditation is simply to ponder, or think about everything the Lord and His apostles teach and did. You will see that much in the scriptures i posted. Paul says to keep what he did and taught for an example, and to think about such things. David ponders God's past works, and God's testimonies as well as His law.

What however is wrong with letting go of worry, and meditating on peace instead? Can that not be good meditation? Im kinda haunted by things that weary me, sometimes i gotta close my eyes and forget. Is that wrong?

I think that's great. I seek out the Holy Spirit too, and there are some teachers that I believe He is working through. I think if we stay close to the scriptures, as you a doing, we are led by the Holy Spirit and He gives us discernment.

Nothing wrong with that. I was just stating the meditations I learned from buddhism, and not to do them. The teach one to close your eyes and think of nothing, then as thoughts come in, not to follow them. It's a relaxation technique which is not found in scripture. It's called "emptiness" meditation in buddhism. It's not going to kill you but it's not a practice one should use as a Christian. Same as Yoga. People are carrying their yoga mats with them everywhere, and stretching etc. It's not as serious as full on Kundalini yoga but it's meant to relax the body so that kundalini can possess the person. You can see "Chrisitains" unknowingly practicing kundalini at Bill Johnson's Bethel churches on YouTube. It's scary.

Hey Romans 8 not sure I understand or can agree with you. I do use Buddhist meditation and I find it to be ....for lack of a better word...enlightening. I would never put aside something that works just because of a brand or name on it. Meditation is an excellent tool and for me it works. It may not for everyone but each must decide for himself.
