Hey everyone, I thought I'd start a thread for anyone who wants to share their poems here. :D Feel free to share poems of any style of poetry!

Here's one to start off!

The Hour of Dreams
At twilight's fading blush,
Silent silhouettes hush;
A whisper of silver wind
Sighs in sleeping trees,
And the sky darkens, dreams
Until a thousand white fires
Sing of things unseen.

Life's short.

Life's wondrous offer to being, renders more then subjugation.
Please crucify your self-importance so you'll be a free creation.
However refining silver and purifying gold excludes the dross.
Bequeathing you no alternative but dependency on the cross.

God's Word ruminates food for the soul, whosoever you turnout to be.
For Christ's liberty fetches the shackled soul a combination key.
Grab hold of eternal bliss before death catches up with all the lies.
Remember life is short for those who have lost touch with paradise.

So I don't heed the gravediggers wallowing six foot deep in retreat.
Could death preclude us spiritually; as the Lord we'll surely meet?
Or still trusting that your demise has non-being as final victory?
I wager the whole of my existence - JESUS will be awaiting me!

Wow! Very good and makes me think. This line is very moving:
"Grab hold of eternal bliss before death catches up with all the lies.
Remember life is short for those who have lost touch with paradise."

Thank you for sharing. :)

An excerpt from my own metrical version of Psalm 2 in the common meter:

The nations rage, the peoples plot,
But, why do they in vain?
Their earthly kings do set themselves,
Their rulers counsel frame,
Against the Lord, against his Christ,
Saying to each one thus,
“Let us their bonds burst free and we
Cast off their cords from us.”
But he that sits in heaven laughs;
He mocks them in contempt.
Then he will speak to them in wrath,
In fearful fury bent...
That is so beautifully written! :grinning: Are you still working on the rest of the poem?

It is finished, I just quoted a part of it. In my personal time, I have been attempting the work of creating my own personalized Psalter for myself, probably record myself sing it, and listen to it wherever I go. :)

you're

i know that somewhere or
where i haven't been
before, within my inner core,
i must admit to longing for,
its true, its you, i cant ignore
the pounding of my heart much more
than wasted years, our moments, nor
continue toward the pain I bore
and bare, its rare, the love I store
which tore me inthrough you and
made me sore to be so near
so close to dear. the heart was war.
and at its over-end, ignore.

THE SONG OF LIFE …

There’s a song being sung and we’re all in the choir,

the proud, the meek, the blind and the liar.

Each makes a sound as they move through the days,

and the score is kept forever they say…

For some life's a game to be played and won,

others live for pleasure and fun.

Few manage to find what they are created to do,

few find the treasure and meet the real You.

Some leave ripples of pain and hurt,

few, if any, will give you his shirt.

It’s sad but true that most of the time,

all that we’re thinking is I, me, mine.

How do we break this cycle of self

that corrodes our tribes, our families, our wealth?

Return to the melody sung by our Father

or - stay out of tune, if you would rather.

But don’t come to me if you choose your own song,

complaining that everything in life’s going wrong.

He came to this earth and walked with the worst,

loved the unlovely for which He was cursed.

Showed us the lyrics with the beat of His heart,

invited us with Him to sing our special part.

Ill give you the first note if you want to join in,

say sorry to Jesus for every selfish sin.

Invite Him to take control of your life,

and let Him deal with your anxiety and strife.

He knows best how to get you to sing,

with the beautiful tones you were created to bring.

You will find others to share this new love

of life, and the Father in Heaven above.

With much Blessing

Hi there,

Looking at this first poem you posted it had the feel of one I wrote years back that is in some ways similar...

AUTUMN

Twilight paths move among the brown and green of is and been...
Many last light flight is neither heard nor seen.
Darkness folds it soft close 'oer tree and stream...
And - I AM - in-between...

Blessings,

Carl Emerson

ETERNAL GARDENS

The plastic flowers have no end.
They hope you feel you feel you know.
Oh how they lead you on my friend.

No need to water, we'll pretend
that the gardens growth is slow.
The plastic flowers have no end,

for all their faultless leaves contend
with watching only shadows grow.
Oh how they lead you on. My friend

walked on the roses since they don't bend
or break or have no friend or foe.
The plastic flowers have no end

in sight in fact it might extend
the "springs eternal hope" that they bestow,
Oh how they lead you on my friend.

Oh how they hardly try to blend
into the back-ground down below.
Oh how they lead you on my friend.
The plastic flowers have no end.

Hello starryshadows - Welcome to CF. A good poem evoking evening to night transformation.
Thank you also for prompting/inciting more quality poetry to be posted from more different people than we have had for many a month. Looking forward to seeing more of your stuff.
ewq's plastic flowers villanelle reminded me of this one of mine from a few years back.

Brave New Worlds

A sun sinks slowly in the west
As rising ones effervesce
Horizons narrow and draw near
But sky no longer limits fear

While mankind in various guises
Blithely gathers plastic prizes
Bends his bow by stretching truth
Shoots his sins at heaven's roof

The world turns still, as still as thunder
But those who feast die of hunger
The hungry sing sweet songs of praise
And angels sternly shelve the days

Under unseen eyes all seeing
Staring hard the human being
Blind to all beyond all knowing
Sees his plastic prizes growing.

Also, you're welcome! I didn't see anywhere for everyone to share, so I thought I'd make a place for that. I haven't written poetry in awhile, so I'm excited to try and get back into it! And I love seeing everyone's poems here; it really inspires me!! :)

Your poem is really great!! I'm always impressed when someone writes in forms; I'm not very good at it, though I'd like to learn. I think it takes a lot of skill, so it always impressed me to see someone write in forms like villanelle!

That is beautiful! I love poems that describe nature - and I love the inclusion you have here of God's presence in His handiwork. :)

A very short poem that I wrote just now.

The Sun
How had I not the eyes to see
The Savior who redeems?
The cup that filled is flowing free
Of everlasting streams;
The water clear, His gift to me,
Of Light's unfiltered beams!

Garage Elite

Whose yard this is I think I know.
They let the grass just grow and grow.
They will not see me standing here-
The sidewalk is so deep and low.

Their lawnmower must think it queer
That they have some mowing "fear".
And, so it lays so cold and still
With dreams of gas and grass so dear.

It's dreams include a grassy meal.
An appetite it has yet to fill.
A hunger for a green type treat
But as of yet those dreams aren't real.

Garage existences are indiscreet.
They're very orderly and neat.
They're organized in line and row-
The orderly, unused elite.

Salut Starry - Non je ne suis pas un Français. Je suis britannique. But we have live here many years.
No-one is born 'skilled' at anything :). A villanelle poem is probably one of the easier ones to become skilled at. Once you've got the first three lines, because of the repeats, it means that you have already got nine of the nineteen lines needed. There are only two end rhymes to work with. And because of the repeats every verse after the first one already has a pole to fly flags from. Go on, have a go. Don't try to finish it in a day, take as long as it takes.
Go well
