I know that they referenced Matthew 3:16-17 as proof text for the "practice" of worshiping the Holy Spirit with the Father & the Son for that modified Nicene creed, but it doesn't really cite the practice at all. Try as I might by search engines, I cannot find an actual verse for that practice, even though the Holy Spirit is God.

Contentions are that the Holy Spirit is God ( I agree ) and of the Triune God ( I agree ) and so we should worship Him as well. It sounds reasonable until I read these verses.

John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: 23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

Do note that John 5:22 is citing a judgment we should not play around with

Jesus did not mention the Holy Spirit at all. If He had not stated that last portion of verse 23, I would think it would be okay to honor the Holy Spirit just as long as they honor the Son, BUT because that bold and underlined statement is what Jesus has said is why I believe honoring the Holy Spirit is not the will of the father for us to do nor are we led by the Spirit to do that.

If we look at the role of the Holy Spirit we find He has a job to do through us.

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me:

The n we have this truth about what makes each of our individual witness of Jesus Christ as true.

John 8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

So let us say we as individual believers decided to worship God in our solitary private setting whereby as led by the Holy Spirit in us, what we say in honoring the Son in glorifying the Son in worship will be true as by doing so honor and glorifies God the Father.

So in an assembly of a body of believers, our witnesses and our worship is true because the Holy Spirit is doing the same thing thru us to do that. The Holy Spirit cannot lead believers to speak of Himself in seeking the gory of Himself in worship just as a believer will not speak of himself to seek the glory of himself in worship for that worship to be true.

Now before we consider that I am being too literal with the Word of God in application, consider my alarm when believers call for the Holy Spirit in worship to come and fall on them, and there is nothing but chaos and confusion when something responds. Even one brother in India did not believe that the Holy Spirit would do any dramatic manifestations any more and one Pentecostal calendar day, he and his church was honoring the Holy Spirit when he felt something like liquid nitrogen seeping through his skull, and he was giving an unwilling apology to the Holy Spirit for not believing He did such dramatic manifestations today as He has done back in the early church days.

#1; God wants a willing confession; not a coerced one. He did not give us a spirit of fear, but of sound mind. If the Holy Spirit could do that, no one could grieve the Holy Spirit.

#2; The sensation of receiving something is not the Holy Spirit when He is in us.

By the apostle John's line of discernment in testing the spirits 1 John 4:1 by knowing the Holy Spirit is in us 1 John 4:4 and anything outside of us or coming over us later in life as a saved believer, is the spirit of the antichrist.

So why did God allow that which is not the Holy Spirit answer in that way when that brother was honoring the Holy Spirit? Why would God allow a strong delusion to occur?

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 5:22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: 23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

Again. Do note that John 5:22 is citing a judgment we should not play around with. I believe that is why God allowed that phenomenon to happen because that is not how we are to honor the Father at all in worship.

Jesus told us how bad it will be in the last days as the way to come to God the Father will be broaden in Christian worship per Matthew 7:13-17 for why we are to narrow the way back to the Son in worship or else risk being left behind; Luke 13:24-30

Only the spirit of the antichrist would take the spotlight off of the Son in worship with their visitations and signs and wonders, but the indwelling Holy Spirit would never do that.

So that is why I believe it is an errant assumption to believe we are to practice the worship of the Holy Spirit with the Father & the Son even though we all believe the Holy Spirit is God and of the Triune God. There are other spirits in the world wherefore why God the Father has all the invitations to come to Him by the only way of the Son in living that reconciled relationship with God so that sinners can turn away from their spirit worships and stay away from those spirits by only coming to the Son in worship in coming to God the Father by.

Posts like this make me pray even more for Christians to obtain a proper understanding of our beautiful history.

The Trinity was a hotly contested doctrine in the Early Church, and the subject of many heresies. It was eventually decided at the Council of Nicea (325); though widely held belief that the Trinity was a true doctrine, many powerful leaders of the Church taught against it, with thoroughly Biblical evidence, as you present. It was definitively decided that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were all 1 being.

Further reading: The Council of Nicea and the Doctrine of the Trinity

So many of these controversial issues in Christianity have been settled by councils of Church leaders far better educated than any of us; the Trinity, faith and works in salvation, the duality of Jesus, the canon of the books in the Bible, and so many more matters have been settled already, if we only put aside our pride long enough to listen to the wisdom of the Church. Since the Council of Jerusalem in Acts 15, councils have been used, and are continued to be used, to settle issues within the Church.

