President Donald Trump on Monday unveiled a $4.7 trillion federal spending plan that calls for cuts to domestic programs — including Medicare and Social Security — while boosting military spending and increasing funding for a southern border wall.

The budget also calls for reforms to the Medicare program that provides health coverage for elderly Americans, which the office estimates will save $845 billion over the next decade, and proposes reducing spending on Social Security programs by $26 billion.

While this is cast as 'reforms' and 'savings', we know the Republicans have no workable solution for reducing healthcare costs. They talked a big game and came up with nothing when they controlled everything. This is just cuts, hundreds of billions of dollars of cuts, to seniors.

Of course they want to cut the big safety net. They don't want it to exist so they don't have to pay taxes, forgetting what happened when those safety nets where not in place.

I hope they enjoy their saved taxes when the poor and desperate rise up.

This will reduce healthcare costs for the federal government.

You gotta ask yourself, in the richest country in the world, or so I hear, do poor people really need or deserve healthcare? Let's take that money and SSI, which, let's face it, just encourages people to be disabled, and build us a beautiful wall.

We currently spend more than the next five countries put together on our military? Well, let's make it more than the next seven! We got to have the best, military anyway.

Yep, exactly. My spouse had a traumatic brain injury on purpose, just to get the SSDI which is a mere fraction of what the salary was when working.

We currently spend more than the next five countries put together on our military? Well, let's make it more than the next seven! We got to have the best, military anyway.
It's actually 10 countries, not five and half of those are "allies". Then again, with the GOP Reality Show Host, who knows who our allies actually are anymore?

It's in the budget Donald presented. There's no way around that.

theNewYorker said:
Promises kept” has a particularly nice ring to it. Almost as nice as what Trump said on that fateful day, June 16, 2015, when he descended the escalator at Trump Tower. “Save Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security without cuts,” he declared. “Have to do it.” Throughout the Republican primary campaign, Trump repeated this pledge many times and also accused his G.O.P. opponents of wanting to slash the three big entitlement programs. In the general-election campaign, he stuck to the same mantra. A few days before Election Day, he suggested that Hillary Clinton wanted to “destroy” Medicare, the public health-care system for the elderly, which she had vowed to expand, and claimed that he alone would “protect” it.
Donald promised.

The budget for the 2019 fiscal year called for five hundred and fifty billion dollars in cuts to Medicare over ten years. With the budget deficit skyrocketing as a consequence of the Trump-G.O.P. tax bill, the 2020 budget would reduce spending on Medicare by eight hundred and forty-five billion dollars over the next decade. Even in Washington, that’s a lot of money.
He said he wouldn't touch Medicare.

Even for an ardently conservative administration like this one, you might think that would be enough cuts to health-care spending. No. The budget also proposes to eliminate some federal subsidies that the A.C.A. provided for the purchase of private insurance plans by people who aren’t quite poor enough to qualify for Medicaid. “The budget overall would cut funding for Medicaid and ACA subsidies by $777 billion over ten years, compared to current law,” Hannah Katch, an analyst at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a liberal think tank, noted.
The White House’s New Budget Exposes Donald Trump’s Lies About Protecting Medicare and Medicaid

Is it still a lie if his budget doesn't get passed, if it's just something he's proposing?

No, as cow has pointed out, even the Republicans in Congress are not going to pay any attention to the cuts that Trump wants.

Trumps budget is DOA with an election year coming.

Worse than that for Trump. It should be a gunshot wound to his foot in a re-election race. Democrats could run simply on this and be able to put a dent in Trump’s older demographic base.

ATTN Seniors: Trumps calls for cuts to Social Security, Medicare

Its Canada that will need "THE WALL" to keep its neighbors from the south from flooding into to the country!

Canadians will be reminded that, "When America sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with them. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."

As the senior population is the wealthiest demographic group in the country, what is the objection to lowering the subsidization of that group? Do we not want them to pay their fair share?

It's not a scare tactic when the President literally announces that it is what he wants to do.
