Hi Family,

This might be in another thread but I am having trouble finding it.

Where in the Bible does it say:

I accept Jesus and when I die I go to Heaven.

I dont accept Jesus and when I die I go to hell.

~Natsumi Lam~

When one dies (earthly death) they go to the grave ... saved or not.

The saved are resurrected when Jesus returns, that is the first resurrection.

Later is the 2nd resurrection (the lost) and are ultimately totally destroyed.

Let's focus on the saved - the first resurrection from the grave:

1 Thessalonians

The Return of the Lord

13Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. 14For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.

15By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. 17After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord.

18Therefore encourage one another with these words.

asleep in the grave ... a dormant unconscious state - until the 1st resurrection

State of the Dead

Psalm 90:3-6

You turn man back into dust And say, "Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your sight Are like yesterday when it passes by, Or as a watch in the night. You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; In the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew.

Job 7:21

"Why then do You not pardon my transgression And take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust; And You will seek me, but I will not be."

Job 14:10-12

"But man dies and lies prostrate Man expires, and where is he? "As water evaporates from the sea, And a river becomes parched and dried up, So man lies down and does not rise. Until the heavens are no longer, He will not awake nor be aroused out of his sleep.

Psalm 13:3

Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; Enlighten my eyes, or I will sleep the sleep of death,

Daniel 12:2

"Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt.

Matthew 9:24

He said, "Leave; for the girl has not died, but is asleep." And they began laughing at Him.

And entering in, He said to them, "Why make a commotion and weep? The child has not died, but is asleep."

Luke 8:52-53

Now they were all weeping and lamenting for her; but He said, "Stop weeping, for she has not died, but is asleep." And they began laughing at Him, knowing that she had died.

2 Samuel 7:12

"When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom.

2 Kings 15:7

And Azariah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David, and Jotham his son became king in his place.

2 Kings 16:20

John 11:11-14

This He said, and after that He said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I go, so that I may awaken him out of sleep." The disciples then said to Him, "Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover." Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was speaking of literal sleep.

Acts 7:60

Then falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them!" Having said this, he fell asleep.

1 Corinthians 15:6

After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;

But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

Jeremiah 51:57

Well, first to address some things in your post.

Heaven, the place where we spend an eternity, is yet to come. Many misunderstand what it is, they think we enter that place as disembodied spirits somewhere beyond the clouds. Actually, we read in many places, such as 2 Peter 3:13, that Heaven is the New Earth. What precedes us entering this new earth is a resurrection of the dead of all people that has ever lived, to stand before the judgment seat of Christ when he comes back (Acts 17:31; Daniel 12:2; Revelation 20:11-15; etc). The righteous enter the kingdom of God in the new earth, the wicked enter eternal punishment in the Valley of Hinnom (Matthew 25:46; Daniel 12:2; etc), a name given to what we call "hell" in English.

When we die, we enter the presence of God, which is also called heaven, but only temporally. We are there until Christ comes back, raises us from the dead, to bring us into the next world on earth that is eternal (1 Thessalonians 4:13-17). You enter an intermediate state between death and the resurrection, depending where you stand with God.

Hell, too, is yet to come (Revelation 20:14). Yes, people do suffer body and soul there after the resurrection, away from the glory of God on the new earth, for an eternity.

How does someone enter heaven? They must have faith in the person and work of Jesus, turning themselves to him for salvation. We are by nature children of wrath, we are hostile to God and separated from him in our sins. Jesus came to suffer the punishment of God's wrath against sin on the cross, so that guilty sinners who rest their trust in him may have their sins covered in the sight of God by his blood. Without Christ, we remain in our sins; but if we come to him, resting in what he has done, we will be saved by his sacrifice in our stead. We will be reconciled to God through him. His resurrection secures this redemption, and as a result of being obedient to God in all things, he has earned that legal status of righteousness to all who are in him by faith.

Where does it say we need to believe in, trust in, put faith in Jesus to enter that eternal life in heaven? Everywhere, including John 3:16, 36; 6:40; 11:25; etc.

"Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment." - John 5:28

Hi Family,

This might be in another thread but I am having trouble finding it.

Where in the Bible does it say:

I accept Jesus and when I die I go to Heaven.

I dont accept Jesus and when I die I go to hell.

Jesus told a story of two men, one good and not not good and where they went:

Luk 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
Luk 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
Luk 16:21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
Luk 16:22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luk 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Luk 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Luk 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
Luk 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Luk 16:27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
Luk 16:28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
Luk 16:29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
Luk 16:30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
Luk 16:31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

The same is true now, except going to the good place does mean accepting Christ as he said he was the only way to the father which means going to the Father in heaven.

It seems like there is no direct verse that has heaven for the saved. Hell for the unsaved.

There's no single verse specifically saying heaven is for the saved and hell for the unsaved. But there's more verses than I know which explain life and death, also believers and non-believers. The common theme is those who believe in Christ have life after death and will be with him, after his own resurrection until his return he's with the Father, those who're non-believers won't have life after death.

1 Corinthians 15:3-4 "
3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:"

1 Corinthians 15:16-18 "
16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18 Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished."

1 Corinthians 15:20-24 "
20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. 21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. 24 Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power."

True. In fact, hell, per se, is not mentioned at all in the Old Testament.

And when we read critically in historical and cultural context, heaven is the ruling places, i'e., the temple.

Life eternal is with God. Heaven, on the other hand - you are right, the Bible doesn't say that the faithful die and go to heaven.

Why do you think that the Heaven-Hell adgenda is so heavily pushed within Christiandom?

Is if fear based control?
Somewhat. Also, Satan is a convenient excuse; one we can easily blame for our own faults.

