But if you want to say the president does lie, how many lies are enough to make the case?

Apparently, for his supporters and apologists, that number is infinite because no amount of lying will convince them that he's a liar. Seriously, you're quibbling over whether he's told hundreds of lies or thousands.

But they're the lies they want to hear... what good does truth do them?

Well, it may be that Mexico will pay for the wall in one way or another.

It wasn't the Mexican government that Donald shut down to get them to pay for his wall.

But much of what the president takes heat for are his off-the-cuff comments like all of us regular folk say everyday

I don't know many of these "regular folk". Who are you hanging around with?

But if the president says such a thing, it instantly is analyzed from every possible angle as though it was testimony given in court.

Gosh, it's almost as if we expected better from the president.

Good thing we expect so little, instead.

True, but the net result was still the same -- failure.

I'm sure some of them are Very Good People.

Irrelevant. There are a number of ways in which Mexico could wind up paying for the wall other than by writing us a check. Personally, I don't care one way or the other -- or even if they do pay for it -- so long as it is built.

However, the fondness some people have for saying that the president was wrong or a liar in this matter and using it as their ace in the hole "proof" doesn't come with any specifics attached to it, if you notice. It's just a slogan with them, they enjoy saying it, and they are the only people who are impressed by it.

That's the spirit. Next thing, you'll be able to deny he ever said it in the first place.

You're already giving him credit for stuff that got done long before he showed up, so how big a leap is it?

Kind of like Donald's promise in the first place...

Trump May boycott 2020 debates after DNC snubs Fox News

The Republicans are reduced to criticizing the Democrats as "socialists" and the "radical left" because they can't run on their record!

- 35 day federal government shut down that only strengthened the Democrats
- $1 trillion tax cut for the wealthy
- revolving door of White House staff
- no "grand bargain" negotiated with Kim Jung-ai
- approaching 10 000 "Pinocchioes" while in office
- multiple scandals
- no wall funding from Mexico, as promised
- less credibility with the public than his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, a convicted liar and felon
- no infrastructure bill
- 2 failed attempts to repeal and replace Obamacare
- Puerto Rico debacle
- Republicans lost a record 40 seats and their majority after he 2018 Interims
- Mueller Investigation
- Judge Roy Moore and the loss of Session's Alabama Senate seat
- all the "adult supervision" in the White House have either been replaced or resigned
- Charlotteville, white racists, the "good people on both sides" comment
- "national emergency" to bypass the Congress may be defeated in the Senate despite having a Republican majority

There are no words to describe the sheer incompetence it takes not to pass the necessary funding for their President's signature promise, "THE WALL" - given their 2 year window of opportunity with majorities in both the Senate and the House!
...PLUS his campaign leader sentenced to almost 9yrs in prison and more of his associates going to prison.

Awful Awful record. Trump can't even take all the credit for economy because the economy was already improving under Obama.

He did get 2 supreme court judges though. That's nothing to sneeze at. But that's about it.

Maybe, but they haven't paid a penny so far. Another failed Trump promise.

Writes the post claiming that maybe there are ways that Mexico might possibly pay for it in the future with zero specifics mentioned. Reads a lot like projection to me.

That's a good example of the meaninglessness of the popular game of claiming that the president lies all the time.

Anyone can see that: 1) the wall has not been built yet, so it is impossible to say if Mexico will pay for it or not in any of the various ways by which she could pay. Therefore, it cannot be a lie since the promise has not had time to play out yet.

And then 2) because it was a projection, if it goes wrong or fails to come to pass, it cannot be said that the president lied, only that he was later proven wrong. By contrast, Obama certainly did lie when he famously said that "You can keep your doctor," and we know that because he knew the contents of his proposed legislation when he was speaking and that the provisions would make his claim impossible for many people.

Was Trump at fault for that too? If not, why not, if he is the cause of everything that is wrong in the world?

Nope. It's just another example of Americans falling for a (war) campaign promise that has no basis in reality.

Mexico has clearly stated they won't. Trump shut down the US government trying to get Americans to pay for it. He failed, and is now asking for that money in the next US budget. None of which includes any mention or plans for getting Mexico to pay for it. The people who think there's still a chance claim there are ways it might happen, but seem to be unable to enumerate a single one - maybe it is better being vague than listing a bunch of far-fetched fantasies?

The weird part isn't that some people initially believed Trump's made up claim. The strange part is that wit all of the facts at hand, they still cling to it. And then pretend that people who see the reality of the situation are the ones making things up.

Of course the Mexican government will SAY that.

It is to be expected, and the president was fully aware--and said so--that how and when Mexico would pay off was not yet determined, only that she would .
