He is completely blind but with detached retinas after birth, he likely has the "sense" of vision and builds a scene with his hearing. He could find people on stage based on their voice and likely can even outline a silhouette based on the voice and knowing how people are shaped. But if the piano was not being played, it would take his a while to "spot" it based on echoes. Likely he could spot it but it would take him time. Blind people make a "map" of their environment based on sound patterns.

My wife taught a blind man math, and he said he could "visualize" the slopes of the curves with no problem. It made math easy for him becasue he could "see" how math works better than sighted students.

You can see in the video that Paul running past, bumps Stevie, bumps the mike stand, and the stand falls toward Stevie, who catches it. Likely he could hear the mike falling, being on stage much of his life, it's a sound he is very familiar with. Even catching a falling mike stand is probably a well practiced skill he has. He could probably juggle a live mike stand based on the sounds it makes.

Stevie has been blind all of his life. For someone to accuse him of faking blindness is heartless. Obviously he has learned to live with sightlessness in ways that sighted individuals do not understand.

Hi friend, something important came up, but what I thought of at first is to ask (as it's lately interesting to me also): have you ever read through the Proverbs? (there's a very important thing later below and this post to you isn't about Proverbs in particular) It came to mind because of this post, as there are several proverbs that might apply (not only 1), and there is one for each different possible situation, I think. Really, there are quite a variety so that one would apply in any of several different scenarios. Now, in this video we hear the mic stand bumped very obviously, and of course Stevie would hear the vibrations/air from Paul trotting past, so he'd know the mic was bumped and he'd know from experience (especially he would definitely know this better than us!) that it might fall over.

Sure. Of course, he's a lifelong performer on stages with mics, that can fall over, etc., etc., etc. Further, he will have of course ways to know who is around, by paying attention to clues we ourselves routinely never pay attention to, because we do not need to. But, something far more important came up.

For instance, even if something amazing happened such as Stevie somehow had gradually been recovering sight in life...or something even more amazing, imagine if with total faith for a minute he had prayed for sight, and God miraculously healed him (and that would not necessarily mean he should then just publish it as merely a news item, but instead might mean he would testify to close friends, perhaps even saying to them something like Christ did: "tell no one" (to avoid mere slander in news of people claiming he lied his whole life, for instance), but since they are close friends in relationship with him, they might actually tell no one, yet (or some might wait)). ...

So, there are like about 5 possible scenarios right? From simply his already trained and very amazing ability to hear and know what's happening around him (as some reasonably assume, and is very likely), to something like an unusual clue in the moment to what was happening (since he has more than only one way to compensate for blindness for instance, and has had to learn those other ways), and more, several different possibilities.

But we would want to be very cautious we don't accidentally make a false accusation against him, because that is actually deadly to us: 1 Cor 6:10, as Christians. ("nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.") We had a bible study on Proverbs recently in which we went over several dozen, but actually I'm soon expecting to read all of them through again (it's been since youth when I read through fully). But I recently heard also Proverbs that apply and are helpful, and that's why I'm mentioning proverbs also.

So, you see, out of caution for one's own soul, I'd go and edit the title to remove the accusation "faking" from the title (I think you use the button near the top called "Thread Tools"), since the word "faking" constitutes reviling possibly (!!), and 1 Cor 6:10 says that keeps one out of the Kingdom (!!) if not repented of. It's like you would not play with high voltage electrical wiring just on the guess it's not live....you'd not risk life just on a lark to play with the wires (which could be live!), especially not eternal life. But He is just and faithful to forgive if we confess (directly to God), and turn from the wrong (not continuing to do it in the future). -- 1 John chapter 1.

If we try to paraphrase what Christ commands us in Matthew 7:1-5, one key part is not to judge others in a way too eager to condemn, because that very same harsh standard would then be applied to ourselves on the Day of Judgement. It's not a standard we can meet, so we are not to take it upon ourselves to be sure of someone's sin except when we have directly seen it unambiguously so that it's not just a reasonable guess. If people reasonably guessed at our sins, they would count even more than only those we have actually done. Of course, the Judge from whom nothing will be hidden already knows. We do not. He does.

As you watch the video, Stevie does not respond to ANY visual input, but instead reacts to both physical and auditory stimulus. He does not see the runner in front of him nor does he turn and watch the runner go past him. But he can hear the microphone being brushed into and feel and hear the runner pass him.
