I"m 51 and I'd say that I've had two different moments in my life when I was approached about Christ. Once was by a couple that knocked on my door from an actual Christian Church.

1. How is this even possible?
2. If this Church (the body of Christ) has abandoned "obedience" to such lengths, is there any reason to think that Jesus won't be returning soon?

[Rom 3:12 NLT] "All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one."

Two different occasions in 51.5 years? "Confidence Is From The Lord" is a false teaching folks. This evil statement along with, "Just Pray About It" are two of the most destructive false teachings rampant in the "Church" today.

God, forgive them all, for they know not what they do. But as for our false teachers whom have led us astray....may that Goliath millstone be tightly noosed and may you do to them as you did to the generation of Benjamites who raped honorable women to death!

The title of your thread is: “Why don’t Christians Witness About Jesus?” The content of your OP, however, is addressing your concern about two specific “false teachings.”

So, what topic are you hoping to initiate discussion on, false teaching in the Church?, or the failure of many professing Christians to witness to the unsaved?

have been approached multiple times:
-college dorm by several Christians
-at community events
-people from multiple local churches coming to our door
-neighbors coming to door (Pastor lives on our street)

the Pastor/wife on our street have initiated much including Bible studies, VBS, and get togethers with neighbors
it's part of the mission at his church for members to reach out to neighbors

our community has several churches and one church even got community leaders to allow a manger scene in middle of a round-about at Christmas

maybe you need to find out why YOUR community is not reaching out?

"My community" - I'm approaching 52. It's naive to think that I've only lived in one spot my entire life. Would you like to hear from an 81 year old man who is my former Sunday School teacher, also the Piano Player for our church, arranged and played masterful piano for the Sound Waves from the former Christian College, Puget Sound Christian College of the Bible. This man will tell you that NO ONE has ever tried to give him the Gospel of Jesus Christ! He's been in the church his entire life yet no one has ever approached him. And he, too, has been deceived, for this man has never witnessed himself, nor has he ever known HOW to witness, yet he is my former Sunday School teacher. We are talking about a regular ol' church. Not Mormon, not Catholic, nothing weird or fancy.

Shall I continue with more?

Look, we're being deceived. Did you notice that you only wrote about what you think or believe that others have done in terms of their witnessing? We all can see that you did not include yourself as one that witnesses. Why would you reference the actions of others, and not mention your own sense of witnessing? This isn't right.

why wouldn't I mention what I have seen and heard since it is in direct opposition to the OP?
which made me wonder why your community is different

yes, I have witnessed to others
one atheist I continually witnessed to finally told me to stop talking about Jesus

Thank you for your input, but you're not understanding and I doubt that I have the power to make you understand nor do I have the desire to reach you. I'll continue to wait for one with ears that can hear and eyes that can see.

1. How is this even possible?
Because many Christians are selfish. Penn Jillette, the famous magician is also an atheist. He said once on a podcast that one thing he didn't understand about Christians was why they didn't witness more. He said that if he saw someone stuck on some train tracks and there was a train coming that he would do everything he could to save the person and prevent them from being run over by the train.

He then said how Christians believe that all non-Christians are going to hell, which is a huge thing to claim. He then asked how unloving Christians have to be to not want to warn everyone around them.

He's right. If we really do believe in God... in Heaven, and in Hell... how much do we have to hate our neighbor to not warn them of what's coming their way?

I think we would all agree that the vast majority of Christians fail on this important calling. Thankfully there are Christians who witness, who minister, who are missionaries, who do love their neighbors and do witness. But certainly we could all do a lot better.

Thess - since this is so near and dear to your heart, would you mind sharing the successes you've had in sharing the Gospel? Perhaps you could be an encouragement to those reading since I would assume you wouldn't have written this if you weren't being pro-active yourself.

2. If this Church (the body of Christ) has abandoned "obedience" to such lengths, is there any reason to think that Jesus won't be returning soon?
I personally try not to get caught up in eschatology. I do know that Christ is going to return, but I don't know when. In the meantime, I'll do my best to love my neighbors and point them towards Christ.

With non-believers, I bring up my faith when the opportunity arises or they want to talk. I don't chase after people trying to convert them, however, since that's between them and God. It's not like my friends and neighbors don't know who He is. The gospel has been taught and preached throughout America. You will find those who refuse to be part of the Christian Family, and the best you can hope for is that they come to see and come to the light.