Yes! That is story/parable is actually my largest study in the NT and why I spent time translating it and harmonizing it to Revelation.
Look up the words purple fine linen in a lexicon.

purple fine linen (NKJV)

Is the "GEHENNA" of Matt 23:33 the "LAKE OF FIRE" in Revelation? Poll thread

Matthew 23:
15 Woe to ye Scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! That ye are going about the sea and the dry/xhran <3584> to make one proselyte, and whenever he may be becoming, ye are making him a son of geennhV<1067> twofold-more of ye-selves
33 "Serpents! brood of vipers! how? ye may be fleeing from the judging of the geennhV <1067>

Lazarus and the Rich Man - Here a little, there a little - Commentary

Luke 16:

24 And he sounding said "Father Abraham! be thou merciful to-me! and send Lazarus! that he should be dipping the tip of the finger of him of water and should be cooling down the tongue of me
that I am being pained in the Flame this."
27 "Then he said, 'I beg you therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house,
28 for I have five brothers, that he may testify to them, lest they also come to this place of torment.' "

The fact that the rich man has five brothers is a vital clue to his true symbolic identity.
Judah, the progenitor of the Jews, was the son of Jacob through Leah (Gen. 29:35). He had five full-blooded brothers: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, and Zebulun (Gen. 35:23).

While the significance of this seemingly pointless detail has been neglected by scholars throughout the centuries, you can be certain that it did not escape the notice of the Pharisees and scribes to which Yeshua was speaking. They thoroughly knew their history and were extremely proud of their heritage. Yeshua wanted those self-righteous Pharisees to know exactly who he was referring to with this parable.
This detail cements the identity of the rich man as the House of Judah, the Jews!

In Matthew 23:33, Jesus brings up the word "gehenna" and tells those Jewish religious leaders they are heading there. My question is, could the gehenna in this verse be the same as the "Lake of Fire" in Revelation?
Discuss.............

Matthew 23:33
'Serpents! brood of vipers!
how may ye escape from the judgment of the gehenna?

In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, it shows the rich man burning in a flame and calling out to Abraham, with Lazarus in his bosom.
[This "COVENANTLE" parable is actually my largest study of the Bible]

Lazarus and the Rich Man - Here a little, there a little - Commentary

Afterward, speaking primarily to his disciples but with the Pharisees (and probably the crowd) still listening in, Yeshua related the parable of the unjust steward (Luke 16:1-13).
The Pharisees, who were "lovers of money" (Luke 16:14), realized that the Messiah was alluding to them with this parable and took offense. They scoffed at Yeshua. The final part of his response to the derision of the Pharisees and scribes was the parable of Lazarus and the rich man.

LUKE 16:24
24 "Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham[NC Faith/Life?]! have mercy on me! and send Lazarus[Resurrection]! that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue;
for I am[OC Law/Death?] tormented in this flame.' "

If the Pharisees and scribes understood Yeshua's prophetic parable, it must have astonished and infuriated them. How could the Jews become alienated from God while the elect Gentiles became the "seed of Abraham"?
The implication that the House of Judah and those called from the Gentile nations were to change places would have been almost impossible for the Pharisees and scribes to believe...................

In Revelation, both a people and a great City are shown with smoke burning:

Revelation 14:11
And the Smoke of the tormenting of Them is ascending into Ages to-Ages.......

It seems those ones in Matthew 23:33 and Revelation 14:1 are also part of the great Harlot in Revelation 19:3

Revelation 19:3
And a second-time they have declared "allelouia and the Smoke of Her is ascending into the Ages of the Ages".

Lazarus and the Rich Man - Here a little, there a little - Commentary

LUKE 16:23
"And being in torments<βάσανος (basanos)<931> in Hades<ᾅδης (hadēs)<86>", he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom."

In contrast to Lazarus, the rich man was buried in Hades. An understanding of the original meaning of the Greek word hades is necessary to grasp the message of the parable. Regarding the possible etymology of this word, the The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology states that hades ". . . comes from idein (to see) with the negative prefix, a-, and so would mean the invisible . . . In the LXX hades occurs more than 100 times, in the majority of instances to translate Heb. she'ol, the underworld which receives all the dead. It is the land of darkness . . ." (p. 206, vol. 2).

Most likely, hades originally meant "unseen." Later, it came to refer to the hidden state of those buried in the earth. Symbolically, this parable shows that a point would come when the House of Judah would become "unseen" by God, out of favor because of their unbelief.
There would come a time when the Jews as a whole would no longer be God's favored nation. God would harden their hearts, leading them to reject their Messiah (John 1:11).

What did Yeshua mean by saying here that the rich man was in "torments in Hades"? The key to discovering the symbolic meaning of this verse is the Greek noun basanois, translated "torments" above.According to Friberg's Analytical Lexicon of the Greek New Testament, basanois, which is a form of the noun basanos, means "strictly, a touchstone for testing the genuineness of metals by rubbing against it . . ."

The etymology of basanos found in Kittel's Theological Dictionary of the New Testament is very helpful in correctly understanding this verse:

In non-biblical Gk. [basanos] is a commercial expression, or is used in relation to government. It then acquires the meaning of the checking of calculations, which develops naturally out of the basic sense of [basanos, basanizein] . . . In the spiritual sphere it has the figur[ative] sense, which is closely related to the original concrete meaning, of a means of testing . . .

The word then undergoes a change in meaning. The original sense fades into the background. [Basanos] now comes to denote "torture" or "the rack," espec[ially] used with slaves . . . [Basanos] occurs in the sense of "torment" . . .

It seems like there is no direct verse that has heaven for the saved. Hell for the unsaved.
Isn't the final destination what matters most?

Matthew 25:41
