Hey Naomi, didn't think you'd remember me! Long story cut short - ordained in 2011 and had a wonderful curacy, followed by a hugely challenging first incumbancy, which led to me taking a bit of a step back and am currently the chaplain of a large state CofE secondary school. Also got married 4 and a bit years ago (woohoo!) and my wife and I are slowly moving through the adoption process, which is simultaneously terrifying and wonderfully exciting.

Golly, that's a lot of life in a few lines! How are you doing? I remember you and this whole forum with immense fondness. Being part of this community was a hugely significant part of my discernment and it's so lovely to be back.

Congratulations on all those life events in such a short time. Are you still teaching as well as being a chaplain? I didn’t realise that state schools had chaplains.

I am still teaching, as well as being a church warden, and a granny.

And of course I remember you. Do you know what Timothy is up to?

An increasing number have chaplains and the CofE is really pushing it and investing in it at the moment. Ultimately, if young people aren't coming to church then the place we're going to have to meet them is in schools. It's currently not a teaching role - I focus on pastoral support, leading worship in school, and finding opportunities to explore the gospel with our students. So last year for example all our year 9 students (around 270) went through Youth Alpha over ten weeks. I keep waiting for someone to say that I'm being too 'Jesus-y' but no-one's said anything yet so I'm just going to keep going!

Gosh, it sounds like your life is pretty full! Congratulations on being a granny, if that's a new development! I don't know anything Timothy unfortunately. I'm connected to Karen, Haylea, the Beavers and Glenn (gtsec) via facebook but that's all.

That role sounds great. We fund a mission partner for our local secondary school, but I don’t think they get anywhere near Youth Alpha.

My last school was a boarding school and I was heavily involved in Chapel, which I loved.

Oh, Glenn, my old sparring partner. How I loved those days on STR.

Yikes snow! It is hot here in some places the 40's and late 30's celsius, and in the north, there are flooding rains from a monsoon. I saw on the news yesterday that artic freezing air is causing deaths in the northern hemisphere.

I pray for all who are suffering...

I assure you, I won’t be suffering if I get a snow day.

Snow days are the best. Fact.

Alas, we don't see snow in Brisbane - but it did snow once when I was living in Canberra back in the mid 80's.

Oh I'd find that hard. We don't really get much hear, but nothing beats that childish flurry of excitement whenever snow starts to fall. (Though maybe that's just because of associations with the hope growing up of having a day of school!)