God be with us all, and pray for everyone to be loving & gentle in our rebuke of anyone we believe is wrong.

There is no harm in asking questions and seeking the Lord's input. No one's faith can stand the test of time and challenge based on an "I told you so." Paul was convinced because of the personal experiences he had with Christ and the truths he recognized.

It isn't a question of pride at all. We are working out our salvation in fear and trembling. And I will not allow my faith to rest on someone else's words if uncertainties exist.

Well technically it's blasphemy which is not forgiven against the holy spirit: Matthew 12:31. And blasphemy is defined as:

blas·phe·my
[ˈblasfəmē]
NOUN
  1. the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk.
So regarding the Holy Spirit, worship is always just the wiser idea.

Worship :) or be condemned :( is what the bible teaches: Matthew 12:32

More like acknowledging His words and the Father's will in how He wants us to come to Him and how He specifically wants us to honor Him by as those who worship Him will do so in spirit and in truth, right?

Scripture testifies that is what the Holy Spirit is sent to do and so how can He do that except thru us and that should include worship. The Holy Spirit in us would not lead us to testify in any other way.

That does not speak against the Holy Spirit but speak against what is assumed by fellow believers down through the ages. So how can I be speaking against the Holy Spirit when He is leading me to do what He has been sent to do? To testify of the Son in seeking the glory of the Son and by Him, God the Father.

John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

Case closed.

In context of John 4th chapter, Jesus is answering the woman at the well her question about where to worship God the Father at; the mountains or in Jerusalem. Jesus is saying that the time has come and now is that believers will worship the Father anywhere in the world because our bodies become the Temple of the Holy Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 ) and so we can come to God the Father by worship by honoring the Son in worship as Jesus meant what He has said that He is the only way to come to God the father anywhere in the world in worship; in John 14:6

So God is a Spirit is referring to God's omnipresence as in now ever present in us for the believers and therefore no longer confined to a place in outside world that a believer has to go to, to worship the Father by as they can approach Him anywhere by only honoring the Son in worship.

Friend, the triune Godhead simultaneously bears record of itself. “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” (1 John 5:7).

Jesus testified of the Father who sent him, and the Father testified of the Son as the voice from heaven, saying, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” The Holy Spirit also testifies of the record God bears in his Son, yet we worship the Father and Son, why wouldn’t we worship the Spirit? The Spirit of the Lord is the same Spirit that created all things. The Genesis account of creation said the “Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

It definitely teaches us to honor the Spirit, because the Spirit is the Lord. 2 Corinthians 3:17

That verse does not teach us to honor the Spirit but John 5:23 cites that when we stop honoring the Son, we are no longer honoring the Father. That leaves out the Holy Spirit.

But to address 2 Corinthians 3:17

Where is the Spirit? Inside of us.

1 Corinthians 6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's

In that, we have liberty to worship God anywhere in the world by honoring the Son in worship.

Are you saying that the Holy Spirit isn’t God? Or that the Holy Spirit isn’t the Spirit of God the Father?

Because if so, we have a serious problem that extends beyond a misinterpretation of the Godhead.

And if not, then the same Spirit that the Father is (which Jesus clearly calls God a Spirit, capital S), is the same Holy Spirit we are to worship as part of the Godhead.

Can you explain why God would allow confusion to come when a believer is honoring the Holy Spirit in worship? I understand that this does not happen all the time , but the question remains; when the spotlight is on the Holy Spirit in worship, why does God allow strong delusions to come?

For me to answer that question n is to take Jesus at His words in John 14:6 and John 5:22-23 for why God would allow that to happen. And to avoid it is to strive ye to enter thru that straight gate; narrow the way in worship by only honoring the Son. But if you can correct me for how I am applying scripture, please feel free to do so.

Truth is important to God yes: Revelation 21:8. The Holy Spirit has fruits and gifts. for instance the Fruits are in Galatians 5:22-23. And it's been my experience that the Holy Spirit fills us with these fruits when we're on the right course. Or he puts us on the right course by filling us with these fruits.

Did the Holy Spirit tell you something? I'm not sure it's OK to share that here. You would want to discuss that with one of the Christian counsellors I think.

But sure, there's nothing wrong with testifying of Jesus, he is perfect and is part of God. But Please remember we are to love God, which is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Luke 10:27, in other words the Holy Spirit is God. They three are God.

Also the gifts 1 Corinthians 12:7-11
