I read an article that said he slammed his fist on the table too before he walked out.
If true a proper response.

When one side comes to a negotiation without even considering the other side’s view it’s called an ultimatum.

Well I'm not surprised, Trump has made his position clear as have the Democrats, really nothing to talk about. The Senate has always been the adults in the room for this kind of a log jam but they aren't really doing much, which has been the problem for two years now. They have to go around Trump, or by some means offer the Democrats something, compromise and consensus is the only way out of this. My personal opinion, the first one to reach across the isle wins.

That would comprise both sides, it would seem. Trump has never considered the Democrat's position.

I got an email from my Senator (Alexander R-TN) on Monday.
His view:
    • Go small: Give the president the $1.6 billion he asked for in this year’s budget request, which the bipartisan Senate Appropriations Committee approved. Provide an additional $1 billion to improve border security at ports of entry, which everyone concedes is needed.
    • Go bigger: Pass the bill that 54 senators voted for last February, which combined a solution for children brought to the United States illegally (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA) and $25 billion in appropriated funding for border security over 10 years. The bill failed only because of last-minute White House opposition.
    • Go really big: Begin the new Congress by creating a legal immigration system that secures our borders and defines legal status for those already here. In 2013, 68 senators — including all 54 Democrats — voted for such a bill, but the House refused to take it up. That bill included more than $40 billion and many other provisions to secure our borders.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you've read any of my comments on this Trump made crisis; I've said that this last option would be the preferred route. A new bill should be submitted by the Democrats in the House, containing the exact language of the bill passed in the Senate in 2013. Then both sides can put up or shut up.

Something like this is going to have to happen. Repeated calls by democrats and republicans for Trump to start acting like an adult, have failed. The president has convinced himself that the democrats care more about the people he's hurting than he does.

Which is almost certainly true. But there's a good reason why police don't give in to those who have taken hostages.

Not correct. Trump has considered and even agreed to the DACA provisions.

The last offer last year he accepted all 1.8 million of the Dreamers (Dem counter proposal) if they expanded on GOP immigration reforms. He did this so the bill would pass the Senate.

The democrats have already offered a $1.3 billion compromise.
And Trump offered all DACA but with expanded immigration reforms.

So I’m not seeing why the Democrats who would get full DACA from Trump and a political victory would think 20% of what Trump is asking for works in negotiations. Remember Trump has a two factions to negotiate with. The Democrats and the GOP senate. If the immigration reforms the GOP senate wants as a result of amnesty for DACA are not met the deal dies. That’s where the deal broke off in the Spring of last year.

These are reforms that even if the Democrats agree to and are signed into law the House can whittle away in future budget negotiations. They the Democrats are not thinking strategically. I think Trump knows this.

When? He turned down the deal that Democrats agreed to 20 billion for border security because of DACA. The only DACA plan which he supports is his own, not one the Dems can live with.

You mean the one he accepted and then rejected because far right Republicans screamed against it.

The iron was hot to strike last year about this time.

Trump Appears to Endorse Path to Citizenship for Millions of Immigrants

Trump has always been open to DACA along with border security and immigration reforms.

If they are not willing to negotiate then there is no reason to waste anyone's time with useless talk. But if we are honest about what happened in that meeting both sides have different views of what happened. To say one thing happened instead of the other is mere gossip.

Here is a different account from someone who was there:

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy characterized the meeting differently, saying that Mr. Trump handed out candy to attendees before it began. He also denied that Mr. Trump slammed anything before leaving the meeting.

"Bye-bye": Trump walks out of meeting with congressional leaders - CBS News

"then a few minutes later he sort of slammed the table and when leader Pelosi didn’t agree with the wall he just walked out and said, ‘we have nothing to discuss." Schumer

Isn't that what Trump is presenting to the Democrats--an ultimatum?
