Did you get that from Daughter's of the Confederacy High School History book?

There was no republican party until the presidential election of 1860. Republican Abraham Lincoln defeated Southern Democrat John C. Breckinridge, becoming the first ever Republican President.

After Reconstruction ended in the late 1870s they (*Democrats) controlled all the Southern states and disenfranchised blacks (who were Republicans). The "Solid South" gave nearly all its electoral votes to Democrats in presidential elections.

* added for contextual content. Only text by astreic is my edit.
United States presidential election of 1860 | United States government

At the time of Ulysses S. Grant's election to the presidency, white supremacists were conducting a reign of terror throughout the South. In outright defiance of the Republican-led federal government, Southern Democrats formed organizations that violently intimidated blacks and Republicans who tried to win political power.

The most prominent of these, the Ku Klux Klan, was formed in Pulaski, Tennessee, in 1865. Originally founded as a social club for former Confederate soldiers, the Klan evolved into a terrorist organization. It would be responsible for thousands of deaths, and would help to weaken the political power of Southern blacks and Republicans. Racist activity in the South often took the form of riots that targeted blacks and Republicans.

This coming from a Trump supporter. Precious!

And it is meant as intended. To judge a 'pro' just look at the 'counter'. You can see what someone stands for by seeing what they oppose.

You need to finish the story.

The Southern Democrats started to split from the Democratic Party over Hubert Humphrey's civil rights proposals. They formed a new party - the States' Rights Democratic Party (Dixiecrats). Over the years, many of them switched allegiances to the Republican Party and this was solidified under Nixon's "Southern Strategy." So, the Southern Democrats left the Democratic Party and joined the Republican Party when the Dems started to support civil rights. Republicans, especially under Nixon, were more than happy to court their racist views in order to garner votes.

The move of Southern states from solidly Democrat to solidly Republican began to take place. In that environment, the Dixiecrats and the “Southern Strategy" was born.

Their campaign slogan was “Segregation Forever!"

Meeting in Birmingham, Alabama, the Dixiecrats nominated South Carolina governor Strom Thurmond as their presidential candidate, and Mississippi governor Field J. Wright, as their vice-presidential nominee. The party platform represented the openly racist views of most white southerners of the time. It opposed abolition of the poll tax while endorsing segregation and the "racial integrity" of each race.

Welcome to What about 50 years ago?

No the conversation line began here:
Trump gives 2 hour speech at CPAC

However, truth is Democrats, not Republicans are the progenitors of all racial angst in America. They even came up with the "southern strategy" to infiltrate the republican party to make it more amiable towards segregation; creating what we now call RINO's.

Which is a nice summary of Whatabout 50 years ago. Or are “Real Republicans” actually what we now call Democrats?

And if Nancy and Chuck had Trump dead to rights committing a felony there would be no hesitation.
The GOP still controls the Senate. You really need a game program.

You being wrong about the Southern Democrats, the Southern Strategy, and the modern Republican Party is not dependent on you support of Trump.

The Democrats were the early supporters of racism but this changes decades ago when the Dixiecrats jumped ship and joined the Republicans. The Southern Strategy was orchestrated by the Nixon campaign, not the Dems.

Of course you do. I support Trump, everything I say must be wrong.

There's nothing incorrect in that post. However, it only covers 1860 to the late 1870s. We're talking about a period of time 100 years later, which your post does not address.

Thank you. That is because I was answering one person, not championing a cause.

If people would just click the links to follow the conversation instead of rebutting everything.

Except that the original post in that discussion specifically talked about the procession of Democrats -> Dixiecrats -> Republicans, which was then called a lie. That post was then (mockingly) referred to as a product of the "Daughters of the Confederacy history textbook," to which you made your reply about the Reconstruction period. So perhaps it might behoove you to follow your own advice.

Actually the Republican party formed from the division of the Whigs over slavery in 1854.

Correct. I stated my post wrong.
1854
Republican Party founded
  • Wisconsin, former members of the Whig Party meet to establish a new party to oppose the spread of slavery into the western territories. The Whig Party, which was formed in 1834 to oppose the “tyranny” of President Andrew Jackson, had shown itself incapable of coping with the national crisis over slavery.

With the successful introduction of the Kansas-Nebraska Bill of 1854, an act that dissolved the terms of the Missouri Compromise and allowed slave or free status to be decided in the territories by popular sovereignty, the Whigs disintegrated. By February 1854, anti-slavery Whigs had begun meeting in the upper midwestern states to discuss the formation of a new party. One such meeting, in Wisconsin on March 20, 1854, is generally remembered as the founding meeting of the Republican Party.

Let me get this straight... Cohen is the evidence? A known, and self admitted perjurer?

Oh brother! Not this asinine talking point. He perjured himself at the behest of Trump. And if he's such an awful person and liar, why was he a Trump friend and fixer for 20 years?

Yes. Paper trails. Documentation. Where's the money trail? And this is the point. When defendants turn evidence they provide actual working information or items. All we have is another accusation with no proof.

In order to find this, would you support an in-depth investigation into Donald's finances?

and if so, would you agree that if such an investigation turned up evidence of crimes not related to Russia, justice should be done?
