Loving and/or Respect: The Difference

What is the difference between loving someone and respecting someone?

What is the difference between loving someone and respecting someone?

My thinking would be that respecting someone is related to what they have accomplished. Loving someone is related to who they are in relationship to you. For example the father loved the prodigal son but certainly did not respect what he had done, still because of his love he restored him in his relationship. Much like our Father does with us when we turn our back on Him and sin.

We are supposed to do what is best for everyone, and let them know we are required to do what is best for them.

Since "God is no respecter of persons" , never biased or prejudicial, so also
we are to be no respecter of person, never biased nor prejudiced in thought , words or actions.

i.e. always do as the Father in heaved directs, all the time, for everyone.

It depends on what kind of respect we're talking about.

If someone says "I like apples" and you say "I think apples are gross", you can both respect each other's opinions and love the other person.

If someone says "I'm gay and also a Christian" then the loving thing to do would be to not respect that and instead gently, with love, kindness, and grace, point out how that isn't right.

Love is not allowing someone to live in blatant sin. Respect is often a synonym for ignoring the problem on the grounds of not wanting to upset someone.

I think part of it is that love is freely given, respect is earned.

Love and respect are the same thing. You can't have one without the other.
A problem is when we think of LOVE in equality with AFFECTION. When we do that, things get all messed up.