If they want to have honest discussion or questions, that's one thing, but I don't believe in cramming my beliefs down their throat when they are closed off to it, nor do I want to debate my faith with other people.

1 Peter 3:15 - "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect."

I think a lot of Christians have misunderstood what evangelism is about. It's not about going to people's personal homes to knock on their doors or constantly state they are in the only ones right to their non-believer friends when that friend isn't even trying to talk about that. It's about being a witness of Christ and helping those along who are responding to the call. It's about spreading a message of love and of God, but you can't hold other people accountable for not listening.

I would hope you wouldn't be approached by strangers about your faith! To me that is too personal, ill mannered, and borderline threatening. I'm surprised you are disappointed this happened to you so little.

You might be waiting a while since apparently you only want those who "hear what you want them to hear" and "see what you want them to see", so everyone else is wrong.

Good luck with that.

Useful. And Who would know better than our Lord Himself, as He taught, Mark chapter 4 -- that we are only to spread seed, God's word is the seed, and then are not the ones that cause the seed to grow, and even more, that it grows in a time we do not know, in a way we do not know.

[1Jo 4:6 NLT] 6 But we belong to God, and those who know God listen to us. If they do not belong to God, they do not listen to us. That is how we know if someone has the Spirit of truth or the spirit of deception.

Great post! I'm looking forward to talking to you. I prefer discussion rather than the unbrotherly approach that most employ, here. Let's me an example of how Holy Bothers and Sisters, who share the Same Spirit, can relate and learn from each other. So important! This is one way that we can tell if we have God's Spirit within us....do we love the brethren.

Super busy, but yes, I'd love to answer your question, share my experiences and move from there. Good to see that someone here has their eyes and ears open. So far, one seems to be a true Christian, for anyone who defends this insane problem is most certainly involved in it. I hope to respond by late this evening.

So there isn't one Christian that isn't blind to this problem?

There isn't one that has any strength?

I believe a large part of the problem is that believers have never been taught HOW to witness to people. So, perhaps instead of complaining about it and criticizing others who don't see it exactly the same as you do, you should actually DO something about it, otherwise how are you any different?

For example, at my church I've trained dozens of folks on what real evangelism is and what it is not. Many have this picture of weird sidewalk doomsday preachers, but I teach them how to witness by embracing their own God given gifts and strengths, starting from a place of love and respect for others, and an awareness of the situation. Then, rather than complain that it isn't happening, we go out in teams and actually do it. Imagine that! We've witnessed to hundreds this way, some have given their lives to the Lord, many have been prayed for, but everyone we've talked to has at least seen the love of Christ demonstrated.

Why Don't Christian's Witness About Jesus?

We do.
But not all of us go door to door, or use a direct, in-your-face approach.

I"m 51 and I'd say that I've had two different moments in my life when I was approached about Christ. Once was by a couple that knocked on my door from an actual Christian Church.

1. How is this even possible?

See above.
Not every Christian will go up to random people in the street and ask if they are saved, or go door to door. That doesn't mean they/we aren't witnessing and "ready to answer for the hope that is in us" in our everyday lives.

2. If this Church (the body of Christ) has abandoned "obedience" to such lengths, is there any reason to think that Jesus won't be returning soon?

1. Just because people don't do evangelism the way you think it should be done, does not mean that they don't do it or are being disobedient.
2. No.

"Confidence Is From The Lord" is a false teaching folks.

Meaning what?

This evil statement along with, "Just Pray About It" are two of the most destructive false teachings rampant in the "Church" today.

Praying about something is sensible advice, and should be standard practice for every Christian.
Reminding someone to pray about something - instead of dashing straight in without the Lord's guidance or protection - is wise.
Calling someone to prayer can never be a false teaching.

God, forgive them all, for they know not what they do. But as for our false teachers whom have led us astray....may that Goliath millstone be tightly noosed and may you do to them as you did to the generation of Benjamites who raped honorable women to death!

Don't know what you mean by this, but it doesn't exactly sound like an example of loving as Christ loved us. The opposite, in fact; if you truly are asking God to rape and kill people; that is sick.
What makes you think a God who IS love will listen to such a request?
