Hi Family,

How do you identify those who are practicing witchcraft IN the church?

What do you do once you have identified said witchcraft?

How do you address the person?

What responsibility does the pastor have to the congregation to address the issue?

How do you believe witchcraft can impact the church?

~Natsumi Lam~

Hello,

That shouldn't be our primary focus, but to focus on God. We are given the gift of discernment to recognize those who are with us and those who are not: 1 John 2:19. That being said, if you do come across someone like you described or anyone that doesn't know Christ, test their spirit as you have done so in this thread: 1 John 4:1-6

I should also add that in 1 Samuel where Sol goes to see a Medium, the word divination is the same meaning as "witch craft", it's just a different term. Those who are Christians will not reject the Word of God.

Are you sure she wasn't a Satanist?

I do know for a fact Satanists exist and are not merely an urban legend, but they are mostly disturbed youth, often angry and using the symbols of pop Christianity. Wicca is another religion altogether, and should not be confused.

Hello,

That shouldn't be our primary focus, but to focus on God.

It should not be the primary focus but it needs to be a focus. Ignoring the Enemy does not make the Enemy stop killing, stealing and destroying. It does not stop the Enemy from being a roaring lion waiting to devour. Not that the witch is the Enemy per se but rather it is the Enemy that works through them. We need to take authority in Jesus name and address the issue.

Illusions, Jason. Tricks are for

Arrested Development references aside, she does high magic using incantations and ceremonial magic due to a mix natural abilities and academic pursuits in alchemy, and not as a means of practicing self or higher power/spiritual understanding. That makes her a magician, wizard, or sorceress.

If she did low magic or nature-based crafting with an end goal of religious understanding or enlightenment for self or the community, then she’d be a witch.

She has natural gifts that she enhances with alchemy and ceremonial study of magic and no religious or spiritual structure, making her a magician, wizard, or sorceress.

It’s basically the difference between a doctor and an herbalist.

I mean, say what you want about the tenants of witchcraft, at least there’s an ethos.

No. All dark arts (like incantations, etc.) outside of God's working is witchcraft or sorcery.

Well, she was born with those talents so saying this fictional character’s fictional powers in this fictional universe make her a user of the dark arts is the same as saying Superman's powers came from the dark arts, as opposed to the reality... That he’s a fictional character from a fictional planet with fictional powers born with fictional powers he has no control over being born with.

Though I guess technically he was born with no special powers and only has them because he’s on Earth because his planet doesn’t exist anymore.

There is no reason for Christians to believe witches are real, and it is quite dangerous to do so.

You cannot be serious. That's like saying oxygen doesn't exist. You can see practicing witchcraft via by videos and stuff on the internet if you really want to. We are not living in the 80's anymore. We have this thing called the internet. You can research it, but I would not advise it because we as Christians should focus on that which is good and not that which is evil. We are to avoid evil communications. So how can you know for sure it is real? Ask God.

Okay. I was not born yesterday. I have watched Young Justice and read the comics (When I used to be into secular entertainment in the past). Her character uses magical abilities and she casts spells.... so yeah... she is a witch or sorceress. You can Google her list of spells if you like, but I would not advise looking to deep at the list because we should not fill our minds with evil things.

Just to be clear (and I think you know this because you liked my earlier post) I'm not confusing them. I am very much aware that Wicca and Satanism are two different religions. That is why I asked the question that I did, because my understanding of Wicca is that the first rule of the religion is "first, do no harm."

But to further elaborate, if one believes one can be born with innate abilities then it would make no sense to say one is of Satan (magic or mindfulness or ESP or ESPN or whatever you want to call it) and the other one is fine (say, playing the piano).

Bob Ross will always be a better painter than me because he has a natural gift I don’t, not because the devil said “and I shall give him the power to make happy little trees.” Same with magic or psychic powers or whatever phenomena was discussed on X-Files this week.

At the hospital they used an oximeter on my dad, the thing they put on your finger to see how much oxygen is in your blood, like seriously that has got to be witchcraft.

Again, she uses spells. Spells are magic. It says she has magic abilities. Hello?

The internet contains a great deal of nonsense that is completely absent of socially-responsible curation. So beware.

Okay. I was not born yesterday. I have watched Young Justice and read the comics (When I used to be into secular entertainment in the past).

Why do you keep mentioning that like you’re the only person who has ever seen the show or read the comics?

Her character uses magical abilities and she casts spells.... so yeah... she is a witch or sorceress.

Again, witches do low magic, magicians or sorceresses do high magic. If we are applying real-life hierarchy to fictional characters, we should at least not be arbitrary.

You can Google her list of spells if you like, but I would not advise looking to deep at the list because we should not fill our minds with evil things.

Granted I’m not the most creative person on earth, but saying words backwards isn’t exactly the height of creative spell casting or the portal to Satanic evil. I’d be more worried about accidentally manifesting a demon whole mispronouncing IKEA furniture names than saying “pots.”

I do not. I believe how one uses them could potentially be evil, but simply having them does not make one evil.

What you just said is basically “chocolate chip cookies are cookies, all cookies are chocolate chip.” Spells are magic, but not all spells are high magic, not all magic is spells, and ones natural abilities may or may not be magic but almost certainly isn’t spells.

I would agree that psychic hotlines are evil, they’re a total SCAM!!
I agree. At the same time, I do believe that some people are intuitive and can sense things. A number of years ago I was talking with a friend who is intuitive. She suddenly said, "get to a doctor now." When I asked why she said "I just have a bad feeling." I was in the doctor's office the next day. He had an ambulance take me to the hospital (he said I was too far gone to drive myself) where I spent the next week in ICU. I was down to under 20% heart function. When I later asked her what happened, she said that she just had a feeling that I was dying. She has had similar incidents with other people. Yes, she is a Christian and no, she does not do psychic readings.

My complaint is they’re expensive and they use the Forer Effect to simulate psychic powers, making them overpriced. Any student in high school taking a basic science class can do it, as can most fortune cookies.
