  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

What's the essential difference between the two? :p

One will suck you dry, the other one is really creepy.

(there's probably a better way of doing a comparison, but that was the best I could come up with off the top of my head)

My love of comics has finally been justified. A colleague needed to find pictures of Marvel heroes for a presentation, and fortunately for her I was on hand to suggest who to look for (particularly when it came to female characters) and identifying who she had found.

Does anyone else here think their life sometimes reflects just a wash of what's been in pop-culture, media, and past trends? Right now I feel like the dude off 'Cable Guy' where every response is just a reference to something I've seen in a movie or heard in a song. :|

OMM: It's the first day of Lent.

It also was nine years ago today when I joined the first website where I talked in forums and shared art. This was the first drawing I shared there:

I remember that shortly after joining, I commented on this really awesome drawing someone made of Sonic characters and said something like "I could NEVER draw like that." The artist told me something like "I think you could draw like I do with practice". While I'm not sure if I'm quite at that level, I've certainly come a long way.

I think you're a really talented artist. Don't sell yourself short, your work is great. :)

:flatt: Thank you! Don't worry, I wasn't looking down on my talent there, was just not sure if I can draw like that person did. It was 3-D style art and I usually draw 2-D style.

Studying the universe is such a soul destroying practise when you dive DEEP. The time and the scale of it is SO incomprehensibly infinite that we really are a complete insignificance - even to planet earth. I mean, humans have only existed for a few thousand years; whereas Earth is billions of years old, and will live on for billions of years more after we've gone.

In the dating game, birds of a feather flock together. At least that's how it looks from my perspective. The kind of person somebody falls for usually reflects the kind of person that they are themselves. Even if they try to keep that side of themselves hidden. As such, couples neither deserve our envy nor our pity. There are exceptions, of course, but exceptions are called exceptional for a reason. Indifference is the correct attitude to take toward the relationship status of most people. Wish them well, sure, but don't lose sight of what's important to you.

I think this dynamic is even true of so-called hypergamy. Ask rich men if they enjoy dating women who are into them for the money, for instance. Most will say that they're not, and even downplay their wealth as they hold out for more appropriate matches. Some materialistic guys will flaunt it, of course, and not care that they wind up with materialistic women. As I mentioned earlier... birds of a feather. C'est la vie.

What I'm saying here may fly in the face of internet pop psychology, but I'd like to think that I'm not merely being contrarian. Reality is more nuanced than what sensationalistic headlines and soundbites would have us believe.

How is that soul destroying? I think it's amazing. Both that the universe is so vast and the fact that it is so sophisticated on molecular and subatomic level.

What ever happened to Messy? I think she got banned but i liked her.

Why would she have gotten banned? I don't remember her being unpleasant in any way, certainly not contentious.

as a Christian, i found it exhilaratingly astounding. just to think..the Creator made all of it. and the Psalmist said 'what is man that you are mindful of him'.
we are the pinnacle of His creation. idk. it makes me happy
