Trump walks out of shutdown meeting with top Democrats, calling it 'total waste of time' – live

Chuck Schumer told reporters president slammed the table and walked out as Trump backs up his account, saying: ‘I said bye-bye’

I'm sure if there's a dent in the table from him slamming it, it'll be "the democrats' fault for making him so mad he had to slam the table"

Nice to see Chuck and Don can agree on something anyway. They both agree Don left. Small steps.

More childish behaviour

...yep, childish is an understatement.

And in a way, an insult to children. While children initially act that way, I'm pretty sure that by age 9-10, they get a firm grasp on the reality that they're not always going to get their way on everything all the time, and know better than to act out by slamming things when they don't.

You know how much credibility I lose if I schedule a meeting at work...include a long list of mandatory attendees? Say, "if you do not attend, that is your fault you don't get to be a part of the decision making." Meeting happens, they all show up...and then I walk out of my meeting.

I would have no future at that workplace.

If Don thought his speech would soften up the Dems, he was mistaken. He just repeated all the lies and half truths he has been saying all along. The facts speak otherwise.

The Dems are still in a strong place. He needs to be more flexible and give a few carrots.

With his babyish little hands, I'm sure pounding on the table sounded like a penny dropping or somehing.

In any case, he and his party own this shutdown wholesale. They can explain to all of those airport security agents why an unnecessary wall is more important than their paychecks.

The sad thing is that many of his supporters will interpret this as strength.

He's a bully. He abused his power in the past to sexually assault women, now he's abusing his power to get his own way.

More evidence of his narcisism. "It was a total waste of time".
ie. If the other party doesn't capitulate, there is nothing to be gained.

Angry 9 year old language. Though I only say that based on that EXACT comment coming from my 9 year old in an argument.

That's the kind of arrogance you don't want as a leader, an likely why he's had a number of businesses fail over the past 30 years.

"Being smart enough to know what you don't know" is a virtue that he doesn't seem to possess.

Of course, his followers seem to be cheering him on (which I think is part of the problem...he's found a group of people who basically worship him, and he wants to keep them happy)

When the cold, hard, irrefutable facts say one thing, and he says another...and his followers respond to that by claiming "fact checking websites have liberal bias...I'm sticking with Donald!", it's quite telling.

The sad thing is that many of his supporters will interpret this as strength.

They already are...or they're blaming democrats.

It's weird how they misinterpret things...even things he's directly said.

Take this for example:

Him, in plain English, on video, saying "If we don't get what we want, I'll shut down the government...and I am proud to shut down the government"

Yet, when you blame him for it, his supporters get agitated and try to claim it's the democrats' fault and that Trump didn't want to do it

So, if Trump said he was going to shut it down if he didn't get what he wants, and said he's proud to shut it down. Does that mean Trump is lying about himself since they clearly believe it's the democrats fault?

If it's the democrats' fault, then that means he's lying about himself in a negative way. If he's lying about himself, do his loyalists have to oppose Trump in order to defend Trump? Or is it a case where he's a man of his word, but that would mean the shutdown is his fault??

It's an ideological conundrum that I'm going to start referring to as "Schrodinger's Trump Supporter"

In the meantime, Donny is welcome to explain to federal workers why an unnecessary wall - one that border patrol doesn't even want - is more important than their livelihoods.

That should be a popcorn worthy moment. Can't wait to hear a man who received a "small loan" of a million dollars from daddy explain to strapped TSA agents that they'll have to go without a paycheck for a while over "steel slats".
